What if Casino Royale had been the first film?

We needed CR as the antithesis to DAD and the anything-goes 90s Bond. The best way to sober things up is to return to the most essential roots of the character. In a way, I'm glad things turned out the way they did. Also, I think the 2006 script was more or less the best treatment that CR could have gotten. Only in full FRLW mode might they have been able to pull it off correctly in '62.

So I wouldn't have minded a good CR as a fantastical début for Bond, but I prefer CR as the much needed medicine for an ill Bond.

Oh, CR saved the franchise, plain and simple. That said, I do like to speculate on how it would have been adapted had it been the first Bond movie in 62.

It would be terrible Dr. No was easy and simple to start off with.

Still interesting as a what if scenario.

They might hire the same people though as they did for Dr. No but it would just be weird.

Well, we don't know because it never happened. Had CR been the first movie of the series in 1962, we would have been used to it as the first Bond.

It could have been anything it could have been made up like Skyfall, it could have been Dr. No or Live and Let Die or it could have been 007 in New York or Risico (?) .

Suppose the first movie was simply titled 'James Bond OO7' or 'James Bond of the Secret Service' and was low key, similar to Dr No-- then Casino Royale would have come in 1963, in FRWL mode, as you put it. That would have been interesting. If nothing else we would have had a brand new first movie . After Casino Royale they could have gone by the book order

*edit. What hullcityfan said, lol. Looks like we were typing at the same time!

I Think Casino Royale witn Sean Connery would have been fantastic maybe the roles of the Bond girls would have been switched Ursulla as Bond girl who dies and Eunice as Vesper Lynd.

I like to think that Daniel Craig's era as Bond that started with CR takes place in an alternate universe. Much like what J J Abrams did to Star Trek... Lol..
