Little Things in Bond Movies you Didn't Notice Before!

edited February 2013 in Bond Movies Posts: 4,762
Does the title basically provide an accurate description? If not, what I mean is, haven't you noticed that when you re-watch a Bond movie after having seen it many times before, there is always something small that you take notice of, which you hadn't realized before? For instance, today I was watching LALD, and I saw something I didn't recognize before! When Bond arrives at his "Bungalow 12" hotel room, he goes to the closet and sees "Mrs. Bond's" clothes, finds a pink dress of hers, and hilariously sniffs it, giving a classic RogerBrow raise of approval!

Well, you listed something I've never noticed before. I've, honestly, never even noticed a pink dress in LALD. This is one I've been kicking my ass for ever since I first discovered it. In CR, during the title sequence, there's a scene were a 7 card flips up, and then two bullet holes pop up in front of the 7. The card then transitions into computer type saying 007 status approved. I hated myself for not noticing that. Saw the film in theaters. Didn't notice it. Saw it on DVD at least a dozens times in the first week, didn't notice it. Finally, I'm watching it not very long before QOS comes out, and that's when I finally notice it.

I have a sinking feeling that when I finally notice this, I'm never going to unsee it.

I notice new things in Casino Royale almost every time I watch it. That movie is so detailed and complex (IMO) O.O

You seem pretty cocksure about this?

Note to self: never watch YOLT ever again.

One thing I never noticed before was that there are nipple shots in OHMSS, DAF, and FYEO... I can't believe they got away with a PG rating back then. :))

Airplane! and Airplane! 2: The Sequel - both PG13, both have full frontal bare breast shots.

Dr.No had a wet t-shirt nipple shot from Honey Rider and Natalia had a full body nude shot in FWRL.

Let's get this back to some kind of point, rather than a seedy, 'when can you see brief nudity' kind of juvenile behaviour.
I don't often find things I've missed in Bond films anymore, having seen them many many times. But that's not to say they don't happen.
One of the things I like to look for are crew or cameras/equipment getting into shot, extras over acting or standing out for some reason, or goofs / plotholes.

I've learned something new: Natalia is in FRWL? /:)
And like my good colleague @Benny, I'd strongly recommend our members to stay away from the naughty stuff. Granted, in the right hands such things can be fun and whatnot and we can all have a few good laughs, but they also tend to attract the wrong participants...

Anyway, there's little I have yet to discover from watching the films I think, with perhaps QoS and SF as understandable exceptions. I continue to learn new things from reading about the films though. Cinematography and such, perhaps. Little errors, like @Benny mentioned, true. Those kind of things maybe.

It was a long time back now that while watching FRWL one day I noticed Sean laughing quite outright while the belly dance is going on in the Gypsy camp. Whether he was simply choking up or if something funny was going on behind the camera I have no idea, but I love to see that kind of stuff as it seems like he was really having a great time. It takes place at around 1:10 in this video:

Not to worry- he's doing a Honey Ryder style false alarm. He's wearing those Japanese underwear things:

Sorry about the quality of this video.
I love the guy with the dark suit, slick hair and moustache, stood behind the drunk in this scene.
The fist into the air is some quality acting. Around 1:52.
A little later in the fire truck scene, the camera crew platform can be clearly seen as the fire engine smashes the fuel sign over at the service station. From 5:05

^ lol that's pretty funny! Another over enthusiastic extra that you'll never be able to not notice again :D

    Ghostbusters has one of those guys too, during the scene when Ecto-1 drives to Dana's building for the climax! What is it with crowd scenes- there's always one of the extras who must think he's the star! 8-}
  • One thing that was great for me was that I had a theatre at the end of my street that used to play old Bond films. Unlike 2K digital projection, this showed 35mm film prints of the movies so the image clarity was double that of 2K digital (which is double that of hi-def and Blu-ray).

To see these Bond films in that theatre - that I had seen so many times that they were cemented in my memory - was a revelation. The level of detail was incredible and I was able to notice little details in the scenery that I could never see before. I can't remember any specific detail off the top of my head but GF was the first one that I saw there and it was like seeing it again for the first time - and it was the film that I had seen the most in my life!

I do remember an old roommate laughing about a stencil on the nuclear missles in TB - "handle like eggs". He'd never been able to read that watching the film on TV or VHS on his small TV when he was younger.

Maybe Connery found belly dancing a funny concept and couldnt hold his laughter in for that one shot. Or he decided to have a little fun with the scene after having to wear lipstick for the pre title sequence.

On a related note, it was very odd that Bond showed no interest with the belly dancer when she briefly gave him a lapdance in FRWL. She was all over him and yet his expression was like " Boring...."

I didn't notice the bike in TND was a BMW until my 4th viewing.

The Spy Who Loved Me - Jaws' "HOLY SHIT" reaction when he drops the boulder after bond escapes.
  • Maybe one of the above responses was good enough to never again take in a viewing of You Only Live Twice.. You won't be missing much, in that regard

I've never tried to pick out Maud Adams as an extra in the crowd during View to a Kill, even though it's well documented she makes an appearance or two

Next time you watch Moonraker, during the pre credits sequence, and the girl tells Moore - 'You're so right Mr Bond', and pulls out a pistol, watch Bond's face. I know Moore's Bond was a little phlegmatic sometimes, but it's ridiculous. Probably Moore's biggest humor appearance of the seven though, so maybe we can look above anything that occured that year

On the opposite, I found he tries to hide his interest and avoids being disrespectful.

The one in DAF doesn't count as its so brief. Its like the boob shot of Electra in TWINE ;)

The 'actor' playing Yuri Gagarin in FRWL ,as Bond asks if the clock is right in the Russian Embassy, running and waving his hands above his head as the bomb goes off - hilarious!

Pierce Brosnan's fantastic leer at Denise Richards' bottom as she climbs the ladder in the underground facility in TWINE gets me every time.

If you want Brosnan leering look at DAD. Its funny how sleazy he is :))
  • Kristatos' snub to Bond's ally at the ice rink when he is talking about Bibi. Bond's ally (can't recall his name) holds his hand out to him, but K either doesn't notice or is snubbing him. Moore just raises his eyebrows at the moment and they move on. A rare subtle moment in the film.

Mine's would be Mr Kidd pushing and pressing at a rose on the memorial garden wall in DAF as Connery-Bond walks past - never noticed the level of detail there before! A nice little detail, though!

Richard Branson's CR cameo at the airport gives you a good laugh the first time you spot it. :))
