You really think so....after 'Skyfall'? Not sure, I think Sam Mendes truly left a legacy other, more famous, Oscar-heavy directors, want to be part of as well.
All previous Bond directors in the past decades -Martin Campbell, Roger Spottiswoode, Michael Apted, Lee Tamahori, Marc Forster and Sam Mendes- were delighted, after negotiating good money, to be part of the Bond family. Of which Sam Mendes from now on will be the most noteworthy director; a director that will be more frequently compared with Christopher Nolan. Also, Hollywood basically re-discovered Mendes again. I wanna bet that Mendes needs to cancel a lot of other big money opportunities.
I think you're just arguing for the sake of it personally. There's no evidence to suggest Oscar-heavy (whatever that means) directors would want to be part of it. It made loads of money, but does that really mean Terry Gilliam would all of a sudden want to do Bond? No. To most level headed people SF is not the pinnacle of cinema, it's still fluff in the grand scheme of things.
I think you see things way too black-and-white. No, off course 'suddenly' a guy like Terry Gilliam would not want to direct a Bond film. And no, there's no 'direct evidence' that suggests Oscar-heavy directors 'suddenly' want to be part of it.
But I'm merely talking about legacy, about the effects 'Skyfall' has created. Legacy is not something you can measure with a ruler immediately. But it will have an effect on Bond 24 and business negotiations; they will go slightly smoother. And allthough Sam Mendes said 'no', for other directors it will not mean that 'Skyfall' will strengthen their opinions about not directing a Bond film. No, exactly the opposite.
And for the sake of a nice discussion. If you already know that Guy Ritchie and Chris Nolan will most certainly say 'No', could you instead come up with a list of possible directors that realistcally could say 'Yes' in the upcoming months, taking into account possible scheduling conflicts.
Yeah yeah, I talk crap. I'm talking absurd stuff :-S :-S :-S . BTW, I was talking about 'Skyfall's legacy....
I think its going to be Joe Wright. He doesn't (according to IMDB) have any thing lined up. It was my initial choice a while back (even before SKYFALL opened) as a potential director of a Bond film. He once dated a Bond girl! BB and MGW probably respect his work. He is a classy director. His films are very visual. He directed a top notch thriller HANNA and his films have garnered numerous Academy Award nominations. As long as he is interested seems like the obvious choice to take over from Mendes. I go with Joe Wright at the top of my list.
1.. Same pedigree as Mendes
2. Wants to do Bond 24 and has said so numerous times
3. Seems like the kind of director EON wants
4. Quick look to IMDB suprise surpsie he has nothing on his plate
Checking out the 2 names I want Morrell has a few films on his plate and no oscar pedigree (though I still would love him Taken was amazing)
Gilroy has nothing coming up but is A) American and B) never going to happen (shame I think with a stronger script Legacy could of been amazing.....sigh and since Logan will devlope a great Script Gilroy adding his touches I can't be the only one who wants it can I??????)
I m just guessing here but....
Hooper will be rumored withing 2 weeks
April announcement Hooper as Director and October 2014 release date confirmed
May-August location scouting casting rumors and of course the sun saying Bond 24 is Risico again (hey they will get it right one of these days!)
Sepetember certain location confirmed
October Certain cast are confirmed
November Press Confrence revealing Bond 24 is The Hildebrand Rarity (I wish)
Just my thoughts my gut is saying Hooper if I am wrong I will gladly admit I am wrong
Joe Wright would be a great choice. In addition he usually works with Dario Marianelli who is one of the most talented film composers around (his romantic themes are outstanding to say the least).
I don't ask for an award-winning director, that is no guarantee of quality (Tom Hooper, I'm looking at you :-L ).
I just want a good director who is not afraid to take risks, who is capable of creating very strong visuals but doesn't have too many distinctive maneirisms (vide Tarantino, Ritchie and Boyle) preferably British, who knows Bond inside-out both in book and film form. Is that asking too much?
My feelings exactly.
The legacy being a surprise hit due to the performance at the Olympics (that is by the way stuff of legends) and a Oscar winning song (there was never any doubt or competition for Adele's song).
Terrence Young left a legacy, as did Cubby Broccoli or even Sean Connery or Roger Moore. But a one movie wonder so far is not a legacy imho. The next movie could actually be a better movie and yet do less at the BO.
Skyfall will be a hard act to follow in terms of BO, as a movie it can be bettered depending on director nad his vision.

Thanks.
At least now we can possibly have a more reasonable conversation.
Let the 'who will win at the Box Office?' battle commence.
I don't think anybody answered this so ill ask again. Roger Mitchell was in negotiations to direct QOS. I've never seen any of his films so would he be a good choice?
Even if they do November 7, WB might move the film. Also EON will defiantly do the 7th so the logo can be morphed into the date in the trailer like the teaser for QOS before it was moved to the 14th
Say what you want about McTeirnan, but at least he knows what Die Hard is.
I don't know he just seems off to me. I don't think he has directed a true thriller or action either, and that is a big no-no (see Foster, Marc)
Likewise, Hooper has not currently direct a film which he had hand in working the script with - another concern that Mendes alleviated.
As much as I'm a fan of Nolan I'm glad he's ruled out as now we can stop all the ridiculous touting of him for the job, as some have said he's most likely to be this generations Spielberg, meaning the one that many people would have liked to direct Bond but most likely never will.
David Yates I think has the chops, try and forget he's done Potter, he cut his teeth on a rather superb TV Drama State of Play, which I though was as good as any series of 24, it's a pity that U.s remake was so lame.
I'm really beginning to think that Bond 24 will be released away from the new Nolan-film, perhaps November 2015 or spring 2016.
Are you mental? If Bond 24 came out in 2016 then there's a chance it could be Craigs last. He's in his 40s as it is and I don't think he's aging brilliantly.
If Bond 24 comes out in 2016 would Craig be able to do another in 2018 or 2019? I don't think he would.
No, I think they should try and get as many films as possible out of Craig while he can still make them it and EON know it to. I'm predicting that Bond 24 will probably be out in October/November 2014, 2015 at the latest.
I really don't think they'll wait until spring 2016 (almost 4 years after Skyfall) just because of Christopher sodding Nolans new movie.
