    This is a fact!

Re-watching 'The Wailing' now. Pants-shitting nightmares will be on the itinerary for the evening.

Drop the charade, @Thunderfinger, I've seen your house and all the Brosnan cardboard cut-outs that inhabit it.

Don't ask me how I've seen inside your house, though.

    Predator

Continuing my theme of 80's icons, this is another classic IMHO. Just the right balance between action and character. A great soundtrack and surely Arnie's best movie? The directing is class and so is the supporting cast. Just another one of those 80s action classics that, to me anyway, dont seem to date and are so so re-watchable.

Spider-Man (2002). Not part of my horror-thon, but really wanted to revisit this flick. It's a very fun, nostalgic movie for me. Still my favorite Spider-Man movie, and one of my favorite comic book films easily.

Predator is great certainly, but I personally prefer Total Recall, & T/T2.

    Zootropolis (2016) (AKA Zootopia)

Really imaginative and engaging with some delicious visual detail. Not sure how much of it's social commentary will gel with younger viewers, but it's fast, funny and entertaining.

    Loved the Godfather parody!

I should try again as T2 is a superb movie also. I meant his best attempt at acting and fitting in as a character. His non-acting persona was perfect for T1 and 2 and it was almost a lovely joke that he was perfectly cast as his acting was limited.

With Predator, he intereacts with the other cast on a literally human basis. He is not pushed too far but he does work within the role.

That's a good point and I agree. Have you seen Total Recall? I highly recommend it. True Lies is superb also.

Oh, yes, seen them both and both enjoyable in their own way. TL's is good but tongue in cheek so AN pulls it off. Predator is always meant to be taken seriously so IMHO, its a harder challenge for Arnie and he pulls it off. I think the Director deserves credit for not over stretching him but still getting some great and memorable dialogue.

I haven't seen Predator in ages, but recall really enjoying it when I did. Your review has inspired me to watch it again soon. I liked the second one with Danny Glover & Gary Busy as well.

They were on a double bill last night. 2 is a stincker IMHO, I would rather watch the original twice ;-)
The context of the "winning Vietnam" symbolism was something I only picked up later. Adds a new dimension when watching.

    Deepwater Horizon (2016)

    Deepwater-Horizong-header.jpg

I was looking forward for this film for a while, but the review @bondjames made about a week ago totally sold me on the film. But I was still not prepared for how tense and nerve-racking the film is. From the moment they arrive at the oil rig, the tension doesn't stop rising until the catastrophe happens, which is when I witnessed one of the most impressing 'disaster' scene I have ever seen. I sunk in my seat once sh*t hits the fan. A powerhouse performance from Mark Wahlberg, but it is Kurt Russell and John Malkovich who steal the show. Those 2 were totally chewing the scenery whenever they appeared on screen. This film is on par with 13 Hours that I saw on the big screen earlier this year. 100 minutes of pure nail-bitting intensity. I can't wait for Peter Berg's and Mark Wahlberg's next project together, 'Patriots Day' which is coming out in a couple of months. Berg is IMO one of the most underrated directors in the business today. Apart from the mess that was 'Battleship', his films never failed to impress me (The Kingdom, Lone Survivor).

Next stops: 'Jack Reacher: Never Go Back', 'Doctor Strange' and 'The Accountant'.

Peter Berg is a great action director. The last 20 minutes of The Kingdom and most of Lone Survivor proved that!

Prometheous I over look it's obvious failings a visually stunning film.

Lethal Weapon one of the best films of the genre, one of my all time favourite movies looks good on BD.

@fire_and_ice, the visuals are great in 'Prometheus,' but the pacing issues and lack of knowing just what the movie wanted to be exactly help to hinder my enjoyment of it. Hoping 'Alien: Covenant' is a solid return to the horror roots.

Agreed. It was the first film I watched on my large screen tv with home theatre sound and the experience was incredible.

@DaltonCraig007, I'm glad you enjoyed Deepwater Horizon. What a rush it was. It just dawned on me that Kate Hudson (also in the film) is Kurt Russell's stepdaughter. I forgot about that while watching it.

It's just so darn sharp and crisp. The opening planet scene with waterfall and Engineer still gives me chills every time I see watch it. Heck, I'm now all excited to see it again!

Ridley Scott is such a brilliant visual director, the opening sequence has amazing detail really looking forward to the sequel. Think I will watch Blade Runner later curious to see that upscaled.

    @fire_and_ice

Glad to see someone else enjoying the 4K experience.
I spent a lot of money earlier this year on 4K Blu-rays and the new 4K Blu-ray player.
The TV Set I got last year already is 4K (Samsung) and watching Mad Max Fury Road in 4K was almost an out of body experience. I was hovering over the floor for 2 hours, mouth open, and my heart skipped a beat every so often of excitement.

Yet to see Prometheus and The Martian in 4K, Ridley Scott is my favourite living director. A true genius.

Pure coindidence but now watching T2, it is just a majestic movie. Well executed in every ellement. I am developing a "thing" for these 80s mainstream action movies (I know T2 is a bit late), they seem to have a balance between action and character that has become lost more recently. Perhaps its CGI or audiences wanting more action?

Die Hard, Rocky, Robocop, Predator, First Blood, Top Gun, etc ....of course, it could just be rose tinted specs.

    DAY 7
    DAS CABINET DES DR. CALIGARI

    film__3640-the-cabinet-of-dr-caligari--detail.jpg

Robert Wiene's 1920 expressionist film stands as my favourite silent movie of all time. Intriguing, eerie, ..., we can see where Tim Burton found inspiration for his movies.

    Great movie!

    DAY 8
    THE BABADOOK

    babadook_0.jpg

Incidentally not too far removed from Dr. Caligari is this strange fantasy horror film, made for very little money but highly effective in scaring the living essence out of me. The Babadook understands the craft of creating an uncomfortable atmosphere.

    DAY 9
    IT FOLLOWS

    It-Follows-2014-Free-Movie-Downloads.jpg

Another scary movie; original, facinating, ... this one has it all! How do you run from something that's coming after you and will not stop? An idea well executed!

    OCTOBER 2016 HALLOWEEN MARATHON

    Excellent
    Ju-On: The Grudge
    The Abominable Dr. Phibes
    Das Cabinet Des Dr. Caligari

    Great
    Evil Dead
    The Babadook
    It Follow

    Good
    When A Stranger Calls (2006)

    Tolerable
    400 Days

    Awful
    Troll 2

I don't think it's rose tinted specs. Those are all great films. I'd add Lethal Weapon, Beverly Hills Cop, Indiana Jones, Mad Max & The Alien series to that list too.
