It really is a film for patient movie fans who have the time to take in the scenes and let things develop. I great great film

    This. We literally got some multi-minute long scenes of him cleaning guns, ordering coffee, walking the streets, etc. I loved that it was a very taut, slow-burning thriller that looked into the life of an assassin.

    Fashions come and go... All actors who care about movies and stories and acting do movies that they know aren't likely to do well. Commercial or critical success is not what makes them tick in the first place - nice if they happen, but...

    I take the marketing was all wrong, though, trying to make it look like it was a different kind of movie that it was. So a lot of people who went to see it expected something else entirely than what they got, and were often disappointed ("oh so slow, booooring!"), while many who might have appreciated it didn't go see it, because they assumed it was a typical action movie.

    Last night I did a double dose of 1990's badass actioners, with Assassins and Demolition Man. 'Assassins' was simply awesome, Sly and Banderas were on the top of their game, brilliant to watch, and 'Demolition Man' was very cool too, lots of action and tons of things blowing up with a Sly and Wesley Snipes going all out to provide 100% pure entertainement.

    Incendies, directed by Denis Villeneuve, which was all the reason I needed to check it out. Heavy stuff - not what is shown, but what it's about. (Anyone interested: do yourself a favor and don't read the story in advance.) People are terrible and do terrible stuff to other people all the time and this is an interesting look at that. Not recommended for people looking for easy, light entertainment that is comfortably removed from reality.

    Sicario was fantastic! I was thinking thru it, what if Benecio Del Toro came back to the Bond franchise, this time playing the main villain!

    Viewed the much-hyped Donnie Darko (2001) for the first time last night. While many people love this film and a few dislike it, I fall in between. I can't decide if it's very clever, pretentious, or maybe sometimes both? Anyways it's a little too convoluted, but it was entertaining enough; I always wanted to see what happened next.

    Jennifer Kent's directorial debut became one of the big surprises of 2014. The Babadook is more than just a psychological horror film--it's a testament of how creativity and talent can overcome the limitations of a small budget and deliver impressive results. The titular Babadook, a ghostly sort of Dr. Caligari for the modern age, isn't merely a frightening creature but one of the most effective metaphors ever in my experience with horror. Even though I hate the kid with the issues - which I guess is the point - I nevertheless admire the results.

    Babadook - dook - dook ... Huge recommend!

    The Babadook was a very good film. One of the best horror films of the century, actually.

    @DaltonCraig007, caught 'Assassins' on Netflix for the first time a couple of months ago and loved it! Very, very entertaining.

    I love Assassins too- isn't it weird that shortly after that Stallone sort of had an 'off period'? I mean, sure he had a few movies that made money (Specialist, Cop Land) but particularly in the early 2000's he even had a few direct-to-video bombs at one point! WTF happened?!?
    Fortunately he got back on track with Rocky Balboa and is still at the top. But I can't help but be annoyed that we pretty much got screwed out of a decade of good Stallone flicks!

    Could you imagine if he came up with the Expendables in the early to mid 90's?? I drool at the thought-- hell, we'd be up to number 10 by now, lol
    I'm looking forward to Creed, and I'm super worried that Rocky will die in it (Han Solo in TFA too...). That really goes to show how much a character can be loved!

    @Dartdimi I saw "It Follows" on the big screen last spring. You are spot on. I love this little horror film. The ninety minutes is not wasted.
    I like how the film plot plays on our taboo re pre-marital sex as well as our fear of STD's
    A smart little film indeed.
    Unfortunately such horror films are few and far between these days...

    Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2. Possibly the worse movie I've seen this year, possibly even in the last 4 years. Boring. The first hour consists of mostly heart-to-hearts, lengthy exchanges and endless rebel-rousing speaches. One guy was snoring loudly in the seat behind me; it took all my will power to not join him in this coma-induced borefest of a movie. There's only one stand-out set piece involving mutated creatures, oh and an oil-slick. That's it. This doesn't even warrent half a star. It's terrible. It's about as thought provoking as a Christmas cracker proverb.

    The Heist...........starring Robert DeNiro and Dave Bautista.

    Not too bad a film, and even Bautista has a speaking role, though his voice isn't very clear to be honest

    Definitely overrated. I liked it enough, but I wouldn't buy it.

    Spotlight

    Great film about The Boston Globe's investigation and subsequent expose of rampant child molestation by Catholic Priests in Boston. Superb cast (Mark Ruffalo, Liev Schreiber, Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams, Stanley Tucci, & John Slattery). It's a period piece, with limited music, and quite procedural in flow (think All the President's Men, or even Zodiac) but the cast is so superb & they keep it all together. Recommended.

    Spielberg's Duel (1971). Can't believe it's only a TV movie - it's really entertaining!

    Oh, aren't TV movies entertaining then? Back in the late 60s early 70s they made some of the most entertaining TV movies that would give a lot of the cinema outings a run for their money. And of course Duel was so successful that Spielberg shot an extra 15 minutes and it had a short theatrical release.

    I really enjoyed it! I rarely ever watch TV movies myself, but I really liked this one. Sometimes simplicity can be a movie's greatest strength.

    It's an all time classic. Spielberg showing the world what was to come....

    It was sort of remade/reimagined in a way in 2001 as Joy Ride starring the late Paul Walker and the always entertaining Steve Zahn. No where near as good as the original, but still a lot of fun. Recommended..

    I had the same reaction. I can't believe that I could be so bored by a Jurassic Park movie. Over hyped boring movie.
