You must be joking. :O
It makes no sense, full of cringeworthy scenes and remarks. Everything seems so forced and childish. But hey, I said I liked it nonetheless. ;)
I saw it on release in '85, as well as many subsequent viewings in the years after, but after so many times it becomes a bit stale. The second was actually better, and at least they had the good sense to bring things to an end with the third (which wasn't up to much). Fox was around 25 years of age in the first release, playing a (circa) 17 year old kid. When I look back now, just doesn't sit right somewhere. They did a similar thing with Matthew Broderick in Ferris Buellers Day Off the following year. The Back to the Future series is an OK watch for a rainy day, but whatever appeal they had, seems to have worn off long ago
Bruce Li dreams that the real Lee is trying to tell him who killed him......unfortunately no memorable fight scenes , meh.
Chinese Kung Fu vs Godfather 4/6
Naive kid brings parcel from H.K to Amsterdam and he doesn't know it's contents :/
Anyway he teams up with a womanizer (played by late Lee Kun , of Big Boss/Fist of Fury fame)......great use of Ams locations and like Amsterdam Connection it's also shot in Paris. Prolly more of a comedy than straight basher fare.
It had decent fight scenes but the overall story felt bland and it felt like it was trying too hard with humor. Olympus Has Fallen was by far a much better, take over the White House, film.
Escape Plan 8/10
I liked this movie much more than I thought I would. It was fun to see Stallone and Schwarzenegger back together and the action wasn't OTT like how I was expecting it to be. This movie actually has me more pumped to see The Expendables 3.
My go-to Seagal flick is On Deadly Ground. Man, he momentarily redefined the term 'over-the-top' with that one. Michael Caine just lawn-mowered the scenery, Seagal had some fine moves, and Basil Poledouris offered up a fantastic score. Add to that the eco-friendly anti-corporate SPEECH at the end, and it just ROCKS as nothing else in the genre ever did. :))
Favourite LOL line:
"Ewwue, what is that? Halibut?"
ROBOCOP
To all whiners who have not seen it, stop whining. I loved the original when it came out and still do, but this version was a lot better in so many ways. Better effects, better back story and more realistically explained. This film has a heart even if Robocop does not. Made me care a lot more than the former which was more of a satire. Go see it.
I'm sure that if I'd never been a fan of the original I'd like it.
As it is, I might give it a rental some day... maybe... well, probably not. :))
PS Is this the film with Richard Kiel? I seem to remember him in some snowy film from this era...
The Abominable Dr Phibes (1971)
Price's Dr Phibes uses the 'Ten Plagues Of Egypt' to carry out his revenge on the 9 doctors whom he holds responsible for the death of his wife.
Dr Phibes Rises Again (1972)
3 years after the events of the first film, the not so good doctor returns for more themed killings. The kill with the scorpions had me squirming, especially that one scorpion that heads down south.
Vincent Price
1. Theatre Of Blood (1973)
2. The Oblong Box (1969)
3. The Last Man On Earth (1964)
4. The Pit And The Pendulum (1961)
***5. The Abominable Dr Phibes (1971)***
6. The Masque Of The Red Death (1964)
***7. Dr Phibes Rises Again (1972)***
It wansn't bad but neither great. Interesting characters but the plot is not very solid. It's made on the GoodFellas/Casino type of narrative but doesn't accomplish it well (nobody does it better than Marty). The best thing is the cameo by
In some ways I think I prefer this to Pulp Fiction. It's shorter, sharper and feels a bit more grounded in the real world. Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth and Lawrence Tierney give the best performances overall but Michael Madsen must get a mention as the sadistic Mr Blonde.
There are one or two little things I'm not that keen on (the slow motion when Roth dries his hands in the toilet baffled me), but overall a thrilling crime thriller that holds up well.
8.5/10
I just feel that it's another early Tarantino great where I get so wrapped up in the quote-worthy dialogue. This, 'Reservoir Dogs,' 'Jackie Brown,' they don't require anything but a good conversation at times to keep me heavily intrigued. Tarantino later one-upped this with amazing action sequences/dialogue in 'Inglourious Basterds' and one of the greatest shootouts I've ever seen/incredible dialogue in 'Django Unchained.'
Never claimed I was not.
See above. Not my fault, the Devil made me say it.
Sex, drugs and Joanna Lumley
8/10
Big Boss of Shanghai 3.5/6 , Kuan Tai and Jimmy Lee as 2 brothers who end up in crime , Chen Sing is the bad guy.
All star cast including Stallone, De Niro, Robert Patrick, Harvey Keitel etc, results in a fine watch that keeps the interest throughout. Maybe doesn't get the recognition it deserves, but you could do worse than spend two hours of your life with this viewing experience. Well worth a watch if you ever have the opportunity
