Friday the 13th Part 3 (1982) Finally I see Jason with his hockey mask - very badass look :D But yeah @haserot, part 2 is my favorite so far. I did notice the 3D gimicks and they didn't really work for me. Of course I didn't see it in 3D, but these gimickry kind of fell flat.
Not a great movie BUT.... it had this guy:

    bbde83b5cf7d566b83727ecf44336f9d-shelly-friday-the-13th-part-3.jpg

    ;)

We owe him for the hockey mask first and foremost
@Master_Dahark My god, that moment where Demon signing while he is sitting on the toilet was hilarious :D I was wondering what kind of good stuff they smoked while thinking of such a scene...

It's a copycat killer in part 5, I don't see any other explanation

On the bright side, the zombie Jason era begins next.

    Iron Man
Does it look really great on BR? I was afraid the CGI might suffer a bit...
One of my favourites of all time, that one is.

Friday the 13th Part 6 (1986) Pretty good movie, better than part 5, since Jason does the killing again, but not as good as part 2 or 4, or even 3. Why did they change the actor who plays Tommy?
  • edited September 2014 Posts: 4,813
Aww but he was 'the guy' in 80's horror movies! Thom Mathews was great in this and even more so in Return of the Living Dead! Which, by the way, is an absolute MUST for any Halloween party.

The truth is, the actor who played him in Part V became a born again Christian-- so apparently horror movies are a no-no? He wanted nothing to do with Part VI.

Besides..... you didn't want Corey Feldman back, did you? ;)

VI is my personal favorite of the series- it just seems like everyone was having fun making it!

But @Master_Dahark you're right, VI is like H5, they completly disregard the ending of the previous movie. But, with F13 VI, it works, unlike H5!

@DaltonCraig007, Corey was now too big for F13. ;-)

We just watched Firestarter. Wow, a movie like this could not be made today IMO, too much paedophile undercurrent... not to mention that the FIRE would be all phoney cartoon CGI.
I read that this was George Dubya Bush's favourite movie of all time.
No matter; he clearly loves it for far different reasons than I do. ;)

Jaws - masterpiece probably the greatest film ever made in moderrn era. Shot for shot this film is astounding.

    Jaws on bluray looks amazing.

my god yes it does..... the restoration they did on the film was remarkable - it looks like the movie was filmed recently....

when i bought my new TV and home theater system last year, JAWS was the first movie i put in... OMG, the picture and sound were remarkable - my theater system had the whole house rumbling when the shark was using the ropes to pull the Orca backwards - when they were trying to cut the lines.

Gentleman, I know we'd get on famously with comments like these. It's always been a favourite of mine. A near faultless piece of film making. A true masterpiece. Near perfect casting. A film I never, ever tire of, and that still thrills me on each viewing. After watching it on VHS and DVD for many years, I was blown away by the Blu-Ray version.
It's fathers day here, if we didn't have the film already picked out, I know my brother and dad would happily sit down and watch Jaws with me.
As it happens, Steve McQueen, James Garner, Richard Attenborough and co will star in our film of choice. After the recent passing of two greats, and as it is another favourite of ours. The Great Escape will win today.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) Brilliant! The story kept me guessing, especially at the start, if they were dreaming or not. I think Krueger is my favorite of the 4 'villains' (the others being Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees and Leatherface). First time I've seen Johnny Depp so young. Absolutly brilliant movie.
The killing of Depp was so brutal, loved it!

Stands up very well, vast improvement on the DVD version. The scene where Iron Man rescues the civilians from the arms bizzare looks great. Held of buying Iron man films till recently, second one looks good certainly the Monaco scene. Just part three to get now though did rent it on bluray when it first came out.

  • @Benny The Great Escape a very good alternative,a film I have neglected for too long. Indeed Jaws is amazing, Spielberg must have been shocked when he saw the final restoration. Have a great fathers day.

Glad you like Freddy! I too consider him the more amusing and entertaining of the slasher villains. Part of that is of course because we recognise a speaking actor, which automatically lends him more personality.

Though I more or less agree with @haserot's ranking, I really recommend you watch them in order. There's a bit of continuity in these films which may otherwise confuse the hell out of you. ;-)

@DarthDimi and @haserot I am watching sports on tv right now, but later today I'll be done with that so i can continue the Nightmare films!

I was thinking of watching either the 'Evil Dead' or the 'Saw' films after 'Nightmare'. I heard so much about 'Saw' when I was in school, but sadly I never watched them :(

I prefer the F13 films, but I really like New Nightmare, from the ANOES series. Freddy looks his most chilling in that one.

    1297594823937.jpg&size=650x366&quality=85

That's th eFreddy that should have been in Freddy vs Jason, that this is th eJason that should have been in the film:

    part9k.jpg

It's a good thing that I have the NECA New Nightmare Freddy and the Mezco Jason Goes To Hell Jason figures, should I attempt a stop motion Freddy vs Jason. :D

A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985) Letdown after part 1. I didn't care much for the characters like I did for the 1st film. But it was still fun. Preparing Nightmare 3 now :D

@Dimi, would you suggest the Star Trek movies? I've seen the latest 2 movies (from 2009 and 2013) and liked both of them, and I am wondering if the old ones are good too?

    @DaltonCraig007

Freddy's Revenge is IMO not the bad film people make it out to be. The genders have more or less been switched, with Jessie being pretty feminine for example. The birds spontaneously combusting always cracks me up. And this is the sleazy one. Freddy is the big Daddy this time. ;-)

Part 3 should give you more fun. Patricia Arquette is gorgeous in Dream Warriors.

    arquette_freddy.jpg

Larry Fishburne's in this one too, along with John Saxon and Heather Langencamp from Pt. 1. And of course we have Dokken's great "Dream Warriors" song:

No better trailer for the film than this clip. :)

I myself can recommend most of the Star Trek movies, but I also know some people downright hate them. It's hard to say.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors I agree with @DarthDimi, Part 3 ,is more fun. Arquette is very pretty :) And it was nice to see characters from the 1st film. And of course Lawrence Fishburne is never a bad thing to see in a movie, he's awesome :D

Yes @Dimi, I thought the bird exploding in Part 2 was hilarious. I loved that scene!

Machete is great fun, Machete Kills goes that step further and then some. You will enjoy it if you liked the first movie.
