The Wall Street Journal is citing the Mail on Sunday story that said Waltz would play Blofeld. The Journal hasn't done any of its own reporting. The Journal story is also from two days ago.

True...the WSJ is the second-hand source on this. Thank you for the clarification. Regardless, it appears there will be a presser next week.
  • Does someone remember any film press conference happening, with a national newspaper writing a few days before : "Don't believe what they'll say,
    is true !" ?

A paper whose topic is about the producers planning to bluff during the press conference is not common at all, IMO. And there are no way to deal with it I'm afraid, once you're called a liar in advance...

Is MI6 going to do a post about this, re: no press conference?

so when you combine all that, with all the media rumor firestorm that has been going on, i don't want to sit through 5 minutes of "no comment." responses..

As I wrote more than once earlier today, they could easily talk about Bond 24 for hours without revealing anything about the plot if they really wanted to. Why can't they talk about the development of the script (Logan leaving, then them hiring Purwis and Wade again), the story behind Mendes declining and then accepting the job, the casting process etc?

But why would they? Only people on here are bothered about such trivialities, press just want gossip and I could understand Mendes wanting to flip them the bird. I'd rather they cracked on with production than bored us all with the minutiae of script development. That comes later.

Of course, last time out, they denied Whishaw was Q, Eve was Moneypenny and John Logan had been hired to write Bond 24 and Bond 25.

When it´s time to shoot, shoot don´t talk.

I´d be glad if they didn´t hold any press conference. Press conferences are justified in the 80s before the internet and when a new Bond actor is introduced.

If there is a modicum of truth to the rumors concerning, I can understand why they don't want a press conference. And even if the rumors are groundless, this would be the only topic in the press conference.
But there would also be the innundation of fawning questions.
How wonderful is it to work with DC? How great a director is Mendes? Cue each actor to take their turn lathering Mendes with praise. Like watching dvd bonus features, but on roids and unedited.
Babs will chime in with her usual, how much they respect Fleming spiel.
Meanwhile, MGW says next to nothing, even though he probably has plenty to say. Alas, he can no longer compete with all the noise going on around him.
Each actor talks about how wonderul it is to have the opportunity to work with every other actor and of course the director.
Reporters munch on free finger foods and greedily grab as much free swag as they can get their mitts on.
Lea will tell us how she is not your typical Bond-girl, but can't say any more. Yawn.
Baustista will be coached ahead of time on the great Bond henchmen of yore. Yawn.

I don't think we are missing much.
In the meantime, I am looking forward to some great photos of Lea and others, and lots of spoiler news coming from the filming.

....mind you all of the nonsense described above can be entertaining in a superficial way. It can be fun, but it may not be worth the hassle for Eon, but rather be a cost-benefit analysis fail.

And let's not forget the rest: Is Blofeld in it? So you say Blofeld is not in it, but then again you said Eve was not Moneypenny so... is Blofeld in it? Okay, so does Waltz's character have a scar, a shaved head or something? Not that I am wondering if he plays Blofeld or anything. How about a cat? Are cats featured in any way in the movie?

I don't care if it's a presser or a photo-op or whatever...I just want a title and to see if there is another female lead, aside from Lea Sedoux, who comes across as more of a villain. She could, conceivably, end up in a fight scene with Naomie Harris's Moneypenny--rumors swirled that she'd have more of a role in this one. We shall see.

    oh well in that case...

either Babs or Michael: "We're not going to go into details about what did or didn't happen in regards to who worked on the script. John, Niel and Robert worked really hard to deliver a terrific story, and we are proud of the script we have right now."

I just simply don't understand why some people complain about other commenters taking Bond 24 too seriously or leaving too many comments. I could not care less about Dr. Who but I'm not going to post a comment like "It's only a TV show, people" in the Dr. Who thread...

    Cue the lead actress:

"I was attracted to the role because she really seems more like a Bond woman and not a Bond girl. More like Bond's equal."

The producers are useless when talking to the press. That's why I would politely ask them not to attend the press conference.

With no disrespect to @Marketto who is regarded to be a respected and trusted member here, I think some caution should be taken towards the info he gave us, as the fact is we don't have any other source, link or confirmation to corroborate the info he's shared. Again, this isn't to discredit him at all, far from but I think those clearly upset by this news should calm themselves and wait. Personally, I think a PC Isn't necessary but at the same time we need to remember that there ' s enough evidence that production is shaping up nicely and that there not being a PR for now, although coming from @Marketto is a RUMOUR.

Imagine if you will that we're all on a bus journey, making our way to a fantastic holiday some distance away. You sometimes come across as the kid who constantly says, "Are we there yet, why aren't we there yet? But, last time we went it was quicker than this. When will we be there?!" It can get tedious.

For others, who've taken the trip many times, they enjoy the view and observe the morphing landscape with each new journey.

This is exactly why there should have been several Bond 24 news related topics from the beginning instead of just one.

But I do suspect Eon and Mendes were a bit burnt by all the "spoilers" when they were in pre-production on SF and are being very, very cautious this time.
Guess that means no clapperboard-thread this time. ;-)

I am completely calm. Being calm and talking about things in detail are not mutually exclusive. And when I wrote my initial comments about being worried of the movie being possibly delayed or maybe even abandoned, I was obviously not being 100% serious. There is no chance in hell they would completely abandon Bond 24 with pre-production nearly finished, sets build in Austria and preparations undarway in Morocco. Anyway, I know that Germans are always very serious so I understand you not completely understanding my tongue-in-cheek comments.

I even posted this photo: http://a.mytrend.it/inte/2014/10/544515/o.258942.jpg How is it not obvious that I was at least partially joking?

I just want to say I really do trust @Marketto with this. He does not have to reveal his source; he has proved his trustworthiness to us over the years. So okay, no press conference. I am totally fine with that. I appreciate them (EON, Mendes, the powers that be) keeping a tight lid on things this time around. It does keep it fresher.

I'd love to know the title and composer. And rest of the cast. But I'm being patient. Press conference per se is far from necessary, for me anyway. Photocall at least is something nice to look forward to.
