I haven't watched it yet, but I'm firing up my blu-ray steelbook of 'Mad Max: Fury Road' right now for the first time. Can't wait to see it in true HD on a 48" TV.

I'm glad you like Thief. It really is a good film IMO. And Caan excels in it. Great score too!

    Gojira (1954)

The original one, before the big G suffered badass decay. This one is dark and somber, with a very obvious anti-nukes message. Highly recommanded.

One thing, though : the only soldiers we see fighting Godzilla are Japanese. Wouldn't the US army and navy and air force be involved as well ? After all, there are still American bases in Japan, and even more so at the time, what with the Korean War having just ended. Funny, that.

The original Gojira is an incredible film; even the westernized edition wit the Raymond Burr additions is very effective. It is a very dark, ominous film. And yes, you would think it would have been all hands on deck to battle this threat.

    RED

Full of cliches, but the great cast makes it an enjoyable film nonetheless. Malkovitch is particularly funny here.

For those who wonder, RED stands for Retired, Extremely Dangerous.

Actually, @Thunderfinger, there's another film called 'Red', also starring Brian Cox. It's about a man and his dog and to be fair, I quite like that film.

    Final Girl
    final-girl.07.52-PM-620x400.jpg

Abigail Breslin is the last killer standing in Tyler Shields' photogenic thriller. Alexander Ludwig is the leader of a group of spoiled teenage friends who get their kicks from taking teenage girls into the forest and hunting them just for fun. They always catch and kill their victim, that is, until they make the fatal mistake of picking Veronica (Breslin) as their next intended victim.
When you watch the film, it's no surprise that the directors usual job is as a photographer, as there are so many shots that look like they're doubling as a photoshoot. I don't mean that as a criticism, far from it, Final Girl is a gorgeous looking film.

    Godzilla Raids Again (1955)

Less good than the first one (mainly because of the abandonment of the "Godzilla as a metaphor for nuclear weapons" theme of the first movie), but still good. We see what will become the template of the series for the rest of its existence, that is the big G fighting another monster (this time Anguirus, although how they could think that the ankilosaur was carnivorous I'll never know), and causing lots of damage in the process (this time to Osaka), while the japanese army is (almost) powerless. I have watched the original version, but I'm a bit afraid of watching the american version, given all I've heard about it.

For a few dollars more - Leone, Eastwood & van Cleef in a brilliant western that perhaps rejuvinated the genre as many claim.

Django - QT claims this to be a brilliant western, as a critic he knows his sh&t, as a moviemaker most of his movies lack rewatchability. This Nero movie does not have that defect.

My name is nobody - Henry Fonda & Terence Hill in a lovely quirky western with brilliant soundtrack, Nobody in fact does it better.

Just finished '2012'. I know it's bad, I know it's loud, dumb and vulgar, but I can't help but love this film. I am a sucker for disaster movies, and Roland Emmerich has never let me down (Independance Day, Day After Tomorrow, 10,000 BC, White House Down all highly entertain me). The CGI is breathtaking, lots of action and a good dose of humour. Woody Harrelson's scenes are worth the price of admission alone. :D

    Mad Max: Fury Road

I loved this in the theater and still love it just as much on blu-ray. Probably the best film of 2015.

I loved this in the theater and still love it just as much on blu-ray. Absolutely the best film of 2015.

There, I fixed that for you.

I'm already deeming it the best film of 2015 for me, there's no way anything coming out this fall will beat it, no matter how excited I am for SP, 'The Revenant,' and 'The Hateful Eight.'

Cloverfield Hadn't seen this in years. I remember loving it at the cinema, and it's still awesome. Found footage is not my favorite genre but this film is a true gem.

10,000 BC Another movie I didn't see in quite a while. It sure is loud and dumb (they seem to travel from Canada, to the Amazon forest, to the Sahara with no problem), but it is a feast for the eyes. Great locations and special effects, a fun way to spend 90 minute.

Mad Max: Fury Road. Instantly entered my top 10 all-time favorites, and I don't see another film being better this year. My heart is still pumping at 300 beats per minute despite having finished the movie 45 minutes ago.
  • Yea, Mad Max: Fury Road is truly the film to beat this year.

    My top 3 so far:

    1. Mad Max: Fury Road
    2. Ex Machina
    3. Kingsman: The Secret Service

Hoping Spectre can at least make the top 3!

    Citizenfour (2014)
Fascinating, and very well done. This won the the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature this year. Now I'm interested in seeing what Oliver Stone's movie is like.

Maggie (2015) Wonderful film! I was hooked from the very first minutes, thanks to an interesting cinematography, great soundtrack and absolutely mesmerizing acting from Arnie. Nothing really happens but the film has a great recluse feel, and it is a awesome to witness such immense acting from Arnie. Proof that you don't need tons of action scenes and explosions to create a great film.

Survivor (2015) Another epic film! Very low budget feel but the film is a total blast! Brosnan is pure badass in this, and Jovovich is quite good too. Not the best thriller/action movie, but still a very fun way to spend 90 minutes.

Wild Card (2015) Again, I had loads of fun watching this. Statham is more talkative than usual, but still manages to destroy many bad guys. Fun story, lots of cool scenes (like when Statham is playing blackjack), great soundtrack, and Las Vegas is a very exciting location as always (however I never plan on going there in real life). Statham is very good in this, he shows he has plenty of acting chops, and not just fighting skills.

Maggie was a superb film. Great performances from Breslin and Big Arnie S.

I agree @MajorDSmythe, Breslin was great too. I had an eye on her career since 'Signs'.

I haven't seen Signs, but i've seen a few of Breslin's other films, and I think she is coming into her own as an actress.

I always had a guilty pleasure for Signs. It's strange because normally I'm not into alien movies, but I really enjoyed this one. It has the huge plot hole at the end, but it's still an enjoyable ride I find - the humor is the best part, really. If anyone sees it, let me know if The Visit is any good; I've heard all sorts of talk about it being the best Shyamalan film since Signs. Of course that wouldn't be saying much, but still, it would be nice to see him make a comeback. The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable were great.

Just watched the extended BD version of Green Lantern, and really enjoyed it. No, it's not the best superhero movie ever, but it's competently made & Reynolds and Lively make the film better than it could have been without such amazing chemistry. The extended scenes added a little bit, but didn't radically change much.

Chappie (2015) This it the third time that Blomkamp has seriously impressed me. Great story, acting, soundtrack, locations, action scenes, this guy knows how to make awesome sci fi movies. I can't wait to see his take on the Alien franchise in a few years.

Ex Machina (2015) Wow, just wow. One of the best sci-fi movies I've ever seen, and will most likely end up in my top 3 films of 2015 once 'Spectre' is released. Oscar Isaac has to be one of the most talented actors in the business today. Splendid script, and wonderful cinematography. But the real star of this is Alicia Vikander. This is the first time I see her in a film, and she totally impressed me.

Kill The Messenger (2014) Very good film. Jeremy Renner gives a stunning performance in a no-nonsense thriller based on a true story of dark CIA lies. I was really looking forward for this, given the writer/director of this also work on the tv show 'Homeland', and I was not disappointed in the slightest.

Nightcrawler (2014) Absolutely epic film! Epic story, wonderful atmosphere in the night of LA, similar to 'Collateral', and Jake Gyllenhaal gives the performance of a life time. One of the best movies of the decade so far. And the soundtrack was awesome.

St. Vincent (2014) Bill Murray makes everything awesome, and he does the job perfectly here. The movie is nothing new or groundbreaking, but the chemistry between Murray and the kid is so good, the film is a must-see. Epic soundtrack, great humour... I loved this film!

Gone Girl (2014) David Fincher strikes gold once more. After 'Zodiac' and 'Dragon Tattoo' I thought he reached the rarified atmosphere of the thriller genre, but here he just surpasses himself. This plot is just sick, twisted, gut-wrenching, and Rosamund Pike gives an Oscar-deserving performance. Ben Affleck was awesome in this too. I can't wait for Fincher's next work.

I'm glad you liked Gone Girl, @DatlonCraig007. I loved going on a crazy ride not knowing what was ahead and the film's commentary on marriage, gender roles and the hypocritical and exploitative nature of the media amongst other issues was on point. Fincher still reigns supreme for me as the king of psychological thrillers.

I've been meaning to check out Nightcrawler for some time now, and just thought about it again as I read your post. It's in my Netflix queue so it's only a matter of time until I get around to it.

Scooby Doo Meets the Boo Brothers (1987). This is one of my most nostalgic movies ever; it's silly as heck, but I still appreciate it. It's just so funny and entertaining, I can't imagine how one could hate it. My personal favorite Scooby Doo movie - just a blast.

The Pink Panther (1963): Third watching of this film which I tend to dislike more and more over the years. Overrated and excruciaitingly boring, but at least it had some redeeming qualities: that hazardously funny chase scene, spawned the greatest cartoon series of the 60s and, best of all, four awesome sequels, especially A Shot In The Dark, which had all the potential to be an utter failure, milking on the most interesting character of the first film, and resulted in a masterpiece.

I'll take this opportunity to vindicate three often forgotten Blake Edwards gems: The Notorious Landlady, What Did You Do In The War, Daddy? and, indulging in very personal choice, because I know it's a mediocre movie overall, but I love it:Blind Date.
