This film was ignored, neglected, criticised and disliked.
Yet I love Blackhat from start to finish. Michael Mann's latest thriller may not have given us another HEAT or Insider, but that's okay since Blackhat is its own thing. And if you ask me, it's a good thing. The acting is good and if people insist that Thor cannot convince as a genius hacker, wow, they're pretty narrow minded. Stuart Dryburgh's cinematography is very reminiscent of Dante Spinotti's work for Public Enemies. I love the various city nightscapes. I can almost feel the moist and heat in the air as we walk through crowded streets full of neon lights. Every shot matters and adds to my joy. I'm even paying attention to the story while watching. I mean, maybe I'm an easy lay for all 'Mann-things' (okay... that's gonna come off strange), but I nevertheless fully appreciate this film. I think Blackhat deserves a lot more appreciation than the film usually gets.
I hope Michael Mann returns to filmmaking soon enough.
There first mistake was cutting Nuclear Man Mark 1 from Quest for Peace. WTF were they thinking!
:)>-
I initially liked it and for the most part still do, on reflection the ending did not work for me and they blatantly borrowed from Guardians of the Galaxy with the mix tape. The use of nostalgic songs does tend to manipulate the audience emotionally, every time they played a song in The Martian I thought rip off.
Heck yes. Those are the Big 3 to me; all are some of my favorite films - Blade Runner being my personal favorite.
So happy to hear this! I actually blind bought both of them myself a while back on blu-ray, heard only amazing things so I knew I wouldn't be disappointed, and they really wowed me with their sequences; that entire hospital finale is wild in 'Hard Boiled,' and I love the house and church scenes from 'The Killer.' Very well done.
Recently bought Blade Runner Final Cut on HD down load looks fantastic, I have yet to buy the Bluray undecided which box set to get there are quite a few.
I like, on average, most Besson films, but I only truly *love* five of his: Léon, The Fifth Element, Nikita, The Big Blue and of course LUCY. In fact, LUCY may very well be my second favourite Besson after Léon. ScarJo is delicious, Serra's music works very well and the story, while a load of bollocks, is sold in a convincing way. Like pages stripped from a Michio Kaku book, the "what if we could harvest our full brain capacity" plot is actually very entertaining. Blend Sci-Fi superhero stuff with a touch of French surrealism and you've got LUCY, a short but perfectly entertaining film.
to fully work for some reason.
:))
Better make that two.
Great fun .
Daisy Ridley is fantastic in the film. Without her i think the film wouldn't be as good as it is.
John Boyega and Adam Driver are good but Oscar Isaac is miscast i think.
