I getting rather sick of Elba being constantly connected to the franchise. I understand this is interesting to read but seriously Elba will not be Bond, if he doesn't get it because of age
    This is the major reason
he won't get it because of all the hype
There was a lot of hype around Brosnan being Bond in the late 80s/90s, it didn't hurt his chances.
and if he does then I'll be quite disappointed. I think he's a fantastic actor, but from a few comments I've heard from him about this whole Bond thing just come across strange and kinda big-headed and don't feel like I trust him and like him enough to see him carry the most important franchise in my life.

I just don't think it'd be a good move, considering they'd be no surprise in his casting
again, I doubt many people were surprised when Brosnan was cast
and the racial thing will be addressed whether people like it or not. I truly don't care if Bond ends up black but it's the effect it'll have on media and such that'll cause controversy that doesn't need to happen.
Controversy didn't hurt Craig's films "Short" "blond" "ugly" "can't drive stick" etc etc - there was a lot of controversy after Craig was announced. Casino Royale was a success regardless.
It's like he's just going along with it all now for the attention. Not this article as such but previous articles and comments I've read.
He keeps getting asked about it, he's going to have to answer. I'm not surprised he said something, if the press keeps pushing he has to say something, just to please them and let them leave him be, if only temporarily.

Idris Elba Was Approached to Play Bond After
Daniel Craig Was “calling it quits”.

    April 1, 2015 at 3:29 pm

    Written by Joshua Nor

British Actor Idris Elba, best known for “The Wire” and BBC series “Luther” has confirmed today via his twitter account, that he was once
approached by James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson to play the secret agent a few years back. His tweet read:

“was once asked to play Bond believe it or not. It was I think 6 years ago.during a time when the producers and Dan were under pressure due to financial problems with one of the studios and the lack of success of the previous movie. I think he was calling it quits. But I declined. Luckily things worked out.Would love to do it if asked again though!”

Following veteran Bond actor Roger Moore's controversial tweet about Elba not being “English English” enough to play Bond, Elba also responded to the comment in separate tweet, calling it “a little offensive” and “not what you'd expect from a respected philanthropist” Here is the full tweet:

“I was a little surprised to hear Roger Moore's comments. They were a little offensive. They're not what you'd expect from a respected philanthropist. I still respect him as an actor. Wish him best.”

Meanwhile, current Bond actor Daniel Craig is shooting stunts for his new upcoming 007 flick, Spectre, in Mexico city. He, on the other hand, is not expected to retire from Bond until at least one more film after Spectre, although the producers of the series have described his contract to be “open ended”.

Spectre is expected to hit theatres worldwide on November 6th, 2015.

I getting rather sick of Elba being constantly connected to the franchise. I understand this is interesting to read but seriously Elba will not be Bond, if he doesn't get it because of age, he won't get it because of all the hype and if he does then I'll be quite disappointed. I've got nothing against Elba. And I have no complaints about a black Bond. I like it actually. But I agree about this. It sickens me too. It's creating a negative precedent for the Bond producers. They will now be remembered constantly about Idris Elba. And what happens if the Bond producers eventually go for another actor playing Bond after all?? For Barbara and Michael the real reason of not choosing Idris Elba could very well be that another actor was....simply better. But obviously, the media will start writing things like "Bond producers don't want a black Bond". It's absolutely sickening.....and I saw this sickening aspect coming when this particular SonyLeak went viral.

I also think it didn't help Idris Elba's chances when he started tweeting about the Bond rumours himself. He should have written like a gentleman and openly referring to Daniel Craig that HE is Bond, not Elba.

When did he tweet about the Bond rumours @Gustav_Graves?
Regardless, the whole Idris Elba controversy will die when they pick someone else to play Bond, just as the Daniel Craig controversy did about him being too short and too blond.

Isn't 007 supposed to handsome? Glad you think I've got a shot! Happy New year people

Yeah I agree, it gets old, but that's just the way the press is. They are going to relentlessly bring this subject up to try and stir the pot. The decision of the next Bond has nothing to do with race specifically. It's about getting a young(around 30), talented actor to commit to the series.
  • I remember there a being a couple of other tweets and one of them sounding quite rude, but I cannot fully remember. It may have been an interview on another site or something, but there was definitely something he said that pissed me off.

Real simple. There has never been a time in the last 10 years when Eon has been anything less than thrilled with Craig as Bond.

Very interesting buildings. I hope they're actually shooting there and not just travelling from one place to another.
I do hope that they make use of London's beautiful modern skyline. It's unfortunate in previous Bond movies that they never really explored the city beyond Vauxhall and Whitehall. Sam Mendes touched on this a little in SF and filmed in locations in the city that we haven't yet seen in Bond. London is a very diverse city with a great range of different colours/characteristics. I hope they explore more of the different parts of the city in SPECTRE, such as Canary Wharf, etc. Many new architecturally unique buildings have been built in London recently including the Shard, and “walky talkie,” that I think would look fantastic in a Bond film, especially with a combination of Hoyte Van Hotyema's cinematography.

TWINE had the Dome and the chase along the Thames, but I agree, I would love to see more of the city. There is a lot that can be exploited. I'd love to see Bond trailing a villain through Madame Tussauds - It'd be a nice not to TMWTGG.

I would have loved Idris as Bond, but I think he will be too old when Daniel leaves. And really we have a great Bond now, as many have pointed out, and that should still be the current focus. Hope all the April fools stuff has finished by now ...

I've just been confirmed by a reliable source that Daniel Craig and the principal crew (Sam Mendes, Hoyte Van Hoytema, Dennis Gassner, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli) have left Mexico on Saturday and are already in London and are now filming at Pinewod. The 2nd unit will continue filming now near Palenque, Chiapas, and the work has already begun on 1 April 2015.

Alexander Witt, director of the second unit said that they are filming the action scenes for few days in Mexico and then the 2nd unit will travel to Morocco to film establishing shots.

I assume those dots on the double's face means we're gonna get another CG face swap

There ere some complaints about the CGI-face swap that has been executed for "Skyfall". And on top of that, certain Bond fans (or non-fans) on the IMDB-forum accuse Daniel Craig to be a lame lazy Brit for this, especially compared to Tom Cruise.

But I find it completely unfair. I have been reviewing the "famous" stunt sequence that Tom Cruise did for "Rogue Nation" on the side of that airplane. But the only thing he needs to do is....hanging there. Off course with security tools, like cables, and so on.

But isn't such a sequence way easier to do then the more elaborate fighting sequence inside an aggressively swirling helicopter with open doors? Obviously, the Bond producers can not risk Daniel Craig to do such a stunt.

The CGI-face swap? I stand with my opinion about that. I prefer this option, then seeing Daniel Craig acting in front of a blue screen? One "fake face and real surroundings" is IMO not as bad as "fake surroundings and one real face". And lastly, I still think the CGI-face from the "Skyfall"-PTS motor chase was looking very realistic.

I only noticed of it, when a discussion topic was created about it.

Cruise is doing his own stunts. And he does them well. And yes, I think that it is fair that questions are being asked about Craig's physical condition, if they need a stunt double for him running through a crowd.

Completely agree but some people sprout stupidity simply because they can. It is astronomically stupid to put Craig in a dangerous situation. He's the star and he'll do what's reasonable but to have him hanging and fighting out of a swirling chopper is just insane and people complaint about this are pathetic. I respect and love Cruise as an actor and the stunts he does and he's blessed he's able to do them without sustaining serious injury but not everyone is Ton Cruise. Johnny Depp hurt his hand on the set if the new Pirates movie and tgen shut down production....over his hand! People need to put things into perspective and appreciate the jobs if stunt men and women who are trained to do the really detour stuff the lead actors can't do. Some if the most iconic moments in Bond history were performed by stunt men. The union jack ski jump and the goldeneye bungee jump come to mind.

From IMDb: Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol...

Casey O'Neil ... stunt double: Tom Cruise

Both Daniel Craig and Tom Cruise do a lot of their own stunts, but they can't do everything. They both have stunt doubles for scenes that are too dangerous, or stunts that their insurance simply wont allow them to do.

Of cause, Cruise has done some pretty amazing stunts on his own (The rock climb from M:I 2 comes to mind, but he does not do everything that you see on screen.

I agree. I don't think people could, or should, expect DC to be doing this level of stuntwork. I'm happy for stuntmen to do what they do best. However, I still dislike facial replacement in certain instances. I don't think it's always necessary. There are moments in the parkour chase where it's clear it's Ben Cooke and not DC, but the way it is shot and cut doesn't allow for the momentum to be interrupted. There's nothing too glaringly obvious to take you out of the scene. It's slightly different in SF, for me, because I find it glaringly obvious that this guy who is front and centre of the shot is not DC, but his emotionless face lacquered on to a double. It almost diminishes the overall feel of the stunt as once you spot an 'element' of cgi, you wonder what else isn't real, even if you know it is. I think this helicopter stunt may be slightly different. I'm hoping the shot distance and frantic nature of the scene will restrict the facial replacement from becoming too conspicuous. They also have the guide mask to work from. I still wonder if they may shoot a few close-ups on a rig at Pinewood.

Its no secret that Craig does a lot of his own stunts. Hell, watchmojo ranked him #8 in their Top 10 Actors Who Do Their Own Stunts video. There's some legendary names on that list (Buster Keaton, Jackie Chan) so he's in good company. Those clowns on the IMDB-forum can shove it, as far as I'm concerned.

Where I disagree with you is on how realistic the Grand Bazaar effect looked. At the time, I didn't know I was looking at a face swap per se, but I did know I was looking at some sort of CG effect. I found it to look very unnatural and distracting... and unnecessary! I don't think we needed a closeup of Bond face during that scene.
  • I guess for the helicopter sequence we are going to get some close ups of Craigs face. Would seem a bit odd not to. I guess the close ups will be done back at Pinewood on a rig with a green screen. There is only one shot in SF that I thought was a bit off and it was the close up of Craig on the bike with the backdrop in the background. Seemed a bit out of place. As if he had been shot on a rig back at Pinewood with green screen. Other than that 1 shot I thought most of the CG face replacement worked during that sequence.
