Btw, it was fascinating to watch Spielberg's much later done interview on that dvd. I never realized he used some of the same stuff on Jaws, like, um, that certain sound effect. - I guess I need to re-watch Jaws now that I still remember that...
Agreed. I'm a fan of the packed beach scenes, too, the detail and coloring really pops and stands out.
One of my favourite movies is Ninja Assassin, it belongs into the same category for me as other masterpieces like Ong Bak or The Way Of The Warrior.
I wondered if an even more brutal movie will ever come along than Ninja Assassin, that I will like.
Yesterday I wasn't sure if I like Hardcore Henry, but sleeping over it I realise how bloody fantastic it is, literally.
It's a roller-coaster ride of unthinkable proportions. The whole movie is like a First Person Shooter video game. The level of gore and blood is insane. The body count must be in the 200+'s.
I already pre-ordered the steelbook, it's out in July. @DaltonCraig007
I saw it in theatre, too (in San Francisco...sigh... far more special than the movie...) Maybe I was too old by then or it just wasn't my cup of tea. Never had any interest in seeing the next one (never mind the ones that followed).
Very mixed bag. Duel is one of my faves, too.
I'll need to do some more re-watching. For instance, I don't think I've seen Schindler's List since its theatrical release, so, um, it's been a while. At the time I thought it was wonderful, apart from the ending, I'm curious to see what I'll think now. Need to re-watch Indy 1-3, too (won't bother with 4, that was sorta painful to watch even once), though I've last seen those some years ago. Empire OF The Sun is wonderful. Munich. Minority Report was pretty good. I need to re-watch Catch Me If You Can - I had no idea who Amy Adams even was when I first saw it, weird to think now... Tintin was quite fun. I guess I need to re-watch Saving Private Ryan since I distinctly remember not liking it when I saw it on release and it's supposed to be good. The rest... meh... Well, Bridge Of Spies surprised me by being pretty good, but I just saw it in December so no need to re-watch now.
I love that film and would really like it in my blu ray collection, but don't want to upgrade if the PQ is not noticeably better.
You have to know the Blu-ray has fantastic picture quality!
But it is 1:85:1 aspect ratio, that decision was widely debated when it got released.
Also the US DVD (if I'm not mistaken) has the TV version which is 75 minutes.
The Blu-ray has the theatrical cut which is 89 minutes.
In my opinion, you should get the Blu-ray and keep the DVD as well. For nostalgic reasons I recently watched the (German) DVD, which as I said has the tv version in aspect ration 1:33 on it.
After seeing Hardcore Henry yesterday, I felt like watching this today.
I've seen it a couple of times in 2009/2010.
Now imagine my total surprise when I realised that Naomie Harris is the female lead.
I totally forgot that.
If you can stomach brutal slayings and want to see Moneypenny working as an Europol agent before she was hired by MI6 this movie is a must-see!
Tim Thomerson is Bruce Campbell level cool.
Ordered first film, the UK art work on the Bluray is old skool, like it. HH should not have top billing.
It's been a while since I've seen this film. One of the best with great performances from leads Christian Bale & Hugh Jackman, as well as stellar supporting cast members Michael Caine, Piper Perabo, Scarlett Johansson & Rebecca Hall.
Christopher Nolan's direction is crisp & tense. I don't care what anyone says, no flim maker from the past 20 years has continued to impress me each time with the sheer scale, ambition and execution of his film making as Nolan. He truly is a visionary.
Wally Pfister's cinematography is absolutely stunning. David Julyan's score is compelling.
I won't give anything away but for those who haven't seen it, get it and enjoy it. Superior film making here by a master at the top of his game.
I actually have not seen that version! I love Disney animated classics in general though, and Jungle Book is in my Top 20. Such a fun movie. I would say the new one isn't quite as great as the critics would have you believe, but it's still worth a watch. Lots of things I liked.
In other news, The Killing Joke adaptation is officially R-rated! Figured it would be, but that's still big news. Can't wait for that film.
But the 1994 version is cool action.
This new one will no doubt freak my Wife & Son.
:))
