Plans to film a scene around the Quattro Fontane (or Four Fountains), in Rome, have been dashed by the city's cultural heritage officials. Federica Galloni, a cultural heritage official, told ll Messagero newspaper, "We have asked the producers not to film there but instead to create the sequence with special effects in post-production. At the moment the scene has been suspended, and we're waiting for the producers to tell us how they intend to resolve the problem."

    The FULL article.

I hope the producers get to film it at the location. I think Barbara Broccoli is very hard to negotiate with, if she wants something she's going to get it

I'm quite happy with them recreating the scene with SFX or going for an alternative, I love James Bond but not enough for it to be responsible for damaging a work of art.

I do hope you aren't saying you hope they get their right to film just for the sake of the film with no thought for the cultural significance of this historical monument.
I'm sure EON understands why this has been declined and will respect their decision.

Thousands of cars pass in that cross every day. I don't see how Bond could damage the statues.

It's possible that they are doing this because the statues have just been restored.
I passed in the last days in Via Quattro Fontane. But really, I don't see how a film could damage them. It's way easier that a normal driver will damage them.
But I think that at the end they can find a solution, there or in a more stunning location to shoot. There is plenty of them in this city

If permission hasn't been granted then people should move onto an alternative. I imagine they'll be doing more than just having cars pass by, it's only one sequence in the film it's not going to ruin it.

As I said the decision should be respected, they've already held back on the fire arms issue for it not hamper the filming, not letting them film by a work of art for fears of damage is no big deal, unless of course you are that single minded that all you are thinking about is a film and nothing else.

Now even town authorities say "why don't you use VFX ?". Wow. Beware, officials, a poorly paid VFX artist may add dog excrements in your streets.

They filmed at the Ice Q restaurant which is located on the summit of the mountain at 3000m high. It was closed for the public. So, no photos today i'm afraid.

Being the Google Earth maniac that I am, I found the location, which used to be an observation deck and cafe. IceQ was completed just a little over a year ago. It's incredible looking.

Oh this place truly looks like it belongs in a Bond film!

Hey, I just noticed: there are live cams (4 of 5) on that website of the immediate area. :)
Oh and on the top bar at the right, you can change languages from English to German or Dutch or one other one, I don't know what it is.

Here's a cool far distance aerial view of the Ice Q. It looks like a villain's base.

I basically searched the mountain peaks for lifts. I stumbled upon the correct one while checking pictures, many of which featured the "cross" that is at the top of the mountain.

    Try these coordinates: 46 56' 33.14 , 10 58' 03.33

Ok, let's debate the merits of the Burberry suit. No, seriously, I really wonder what Waltz will wear. And really hope Bautista keeps his beard.

It's so funny. Once actors, stars or whatever crew members are associated with the James Bond films, they start "living" the James Bond way of life :-P. I recall Pierce had his own Aston Martin. So does Daniel Craig. And now.....Craig's wife is skiing like Tracy/Elektra in Austria. Isn't it beautiful :-P?
