What if EON totally remade one of the titles?

They take OHMSS, and remake it totally. Same plot, same characters...just with DC.

Terrible idea, no film should be remade. I'm sure there was another thread like this a while ago.

    EDIT: Here it is http://www.mi6community.com/index.php?p=/discussion/1375/replay-is-it-time-to-remake-a-bond-film/

bg, are you talking about remaking a novel or remaking a film?

As Sandy points out, the idea of going back to the books and adapting them more faithfully has been well-trodden on these boards.

But if you're talking about remakes of films...

Arguably, Eon has already remade YOLT as TSWLM, and TSWLM as MR (and in some ways, YOLT is a remake of DN). Plus GF and AVTAK share a fair amount in common.

My dream would be a new 'Moonraker'. You take the base from the book and its first suspenseful scenes, you make it more international (let's have some rockets built in India!) and you keep this gritty feeling there was in the book and which could be perfect with the tone of today's film.

The original Moonraker is such a joke, that making a serious Moonraker would be enough not to mix up the two of them. I do hope my dream will come true someday (I know it's only a kiss away 8-> )

I've read a lot of people clamouring for Blofeld to be reintroduced as part of the reboot.

I'm not totally against the idea but would he be used with completely original stories and no Tracy?

Once we bring characters like Blofeld back we are skating close to remake territory IMO.

I'm interested where people think the line should be drawn. Q and Moneypenny is obviously fine. Reintroducing the DB5 in CR and then SF just seemed like a box ticking exercise (although its appearance in SF is fun) and was unnecessary. Blofeld if done correctly I could maybe live with or is it a step too far?
  • @TheWizardOfIce As long as it's an original story with Blofeld I don't see the problem with it. I wanted him to return before the reboot and I still do.

Agreed on the DB5. Great car and I enjoyed it in SF despite my bitching but really I'm glad it's gone now. Since GE it's just been used as a cheap nostalgia grab, the only times I thought it didn't feel shoved in were in GF and TB.

If Blofeld returns I may not be too against it, though we aren't there yet. I have never been bowled over by the Connery era films with Blofeld especially. There was a real opportunity to have Blofeld be this haunting villain for Bond, but instead we get a tad of him in a volcano lair and then a mess of a character (in drag as well) in DAF. I liked Blofeld more when he was a mystery, and after all the years of seeing only chest down of him, the reveal wasn't that great for me, as I recall. It has been a while since I last saw YOLT and *puke* DAF. YUCK. I also hate how he is taken out in FYEO, if that is even supposed to be Blofeld, and if the timeline is even set in the present. That baffles me to this day. #-o

My point is, we could have a hell of a Blofeld with Dan as Bond if we get a great actor for Blofeld and really give him that nasty edge and extreme ruthlessness he has lacked for the films where he was quite underused or badly presented (YOLT and DAF for me). Having him as the head of Quantum could work, but let's see how things develop in the coming months.

Didn't Logan say he was a fan of Blofeld and he wouldn't be opposed to seeing him return? If he does come into the forefront, a name like Ernst Stavro Blofeld sounds out of place in the Craig era. Definitely one you wouldn't forget, but I guess Le Chiffre, Mr, White and Silva aren't names as normal as they come either.

You're forgetting that we got a fantastic Blofeld in OHMSS. So they weren't all terrible.

There are exceptions, yes. But like I said, mostly disappointment for me.

I liked Pleasence myself. Not a brilliant villian but he was fun, iconic and OTT.

He'll always be Dr. Loomis to me.

  • I saw YOLT before Halloween so to me he'll always be Blofeld.
