So... women being kidnapped, tortured and cut to pieces. Rrrrright. And a recovering alcoholic ex-cop investigating. How original. I like Liam Neeson, always have, and he's a good actor - which was obvious even in this - I just wish he did more... well, actually good movies.

The Matthew Scudder book series are actually quite good to excellent reads. And as such this movie was actually pretty decent.

I watched "Chicken Run" again last night. What a fantastic film! I loved it as a boy, and I can say it definitely holds up from an adult perspective... and more! It is great on so many levels. Hilarious, emotionally engaging, dramatic, full of great characters, appropriate music, it has everything. And it is beautifully paced too.

There is not much more to say about Aardman Animations than has been said already, but I think this is the best film they've made. At least so far.

I've watched too many new movies to count lately - been trying to go through some bigger award winners - but the two that stood out the most to me were 'Platoon' and 'Where Eagles Dare,' especially the latter. What a damn shame it took me this long to get around to watching this, it's an excellent, excellent film.

I can't comment on the books, I haven't read them. I thought the movie was clichéd, and I didn't like it, but Neeson was good.

@jobo, yes Chicken Run was excellent as I remember... should re-watch...

I watched Steven Seagal action movie, Under Siege, last night. I know his acting abilities are limited but I do enjoy this movie.

    La French
Wow, this one is intense, scary, funny, emotional, has the most beautiful landscape backdrops in decades, impeccable casting, and even to the least minor role everyone looks impressive. I haven´t seen a modern film with such impressive and really authentically looking 70s design. Many shots truly look as if they were shot then. Cars, flats, accessoirs, not only is it a set design orgy, but the designers knew their stuff too. At the same time, the film successfully doesn´t shy away from contemporary camera work. I thought I got tired of the term "gritty" seven years ago, but this film is the mother of all gritty films.
Since we were talking about Michael Mann lately, in a way this a French version of Heat. Without ripping anything off, this film shows beautiful shots without end and tough villains and heroes as only 70s Southern France could provide them.

TLJ steals that film - as do the cake boobies.

That one is great too, just not as good... (IMHO and all that...)

    Jurassic World.

Took my stepson yesterday to finally see it. Have to say for me it did not disappoint us, and loved the nods to the original movie 20 years ago.
On a separate I have to say Chris Pratt in my opinion would make a great new Indiana Jones should Disney choose so?

I read an article that said because he is all religious & stuff (he thanks God for his family & such), that he'll never be a top star. 'Cause, y'know, that matters in the context of a filmed work of fiction. Apparently.

Blimey. I wonder what the logic was exactly... and if the writer has never heard of people like Mark Wahlberg and so on. (Not that I know since when Wahlberg has been religious, maybe he became a star first and then it no longer mattered after that if he became religious? I have no idea.)

I actually had to look up Chris Pratt, since I couldn't for the life of me even think of a face to attach to the name. Looking at what he has done I have apparently seen him in 2 movies (Moneyball and Her) - not that I remember him from them at all.

Planet Of The Apes (1968) - the original and, for me, still the best.

Kingsman, the secret service - I must say an enjoyable spy movie with an impressive Colin Firth, I'll be watching it again for its craziness and great fun and the great names really put in a splendid performance. Based upon this movie I would not mind having Vaughn in the driverseat in a future 007 outing.

Close Encounters of the Third kind and The Empire Strikes Back Two Classic films, they don't make films like these anymore and probably never will.

    When Worlds Collide (1951)

I'm a big fan of the 50's War Of The Worlds movie and this was in a boxset with it. Really enjoyed it; I do enjoy some of the older sci-fi movies.

Certainly TESB is the only StarWars film that approaches greatness. Gladly leave the rest behind (although I'd probably keep StarWars itself).

    The Hunger Games Catching Fire.

Until today I had only seen the first movie which I enjoyed. Also liked this movie too and was a very pleasant surprise to see Jeffrey Wright and Philip Seymour Hoffman in the movie too! Going to watch Mockingjay Part 1 tomorrow! Looking forward to it already! :-bd

Mr Holmes - local cinema - what a great little movie. Lovely direction, photography, story and of course acting. So nice to see a film that does't have a cut every two seconds, ott music score and shed-loads of cgi. Ian McKellen is of course superb, and the little boy he takes under his wing, Roger (played by Milo Parker) is an actor to watch for in the future…and can that really be Laura Linney as his mum?
    Highly recommended.
(ps - saw the trailer to Terminator:Downthepan (or whatever it's called) and there is a massive spoiler in it. Understand the director is livid, rightly so).

    Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 1

Another enjoyable movie. Looking forward to the final part this year.

    Percy Jackson Sea of Monsters.

A completely different movie I know, but I am a sucker for Greek Mythology! :D

    Terminator Genisys

Critics have said some pretty horrible thins about the movie and the trailers looked iffy sometimes. Well I finally got around to seeing it for myself this morning and I'm very happy to report that it's easily, easily better than 3 & 4.

I'll get around to posting a real review later cause I saw it right before work, but one thing I'll say now is that whoever had the big idea to spoil everything in the trailer should be FIRED. There were great surprises that were ruined because of it.

    Kingsman: The Secret Service

Crazily over the top fun, especially the church scene. I would be up for more Kinsman films. Firth was quite badass.

    Terminator Genisys

Much better than I expected. I recommend people leave their brain at home and go see this just for the spectacle of it. There are some iffy special effects in places, but it's far better than the trailer will have you believe.

Arnie puts in a good performance, as does Jai Courtney (who I'm happy to say can actually string a few words together without trouble....probably the first film where I've seen him do that). Emilia Clarke is her usual charismatic, spirited self.

It's probably on par with Jurassic World for entertainment value and like that film has reboot elements to it (in that there are some scenes in both films that evoke the originals and provide a reassuring nostalgic familiarity).

This probably should be considered the sequel to Judgement Day, and the original #3 & Salvation erased from memory.
