Well I love 'The French Connection' and never saw the sequel because I heard it was pretty bad, so perhaps this is the unofficial sequel I've been looking for all this time.

The sequel, while it isn't as good as the original, it doesn't deserve to be avoided.

    OMG really.
Didn't even know that exists :-\"

Will look it up once I'm home. If iTunes has it it's a done deal. I have to see more of him now. Was that also made by Kubrick?

@BondJasonBond006, Peter Hyams made the sequel. As with the first, the source material is by Arthur C Clarke. Not the classic the first one is, but quite enjoyable.

Maybe I'll have to get around to watching both, then. I thought I looked up the sequel when I first saw 'The French Connection' and the general consensus was that it was bad, but if it's solid enough to check out, I'm in. I'll get around to both of them soon enough.

Hyams? That's great, he did my two favourite Van Damme movies Timecop and Sudden Death, I'm excited now to see 2010 :)
Just checked on my iPhone, iTunes has it in HD :) for a mere CHF 14 (117 NOK according to my foreign exchange calculator)
Thank you for all that info you're the best.

*raises hand* The Seven-Ups is like The French Connection 1.5. If you liked The French Connection, you'll probably like The Seven-Ups. They share the same urban gritty feel, and as you said, there's the hugely underrated car chase.

Just ordered it on amazon.de for a whopping 30 EURO as it is not "officially" available anymore. Luckily a seller on amazon still has 2 copies :)
It seems The Seven Ups is quite hard to come by on Blu-ray. It's out of print in any of the big Swiss online stores and I couldn't find it on amazon.com.
Amazon.co.uk has it as pre-order release for the end of June funny enough.

Congrats on finding a copy. I have no idea of how hard it is to find, as I bought my DVD of The Seven-Ups when it was finally released on Region 2 back in 2010.

So there's a new release, packed with special features? Scheider is one of my favourite actors, and that is one of my favourite films of his. I see no reason why I can't double-dip.

The Force Awakens. I was afraid to find it not as good as when I saw it in the theaters, but in fact, it was as good now as it was then. Not Empire Strikes Back, that's for sure, and yes, reminiscent of the first movie in parts, but still really good. Now, on to Rogue One, as soon as it hits the theaters.

Oh, and why do people mistake (Charles) Bronson for (Pierce) Brosnan, I'll never know.

Sunset Boulevard (1950). Terrific old classic.

Out of Africa (1985). Sorry to the fans but so far this has been a snooze-fest for me.

'Three Days of the Condor' is amazing. Took me too many years to watch it, but I'm glad I finally did a while back. Redford is fantastic in that.

My favorite one of his I've seen is a directed one - Quiz Show (1994).

Agreed. Benchmark conspiracy film that has been copied many times since. I enjoyed it so much last time around that I immediately ordered the blu ray - which reminds me that I have to watch it again. Both Redford & Dunaway are excellent in it.

Captain America: Civil War at my local cinema. This was way better than I was expecting. And the new SpiderMan was a revelation, oh so much better than Andrew Garfield films.

I'm doing a double feature right now. I'm in for a real treat.

    2001 and 2010

I bought 2010 a couple of days ago as I'm on a Roy Scheider collecting frenzy ;)

I looked up in my list when I last watched 2001. On October 23rd, 2008. Didn't realise it's that long ago, so I decided to re-watch it and then enjoy 2010 for the first time.
I'll report back when I've seen them. And many thanks to all the great recommendations that you people give in the movie threads. This forum is a cinephiles dream :-*

    Civil War
    Some mild spoilers ahead

I finally saw it last night and loved it!!! I'd give it a 7 out of 10 easy! (Same as BvS if you're wondering ;) )

As others have said, Spidey & Black Panther stole the show. Civil War had the ideal mix of action and fun-- it's the Mission: Impossible to Batman V Superman's Spectre in a way, if that makes any sense.

One nitpick ... or more of just an observation: for a movie called Civil War, and having read the comic, I didn't feel as though the stakes were all that high. When they fought, it felt more like a brawl than a war. Even Black Widow said to Hawk-Eye 'so we're still friends after this right? Lulz!' In fact, as entertaining as it was, there was waaaaaay too much talking while fighting. It did lower the suspense a bit. It seemed like the only one who was actually there to kill (because, you know, WAR) was Black Panther.
Not that I expected everyone to want to rip each other's heads off in a giant bloodbath, it still felt too much like a 'play fight'. They could have called the movie Civil Disagreement. The big passionate fight was with Cap & Iron Man at the end.

But I digress, that was the only thing that wasn't perfect. So that's still one hell of a great movie in my eyes! I was in a full energetic theatre too! Everyone cheered when Cap held the helicopter and they roared with laughter when Cap got kissed, and Bucky & Falcon were watching like 'aww yeah'. :))

I'll be seeing this one again and soon!

Driving Miss Daisy (1989). Liked it quite a lot. Don't know if it's best picture worthy, but very entertaining.

Rocky Balboa 2006 has heart and for the most part captures the feel of the original. I watched the two back to back not long ago; combined, they made one enjoyable film.

I've been a fan for a long time. I actually like all of them save for 5. My current ranking:
    1. Rocky
    2. Rocky Balboa
    3. Rocky 4
    4. Rocky 2
    5. Rocky 3
    6. Rocky 5

Still haven't seen Creed. Plan on doing a full marathon including it.

Thank goodness they didn't go with the original ending in which Rocky dies.
