    The Accountant (2016)

What a badass action film. Mix of Bourne Identity (this could be a similar trilogy for Ben Affleck), John Wick (insanely brutal kills) and Equalizer (the night-time setting in a warehouse/big house where Denzel/Affleck brutally destroy a whole squad of goons). Ben Affleck delivers a fantastic performance as the autistic accountant Mr. Wolff, who demonstrates, when shit gets real, a very specific set of skills. From the first big action scene in an apartment building, Affleck shows he is a total badass, a force to be reckoned with. Stunning secondary cast too - JK Simmons, Anna Kendrick, John Bernthal. The film takes a good hour to set the story and the main character, similar to 'Bourne Identity', so if they make a sequel, I hope they go the natural direction and seriously up the action like in 'Bourne Supremacy'. After Denzel as 'The Equalizer' and Keanu as 'John Wick', Affleck as 'The Accountant' is the latest addition in these badass action characters. Can't wait to see more of him in this role.

    John Carpenter's The Thing

At the butt end of Halloween I thought I'd watch this masterpiece.

Still fantastic after all these years and looks amazing on BD

  • BATMAN: Return of the caped crusaders. This starts of as a great nostalgia trip with some great easter eggs, then it develops into something quite brilliant. An absolute must for fans of Batman 66.

Jurassic WorldLooks awesome on my 4k TV.

    Only the Strong
This hilariously cheesy, overly 90's action movie sure brings back memories. I remember my mom taking me to see this waaay back in 1993, when I was only 10!
It reminds me of plot of Dangerous Minds or The Substitute, except with martial arts. In this case, Capoeira, something I had never heard of before this movie.

It stars Mark Dacascos, who is literally what you'd get if you could splice Brandon Lee with Jean Claude Van Damme. I wonder why he wasn't a bigger star? He certainly wasn't bad in this at least, and he's definitely got the moves. I'm afraid todays generation may only know him as the host of 'Iron Chef', lol

    Ratchet & Clank
Honestly, it was disappointing. It was a re imagining of the original game but a watered down Saturday morning cartoon re imagining. It changed they way so many of the characters were it just felt shallow, if your a fan of the games like I am, you're probably not going to like it. Visually it's great but the story is just a lackluster version of the original game without the charm and sass. It also felt meme'd up. I did laugh at a few of the jokes but I was hoping for something a little better. Another problem is, it added a bunch of new characters not even in the original game, I know it ties into the remake of the new game but meh. Oh well. Maybe they are fleshed out better in the new game, I'll have to check it out. The kids will like it though.

I just watched my first ever Bruce Lee film, Fist of Fury (1972) and also finally discovered The Crow (1994).

Loved both of these. Bruce Lee is a total badass, his fighting skills and speed are off the charts. From the first fight in the japanese dojo I knew I was watching something special. As for 'The Crow', this goes straight near the top of my favorite revenge flicks. Great atmosphere and soundtrack, and many brutal kills (I really enjoyed the huge shootout in the villains' HQ near the end of the film).

Better make that two... recommendations for Enter The Dragon. At the very least, it is one of the the best martial arts films.

Enter The Dragon is like a spy film with Bruce Lee as the spy, with lots and lots of martial arts. It's a must-see for a lover of film such as you, @DaltonCraig007. You love Asian cinema with high action, and this film and Bruce Lee are the grandaddies of things like the Raid films.

Also be on the look out for a young Jackie Chan, who plays one of the extras in a key fight sequence.

I can't believe you've not seen that @DaltonCraig007. It's the gold standard in martial arts films imo.

@ClarkDevlin, I can see some comparisons there, a lone man going to an island to face a near-mythic villain, but that's about it for me. There's a lot in there that is really unique. It has elements of everything: mystery, thriller, crime, horror and of course, action adventure.

BATMAN & MR FREEZE SUBZERO 1997

Back in the day I was very happy to get and see a second animated movie, even if this one was made for the small screen.
This might not be nearly as good as MASK OF THE PHANTASM but I like it quite a bit.
The last half hour is awesome with the whole Oil Rig sequence and the thing going down in flames spectacularly. Also I like how Batsy, Robin, Barbara and Mr. Freeze work together in the end to save Nora Fries.

BATMAN BEYOND RETURN OF THE JOKER 2000

Now this is one of my absolute favourites, I love this even more than MASK OF THE PHANTASM
I always was very fond of Batman Beyond, the TV Show and this movie is maybe the best movie directly linked to one of the TV Shows.
This is some seriously gritty stuff, and quite violent too, which at that time was very unusual for DC Animated Universe.
Terry McGinnis who takes over Bruce's role as the Dark Knight is a favourite of mine. I identified with him back then and I wanted BEYOND to go on forever.

BATMAN MYSTERY OF THE BATWOMAN 2003

This I find a rather forgettable affair. I do like the animation which has a very polished feel and it's far from being bad but there's nothing much special to it either.
Linked to the upgraded Batman Animated Series with different style of animation this is my least favourite of the first four animated features.

next on: THE BATMAN vs DRACULA

    My ranking so far:

1 BATMAN BEYOND RETURN OF THE JOKER - bloody great
2 BATMAN MASK OF THE PHANTASM - bloody great
3 BATMAN & MR FREEZE SUBZERO - good
4 BATMAN MYSTERY OF THE BATWOMAN - okish

    Train To Busan 2016

Might post a more indepth review later but my Wife and a friend who came up to Leeds caught the final presentation of The Day of Dead session at The Leeds Film festival last night and WOW!

Take 28 Days Later add the intensity and heart pounding action of The Raid with large dollop of the best disaster movies and you've got this film. Already a box office smash in South Korea and it's easy to see why. We all were just hugely impressed with this movie, a 5 star presentation if I've ever seen one. This is the film that PG 13 vanilla tosh that World War Z wishes it was, beg borrow or steal just get a ticket to see this.

    The Transporter Refueled (2015):

Yes, the one that was released a year ago. My friend was super-hyped about this franchise in the recent few days and couldn't stop talking about it, so I decided to give Refueled yet another view. I liked it, then. But, I like it even more now. All the fuss that was about when the film was heavily criticized was because of the titular character wasn't being played by Jason Statham. Honestly, I don't think Ed Skrein is my favourite Frank Martin. He's the third on my list. But, he does embody the characteristics of what a young Jason Statham (say his late 90s self) would have been today, and Skrein delivers it all too greatly, staying true to the film character without derailing it like the television series version did a bit (which isn't a bad thing by all means, just different). The action is great, beautifully directed by Camille Delamarre, and the supporting characters are terrific, as well as Ray Stevenson playing Frank Martin's father namesake, a former British spy, with great chemistry between both the actors being father and son. And Loan Chabanol, the lead lady... Wow... Worth going crazy for. It's a film that's a lot better than the third installment in the series and once you put the biased side away from yourself, you will enjoy this movie very much. I am more than looking forward to the sequel.

My only complaint is Ed Skrein's tight suit that makes it look like a womenswear. Seriously, get back to using proper suits. The same complaint I have for the Daniel Craig suits.

I love Transporter Refueled (as I love Transporter The Series).

    @ClarkDevlin

Ed Skrein is great in the role and a year ago I dared to say that he looked quite Bondian in many scenes and got reprimanded here :))

Seriously, that guy knows how to kick ass, no wonder as he is an accomplished sportsman in private.

I don't see him as Bond, though. The same reason I don't see Tom Hardy or Jason Statham as Bond, even though I love all the three as action stars. They're just not right for the role...

Chris Vance (The Series) on the other hand... Well, that's Bond. :D

Past few days I've been a little marathon of non-stop action films. So far I've seen Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation (2015), The Bourne Supremacy (2004), Taken (2008), Fast Five (2011), Safe House (2012), Rambo 4 (2008), Hardcore Henry (2016) and Shoot Em' Up (2007). Trying to cover at least 1 film from a particular action star. I don't know how many people I've seen get killed in these films, but it feels like an entire country has been decimated in this marathon already.

    PROMETHEUS
    ALIEN
    ALIENS

Ridley Scott is my favourite living director (and Tim Burton).

So there is no surprise that I love his movies.

Prometheus was a dream come true for me and I wholeheartedly love it. It is No 3 in my ranking after Alien and Aliens.

Alien, well nothing can be said that hasn't been said before. If there ever was a Sci-Fi-Horror classic then it's this.

Aliens is an entirely different movie than Alien, but yet, it's all so familiar thanks to the genius of Mr. Cameron who has put out one masterpiece after another up to T2.

Some things I noticed this time:

The acting: I think this may be very underrated. Because really everybody is doing a fantastic acting job. You believe everything that is said and done, and those actors had to be at the top of their game for sure.

I had to look it up and was very pleasantly surprise to see that Sigourney Weaver in fact was nominated for best actress (Academy Award). WOW, how very deserved!!

This movie is a true sci-fi classic and it holds up extremely well after 30 years. All the special effects are great and the Aliens couldn't look more real today, although they would be made with CGI for sure.

I will watch Alien 3 and Alien 4 as well. It will conclude my Pretador/Alien-athon which included all the films.
