Introducing the David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Theatrical Motion Pictures – which went to Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli — veteran producer David Picker offered heartfelt praise to the creators and maintainers of the Bond franchise through “23 movies over 50 years … with license to kill at the box office.” The latest James Bond, Daniel Craig, joined him in honoring the Bond years. In accepting the award, Wilson praised “our father, Cubby Broccoli” – who, when asked ‘What does a producer do?” replied, “My function is to be responsible for everything.” Wilson added, “When it came to Bond, his advice was, ’It’s OK if you screw it up, but don’t let anybody else screw it up for you.’ “ Wilson went on to describe situations in which Cubby Broccoli had cooked dinner for the entire film crew and said he and Barbara Broccoli would do the same. “In this business where you are only as good as your last film, it’s [wise] to have a backup plan,” he said. Wilson joked that if the next Bond film is not a success, “Barbara and I will be available for all your catering needs.”

I must say Daniel looks incredible right now. Babs looks very classy, as usual, and Michael is looking very dapper as well and much better than he did a few months ago.

Well, that is nice to read about and great pics. Dan's hair is great; perfect length, I agree. In fact, he just looks splendid overall. I think Barbara looks classy and is wearing a style that actually suits her well this time. Lovely. This is a nice tribute to them; they certainly do work hard.

More great pics there! Thanks for sharing, not too long until we hear the rumours fly thick and fast! Can't wait for some more healthy debates!!! :-bd
  • Craig has some Dalton-esque hair going right now.
  • The more they age, the more MGW and Sean Connery look alike.

Just so long as he doesn't try the Licence to Kill casino 'do, it's all good. His hair is a little bit long here, for my taste, but I wouldn't complain if that's his look in Bond 24.

I thought that too about Shir Sean and MGW, @Perilagu_Khan.

  • a brief video clip of MGW, BB and DC at the Producers Guild Awards...

forward to the 20min30sec point to view...

well done to BB and MGW for the Selznick award.

Dan's looking really good there. Very dapper. I'd like him to keep that hairstyle for Bond.

Thanks for the video @nobodydoesitbetter and thanks for the photos and info @Germanlady. Following your link I found this strange but utterly cool photo of Craig and Helen Mirren.

They took a bunch of photos together, who's with me in hoping he did his now usual thing and asked her if she would like to be in the next Bond film?

Shame they've done the female M thing - Mirren would have been excellent in the role. Would it be weird if they just cast her as a Bond girl? They cast older men with younger women all the time - it might be a nice touch in B24.

Since Dench was practically the Bond girl in SF, that would taint the reputation of Craigbond, I think.

I meant just using her as a regular character that Craig beds - not some surrogate mother character.

She'll be seventy when Bond 24 is released. That would be absurd. She's a beautiful woman, even in her advanced age, but she'd shatter Honor Blackman's record by twenty years!

She'd make a good May Maxwell if they decided to use that character.

Shame. May be a decade ago she could have still pulled it off. I think it would be great to have Bond with some older women though. Trying to think who would work.

Honor was 39 when GF was released, 5 years older than Connery, but maybe you were referring to the age difference?

And still one of the best on-screen pairings in the series. Connery seemed like the kind of man/Bond who would not be scared of an older woman. Added to his coolness.

    My picks

    Maud Adams (why not?)
Oprah Winfrey (she has oscar buzz I heard, could be good to bring oscar gold to B24.)
Helen Mirren of course (watch The Long Good Friday classic brit crime caper)
and why not Babs Brocoli herself? The general public would not recognize her so it be a good wink to the fans, and of course Babs brings natural chemistry with Dan. Hollywood insiders will tell you that yes, the casting couch DOES exist, and Bab and Dan spent a few minutes on there!

Maybe they could show Blackman hopping out of his bed, then? Not that it will happen, but it would be amusing.
