That might not be a good idea either....
....a great editor indeed...but don't forget...the last time he directed a film it also had a script by John Logan...the film? Star Trek : Nemesis
Logan went back to the keyboard....but Baird hasn't sat in the directors chair since.
Neither knew what they were getting into there.
I hope though that Hooper get's a shot doing it. Or else i'm open for Forster or Campbell even though that will not happen.
I do agree with you.....Maybe it's better to offer Martin Campbell the director's chair again?? Or still, Christopher Nolan......I am not ruling him out yet. I mean he was some kind of inspiration for Sam Mendes and the people behind 'Skyfall'.
What I really hope is, that Barbara and Michael still can secure Roger Deakins. That'll mean some continuity for sure in the style of camera shooting for sure...
Well, I put down my list already:
--> Christopher Nolan ('The Dark Knight', 'Inception')
--> Paul Greengrass ('The Bourne Ultimatum')
--> Danny Boyle ('Sunshine', '147 Hours')
--> Tom Hooper ('The King's Speech')
--> Guy Ritchie ('Rock'n'Rolla', 'Snatch')
--> Matthew Vaughn ('Layer Cake')
--> Martin Campbell ('Casino Royale')
--> David Fincher ('The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo')
--> Brad Bird ('Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol')
--> J.J. Abrahms ('Mission: Impossible III')
If all of the above can not be contracted by EON, then who the hell is left. I can't think of many other good directors. In fact, I think the Bond 24 director MUST be one of the above or otherwise I'm sad :-S.
Forster? Really? Anybody actually wants HIM back? I still think, the editing was his idea of a cannon like Bond film, he wanted. Well - didn't work out - at all. The film, even without a finished script would have been a beauty to look at with a proper editing. So no, certainly not him.
What about K. Bigelow. She can do action and she has depth. Can she do lightness of touch? I don't know.
Martin campbell is too old now. Its nerve wrecking and physically exhausting to do a bOND FILM OR ANY FILM OF THIS CALIBRE: dON#T THINK; HE IS P TO IT ANYMORE:
Mathew vaughn did his Bond film with Fassbender already.
Still say - despite someone jumping on it, someone with lots of guts is needed.
I think this will depend on the director. As I said in an earlier post - Andrew Niccol would be an interesting choice and he has worked with Deakins on IN TIME...and his next film THE HOST features cinematography by Roberto Schaefer (QOS) so there is already a BOND conection....
Deakins would be something...
It's become the running joke now, one film is all you'll get from a director. All the film series that have no problem in keeping a director coming back, yet Bond can't manage it. Is it that tough?
Maybe Michael and Barbara need to talk to John Glen, so he can tell that what type of person would sign on for multiple films and go from there.
Alas it's not like the good old days.
There are some British directors that can do action and make it coherent too without being a "BIG" name. James Bond should remain the biggest name in the franchise.
Quite a number of other series have had director's return.
I think the least thing Sam Mendes should do, is helping Barbara and Michael in securing many other crewmembers who worked on 'Skyfall' including Roger Deakins and Thomas Newman. I mean let's be honest here, EON rejuvinated Sam Mendes' career as director and because he did 'Skyfall' people in Hollywood are pulling at his clothes again. Maybe add him as 'creative consultant'?
That's correct. He's worked on a lot of Academy Award winning films, and just because he has spent time on a few of Mendes' films doesn't mean he is locked to the man. It's possible that he will return once more.
So we can agree on Matthew Vaughn, Tom Hooper and/or Brad Bird? Because you deleted those from my quoted message. Or else, what suggestions do you have? I'm honest here, I stick to my list here. Perhaps even put production of Bond 24 on hold till 2016 until one of my listed directors is available again.
I meant specifically to the Bond franchise but yes I agree other series do and I wish this could be the same for Bond again as it once was. I think it's benificial to have a continuity of direction, especially when it's a winning one as it was with Mendes and Skyfall.
That's why: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0253754/

It's a cruel world.
Watch both behind the scenes videos. I think was only decided in the past two weeks really :-(. I'm really gutted to be honest, because watching the videos down below Sam Mendes looked/sounded eager to return. Als hear Mendes saying: "I want to say a thank you to the people who we build this movie around [Bardem, Craig]":
Dont worry about greengrass. Babs has his cards marked. Be interesting to hear from that little bitch matt damon now that sf has gone supernova.
Also any new director nowadays needs the nod from dan.
