T2 is one of the greatest action films ever made. Cameron was at his best when he made it.
I remember seeing it at the Odeon Leicester Sq when it came out and it really was one of the most exciting experiences I'd ever had in a cinema!
For me Cameron never achieved these heights again! Titanic, Avatar, The Abyss were all rubbish imho!
Halloween is the best of its ilk by far.
But around Halloween time I do love to watch Halloween H20 (1998)
I think its really underrated. Has a clever witty script and Jamie Lee Curtis just owns the film with a cracking performance.
My hero director Nick Meyer, says that directors always produce their best work when working within restrictions (time, budget etc) and Jaws is one of the best examples of this. With Cameron, I think this is also true, its easy to become self indulgent with bigger budgets (and perhaps egos), I think its the same with pop music, sometimes it goes to their heads (Tusk is a great example),
T2 and Aliens is surely THE Cameron double bill?
4K has changed how I view a film, I am no longer watching a film I am now experiencing a film. My HD TV broke down its not beyond repair though I thought it was a good time to get Ultra HD, it took a day or too for me to adjust such is the level of information. I have Amazon Instant Video and Netflix so have a decent amount of 4K content from them to watch, also YouTube have 4K content some incredible photography on YouTube.
I'd never call any Cameron film 'rubbish'...!
Titanic has an abysmal script but technically it's an incredible achievement.
I really like The Abyss, even if it does go all soppy 'ain't humanity great?' by the end.
Not a very original film but I love, Avatar.
So I feel like doing a Aliens/Predator-athon.
Can somebody tell me which order I have to view them if I want them to see by proper timeline of events.
would this be correct??
Predator
Predator 2
Alien vs Predator
Alien vs Predator Requiem
Prometheus
Alien
Aliens
Alien 3
Alien Resurrection
Predators
Totally spectacular, this type of films is the one that gives me the biggest rush of adrenaline and entertainment. As always, I am shocked by how fast 'Rogue Nation' goes by, it's hard for me to realize that the insanely impressive car/bike chase in Morocco is 80 minutes into the film, the pace is just incredible. Tom Cruise is a living legend, and he brings huge gravitas, charisma and intensity to all his films lately. As for Furious 7, this film is wall-to-wall action, with off-the-charts set pieces (the Mountain road attack, the heist on the Abu Dhabi towers and the climax in LA), which are just pure mindeless entertainment with things exploding all over the place. And I always love seeing this large crew of characters really bonding together - and a welcome addition to the cool as ice Kurt Russell and the badass Jason Statham. Bring on 'Fast 8' next year and 'M:I:6' (soon, I hope)!
I'd miss out everything except
Predator
Alien
Aliens
The rest are worthless to mediocre.
;)
Final Yamato (1983). One of my personal favorite anime movies of all time and an epic conclusion to the original Space Battleship Yamato saga.
Blimey, you've got to see Aliens!!!!!
Then apart from Predator dump the rest.
S'funny, just watched this last night. Really you had to be around and see this in the cinema in the early 80s, it was such a gas. People (mainly girls) were literally screaming in the audience. Have great affection for this (good times) but what came after was a complete pile of shite! Where the f@k did Jason come from? He was a small kid who died it 1957, the sequels made no sense.
@BondJasonBond006
Going by timeline events, I'd say
Predator
Predator 2
Alien vs Predator
Alien vs Predator Requiem
Predators
Prometheus
Alien
Aliens
Alien 3
Alien Resurrection
Also, Dark Horse comics has printed several stories which tie in closely with the Alien / Predator film continuity. If you are interested in reading comics, here's something for you, sir.
The Butler
Layer Cake
Thanks for the tips about the timeline.
Binge-watched Predator, Predator 2, Alien vs Predator
I guess the Predator films can be called classics. The second one was rather silly I must say. The one with Arnie is quite enjoyable and has a great 80's action feel to it.
AVP I absolutely love. Is it trash? Maybe, but it has Lance Henrikson as Bishop, ha! I like what they did with the story, it fits in nicely into the Alien/Predator Universe.
The main lead is fantastic. She is kick-ass cool! The setting below the ice in the Pyramid has a great atmosphere.
The Aliens and Predators look cool and better than ever.
I have no idea if this is liked or disliked in general. I more or less missed out on anything cinematic in the second half of 2004 and first half of 2005. So it was my first viewing.
The German Blu-ray has both versions on it. Naturally I pushed play on the unrated version.
I felt with Prometheous that Scott did not fully commit to a idea its a yoyo film, a muddle of ideas are just thrown at the audience. Time has been kind to Prometheous, Alien: Covenant hopefully will answer some questions and give Prometheous more weight.
Bad scriptwriting.
The Blue Dahlia [1946] - a Veronica lake and Alan Ladd vehicle in which a LT commander returns from the war to find his wife in a seemingly other engagement. She is found dead the next morning and guess who is the most obvious suspect?- A great little noir movie whose ending seems to be somewhat off and that is because the Studio buckled under the Navy's pressure to alter the ending and villain. I am sure that the scriptwriter of the piece did not mind as the script was a source of booze and women, Raymond Chandlers only complete solo script for a movie.
The transporter refueled - Want to spend a 90 minutes with a decent enough actioner with seemingly incredible stunts, beautiful women and some nice violence. You cannot go wrong with this movie and Ed Skrein is a fairly decent follow up for Jason Statham. Not a great movie, none of them were, but a fun way to spend 90 minutes not thinking.
Speaking for myself, i'd take Part 2, 3, The Final Chapter, Jason Lives, The New Blood, Jason Takes Manhattan, Jason Goes To Hell, Jason X, Freddy vs Jason and the 2009 Reboot over the first film. A New Beginning is best left forgotten.
----
The Entity (1982)
Barbara Hershey's performance has to go down as one of the best (/female) performances in horror.
Baron Blood (1972)
Stylish 70's giallo from one of the masters of the genre, Mario Bava. And having Elke Sommer in a prominent role, certainly doesn't hurt.
Friday The 13th Pt VI: Jason Lives (1986)
It was day 13, after all. I was going to go with my current favourite, The New Blood, but I changed last minute, and went with Jason Lives, one that I don't watch that often.
Delirium (1987)
Another giallo, another Bava, this one from Mario's son Lamberto.
Shocktober 2016
Day 1: Edge Of Sanity (1989)
Day 2: I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)
Day 4: Night Of The Seagulls (1975)
Day 4: Hatchet 2 (2010)
Day 5: The Revenge Of Frankenstein (1958)
Day 6: The Corpse Vanishes (1942)
Day 7: Wilderness (2006)
Day 8: The Strange Case Of Dr Jekyll & Miss Osbourne (1981)
Day 9: Wishmaster (1997)
Day 10: The Haunting (1963)
Day 11: The Entity (1982)
Day 12: Baron Blood (1972)
Day 13: Friday The 13th Pt VI: Jason Lives (1986)
Day 14: Delirium (1987)
Can't argue with that some of the character motivations are stupid, the scene with the characters who go awol and find the snake alien is nonsensical.
