Yeah Goldman really messed up. The all time winner of lost status is Mel Gibson.

Yeah but Craig as far as I know hasn't beaten his wife up or just been a thoroughly unpleasant person which are things you can't say about Connery.

He can swear like a trooper for all I care, what kind of world do we live in when the actions of Connery are deemed fine and Craig drops an F bomb and he's not as classy as Sean?

Some of you wear blinders when it comes to Lord Connery just because he was the first.

As for Roger you'll get no complaint from he's a great ambassador for the series but I can't imagine he's whiter than white. Craig says it like he feels and he gets more respect from me for that than Connery's questionable past.

Pretty much how I feel about it, too.

That's the thing, the media are happy to report incorrect news, humiliate people, go as far as fabricating stories and even put people's lives at risk (the death of Diana caused by fleeing the media is something I will always despise them for) but Craig is one of the few people who doesn't suffer fools and is honest about his opinions and feelings and people want to maje it a big deal? Really?

Even when he's joking or being sarcastic his comments get taken out of context so it's not a big deal to him. Besides, he conducts himself better than many of his peers out there who are difficult to interview. The same people here who blindly champion the likes of Hardy seem to ignore the fact that he makes Craig look like a saint when it comes to interacting with interviewers not to mention tge last time I checked, Craig has never choked out his director.

I agree that media can be horrendous, and that Craig seems like a very decent guy, and I don't get what's the big deal about swearing, anyway.

Hardy seems like a good guy to me as well, I must have missed the interviews you're referring to - or alternatively you interpret him differently. I don't know which other actors you think are "difficult to interview" but I can imagine there are some, and I expect to come across some such people, eventually, in my interview watching/reading. I have a lot of respect for how well actors (and others) usually handle stupid, ignorant (unprofessional) or rude questions, or being specifically poked for reaction about something, and so on.

I just went and read a bit, initially to get some context to the choking out thingy you mentioned. I ended up reading some other stuff, too, that I had seen before, and was basically pissing myself laughing - again. Concerning the incident in question, I don't know the details, but from what is available didn't seem anything too serious. The wrap-up gifts and the pic and the t-shirt... just had me laughing again.

“Alejandro Choking me out ~ this is the brutality I have to suffer”

    tumblr_nmyt4upgdk1qe5f96o2_500.jpg

Tom Hardy admits he can be difficult, but basically he isn't willing to take shit, and is really lovable as well. He is also liked a lot by a lot of people he works with. And apparently the director can be veeeery difficult himself (makes good movies tho), and the movie was a ridiculously messy, shoot that went waaaaay over schedule, and presumably a lot over its budget and apparently a lot of people from the crew either quit or were fired. In fact, it's not over, yet, they're doing re-shoots now. Hardy was originally supposed to have been in Suicide Squad, but had to drop out and he's still stuck with more work on The Revenant.

Just saying that there's a context, and another party to a row, and far more is often made of on-set stuff that is the actual reality. Various stuff happens, and usually it's not that big of a deal... but will easily look a hell of a lot worse when taken out of context.

    ---

Nobody is bloody perfect, people are just human, including famous people. Where does the Craig-is-not-gentlemanly-enough stuff keep coming from? What's the point? In fact, as far as I can tell, nobody is quite acceptable to the modern internet standards - everybody famous seems to be difficult or rude (at some point to somebody). They're addicts of some sort - or at least once were, so there's always suspicion. Or they cheat on their spouses - possibly. And some even swear. Eek. Poor perfect rest of us.

I like Craig as Bond and I've read that he is a decent guy on the set, professional and friendly. But when you are paid $20m to do a film that most actors would kill to do, it is your job to be professional during the promo. I've criticized Craig earlier for when he occasionally acts up with paps, giving them the finger, snapping at fans who want a picture in public because it is unnecessary and it gets him bad press. Maybe they just said or did something to really get him angry so may he has an excuse on these occasions.

But saying unwise things to the press who were invited by EON to do these interviews is unprofessional. The swearing is irrelevant and not the issue. It is the snarky, grumpy conduct. The press invited to do these promo events are just doing their jobs. How can most of them not ask the same questions, that is typical of all these promo round table events. All actors deal with it. It's in Craig's contract to do these events and give the press the positive info and spin they need to write positive SP stories. These press reps are not paps goading him on the street. It is a real disappointment to read about his conduct. He is being a jerk, and there is no excuse for it.

Yeah, true... I can't really disagree with that.

    ---

As for Gary Oldman. I searched the original interview months ago to read the whole thing and have a context - knowing full well that just the worst sounding bits always get picked out and a lot of things look different that way. True with that piece again. I didn't agree with everything, but I also didn't have any major problems with what he was saying. There IS a lot of hypocrisy and double standards, but lo and behold somebody says that. I didn't feel like he "really messed up" (=did something horrible), and don't think he should suffer for it, either.

Exactly. An actor can ruin their career with stupid conduct or saying the wrong thing to the wrong venue. They are paid huge salaries and are very well coached on how to behave in public and what to say and what not to say. There is no excuse for stupid conduct if they want a long career. Tom Hanks, Clooney, Damon, there are many examples of smart actors who know how to deal with the press and the scrutiny. Craig is sometimes not very good at it.

Yeah but he hasn't beaten his wife up and had infamous bust ups with directors on set so I couldn't care less, Connery is a much bigger jerk in my opinion.

Though it is Connery he walks on water and can be a objectionable and nasty as he likes but us gullible Bond fans will think he sets a good example to the series.

I'm sure Craig's conduct is shaving millions off the box office as we speak, some of you make me laugh.

In this world we can show as much violence as possible but the sign of male, female genitalia or some naughty words uttered and the world is going to hell.

Craig's language has never bothered me. And I don't think he IS a jerk. But, he can act like one with the press at times in way's that are just not smart.

Did anyone see the interview where Robert Downey Jr walked out of the interview conducted by that moron Krishnan Guru-Murthy? It's that sort of crappy journalism where such clowns are lucky they don't get lamped in their snot-box and i'm pretty sure many people here have seen Bond interviews where tge interviewer asks tge most asinine questions and you're left scratching your head how these fools found employment. Anyway, Craig's job is not at stake and he's not pulling a Christian Bale yelling at people. Like I said earlier, this is a non issue.

Actually this is a perfect example of an actor not acting smart. Downey is not stupid, and he is press savvy. He could have deflected the line of questions to move the interview out of the area he didn't want to discuss. Instead, by leaving in a huff, he gave the interview and the topic 1000 times the coverage it would have otherwise received. Given Downey's history, an interviewer asking about his well known troubled past is at some point to be expected unless his PR people only allow the most fawning press types to get to him. Downey will likely make up to $80-90m from the film he was promoting so big deal, he gets some questions he doesn't like. I just think some of these guys are so wrapped in cotton that they think they are far to special for the real world.

People having a pop at Craig for being a human being, a bloody down to earth one are nothing but a gang of saints it would seem.
anyway let's try to not derail the thread anymore. We have a trailer on the horizon.

Now some of you got on my case a few weeks back for bringing up the title song for SP, so how is discussing other actors and how they act in public and interviews in any way contributing to the Production Timeline? Keep it on topic, please. Just a few more days, and we'll all be drooling on our keyboards over a brand new, full-length trailer.

Of course Craig is well liked and respected. Just look at all the people who've worked with him more than once. If he was a dick, would any of the following people want to come back for seconds - EON (obviously), Sam Mendes, Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Wright, Nicole Kidman, Eva Green, Jamie Bell, Ben Whishaw, John Maybury etc etc.

Nope, haven't seen that RDJ interview, and don't know what happened there. Was the interviewer being offensive (I've seen/read that sort of stuff)?

As for Bale, I can only assume you are referring to a basically private row in very specific circumstances that was settled right away (between themselves, plus Bale apologized to the whole crew), but made public by some lowlife scum the following year? How is that even relevant in this context? It's not like he's in a habit of "yelling at people" or something. He is known for being sweet, generous, and absolutely hilarious, and a great guy to work with. He has tremendous patience with interviewers, and people shoving all sorts of stuff in front of him to sign, and he signs a hell of a lot, and he poses for pictures with people (quite regularly with a smile, too) - unless he's with his children (and when only a moron would ask). Bale is not at all likely to show you the finger or snap at you even if you're a papparazzo. On the whole he seems more polite and cordial than Craig does. When at work on a movie set I assume they are both very professional, hard-working and basically wonderful to people - I know Bale is, and have read plenty good things regarding Craig. On the media/press junket/general public front Bale does better job as far as I can see, so I don't know what your point was.

Did you watch the interview? Downey tried to steer away from the topic a few times but he kept on being badgered about his relationship with his father. On the subject of his troubled past he's dealt with it many times over the years but to have the topic brought up again after being in the role of Stark for the 6th time is a joke. The man is trying to promote a comic book movie and some ahole is pressing him continuously about an irrelevant subject matter. How much money Downey makes from the movies he's promoting is beside the point and has sod all to do with being wrapped in cotton. I guess the world will be a better place if we were all harassed for every adverse circumstance of our past being brought up.

During the Casino Royale premiere in France, Sebastien Foucan was asked (in French) what he thought of Daniel Craig's performance during the chase. Daniel Craig was next to him but waited for the translation each time to react. Foucan did a failed attempt at some humour and answered in French something like "Not bad for an old guy". The MC did not dare to translate, Craig was surprised by the "OOOhhh" from the crowd, and quick, quick, another question :)

Well I didn't see it, but based on what you wrote I fully agree with you on this part of your argument. Personal stuff is nobody's business, and actors have just as much right to privacy as anyone, and how much they get paid has nothing to do with that. When they are promoting a movie that's their job - not an analysis of their own lives.

Andrew Scott plays 'Bruce Denbigh' / 'C'
    Brigitte Millar plays 'Dr Vogel'
Wilhelm Iben plays 'Syringe Heavy' --> 'Syringe' literally means 'injection needle', so this man's name means 'Heavy Injection Needle'%

Incidental characters in screenplays have literal names. So he's basically someone who likely uses a syringe to attack Bond or an ally, or if not to attack, at some level on behalf of the villain.

Thanks @RC7. I further tried to bring some order to chaos, with help of:
    http://jamesbond007.se/james-bond-movie.asp?film=SPECTRE
    http://www.imdb.com

    So this we know:
    Andrew Scott plays 'Bruce Denbigh'
    / 'C'
Brigitte Millar plays 'Dr Vogel' --> Perhaps she plays an antagonist doctor, who happens to be a colleague of Madeleine Swann?
Wilhelm Iben plays 'Syringe Heavy' --> 'Syringe' literally means 'injection needle', so this man's name means 'Heavy Injection Needle' :-O
Monica Bellucci plays ‘Lucia Sciarra’ --> Again, it’s Old-Italian for ‘Trouble Maker’, so this could give away a slight plot detail
    Peppe Lanzetta plays 'Lorenzo'
Nicholas Marshall and Kumud Pant play 'Lair Staff' --> So, the evil nemesis in “SPECTRE” has a classic evil lair? In Morocco perhaps?

Perhaps by listing the roles per branch –if mentioned- you will get a clearer overview of the antagonist. Other interesting names/roles I have underlined. Also interesting to see how many Ukrainian and Russian roles were mentioned. Linked to current-day geopolitical events? And what are these Japanese aides?:

    Main cast:

    Léa Seydoux as 'Madeleine Swann'
    Monica Bellucci as 'Lucia Sciarra'

    Alessandro Cremona as 'Marco Sciarra'

A very interesting tidbit I found on the logo for the film:
Wonderful to see this on this blog. I designed the Spectre logo as part of my role as a senior at Empire Design. We have worked on the last 4 Bond movies.

On the question of the ubiquity of “Gotham” as a typeface, I totally understand this argument, but the decision was practical as much as it was aesthetic. We’ve just finished adapting the title style for use in something like 20 different languages. The letterforms of Gotham lend themselves perfectly to adaptation for an audience of this size.

The general public don’t see yet-another-instance-of-gotham, they see an ominous word picked ominously out of darkness with a 007 logo beneath as a confident, knowing sign off.

I can’t wait to actually see it incorporated into the title sequence.
