Knowing EoN they will go with a nr. 1 artist of the moment again (as with Adele and SSmith). Who are the main acts right now? I'm 38 and haven't a clue >_<
Or alternate Bond theme version mixed by Tom Holkenborg for end credits of the movie performed on the songcontest.
About him scoring Tomb Raider (2018). Partly MGM movie.
Great idea! Surprised this hasn't been suggested earlier in fact. I'm sure we could persuade Dustin the Turkey to come out of retirement (if the money was right) and do the Bond 25 theme song. That would be worth the price of entry to the cinema alone.
Another artist worth considering - John Legend. Who Do We Think We Are is a modern classic - the melody rather than the rap!
With the right song I think he'd deliver a great vocal. :)
If Justin Hurwtiz ends up composing (as some have suggested) it is indeed more than just a possibility that Legend would do it. The two collaborated for La La Land.
The truth is I want someone cool and interesting. If they could get Alex Turner from Arctic Monkeys to do the song that would be amazing!
However, I think the song if more of a commercial issue than anything else. We could of had Radiohead for Spectre (a cool, edgy indie band) but got Sam Smith (a very popular commercial artist who was big at the time). Sadly, I agree with Eon and would rather they used the song as a marketing opportunity if it means a bigger box office for Bond 25.
The biggest British artist (and one of the biggest in the world) is Ed Sheeran. So I think it be remiss of Eon not to give him the gig. However, I don't think his style is overly suited to the more theatrical Bond sound. So I reckon they should team him up with another popular artist for a duet. So we end up with something from Ed Sheeran and someone like Dua Lipa.
Gallagher would be awesome. I do miss a truly iconic and strong Bond song. Although to be fair, we had one in SF, but that was seven years ago.
Still say a purely instrumental song by Queen would do, ala OHMSS. But I think I'm defending this idea strongly because I hated the last vocal entry so much, really, so much, that I'm dreading what can come our way.
I doubt Queen would be any better.
To be honest the one Bond theme of this era that is going to age the best and has got better and better over the years is YKMN.
We can go on about Adele's mega smash Skyfall but it's quite dreary on it's own, great on the credits but Cornell & Arnold produced lightening in a bottle and that was the best Bond theme since AVTAK.
Yes Aha was Barry's swansong theme but I think it fell quite short of AVTAK and Dave & Chris for me produced a better far more dynamic theme.
Both of them got the remit and smashed it out the park.
So for me give the job to that musical genius Alex Turner and with his band let him create a work of art.
I've not liked Oasis or The Gallagher's for decades but I'll settle for that over seeing Sheeran produce something as forgettable and insipid as Sam Smith did.
All of this is true, IMO.
His last release was very much a stretch for him , and in many ways a departure from his established style; a large part of this was a result of working with producer David Holmes, the man behind the Oceans soundtracks, among others.
He would have been a terrific suggestion.
However, I think people are failing to appreciate the point from Eon/Universal's perspective. The title song is primarily a marketing tool used to reach a whole demographic of people who would not otherwise know/care that a new Bond film is coming.
It's a coveted job in the music business and it's likely they will go with a very commercial artist (who is likely from Britain) with a large following (this is where Instagram followers and YouTube views come into play).
From a creative perspective, they want a great song. But there is a massive business imperative to go for someone who can 'sell' the film.
For these purposes, I think either Ed Sheeran or Dua Lipa will 100% do the song. Believe me, I really wish it was neither.

It's Beyonce or Gaga.
Bigger is not necessarily better; compare DAD to YKMN, at their releases, Madonna was still an iconic mega-star, while Chris Cornell was nowhere near the top of his career.
