Typically happens this way. The main issue I had was all the changes felt neutral or lesser to me. And Emma Watson gave a pretty stiff lead performance.
Why would people hate the original? It's great.
I usually never turn off movies, but this one i just had to turn off. Lost all interest after 30 mins and turned it off after 45 minutes. Abysmal movie.
a fantastic and horrible film at the same time... with out giving to much away Hiddleston and Larson story is fantastic however Jackson's story had to many elements that made me squirm

I was in the mood for something exceptional. This hit the spot, as it has every time I've had the privilege to view it. My favourite film in this genre since SF, it's just great adrenaline boosting fun from start to finish. Rebecca Ferguson's Ilsa Faust remains my favourite Bond girl (who's not really a Bond girl) since CR's Vesper Lynd. All the action sequences are superbly executed, but my favourite is the bike chase which is very well done. I can't wait for what Cruise and Co. have planned for us next year. Bring it on!
I have always hated them all.
@bondjames I know you really don't like Ryan Reynolds as an actor, but I think this will make you laugh:
LIFE (2017)
Not bad. Not bad at all. It's no Alien, but it's better than some of the other space creature films that have come out over the recent years. Sure, it's predictable, and some characters do inexplicably idiotic things, but there are enough seat of your pants thrills to keep it interesting throughout the run time. I wasn't bored for one second, and was actually quite frightened by the squiggly alien thing. Jake Gyllenhaal always delivers, and Rebecca Ferguson is a plus. So despite Ryan Reynolds involvement, I recommend this film. Just don't expect anything meaningful or philosophical about 'Life'. This is strictly for the scares.
@FoxRox, in this crazy world of remakes, reboots and sequels to movies that originally came out twenty years prior to them, I honestly can't believe we have yet to see Luc Besson direct Natalie Portman as a grown up Mathilda in a Leon sequel. Mathilda would be a trained killer who, just like Leon, comes upon a child she feels the need to protect and shelter from the dangers of the world. I think that is a sequel I would actually approve of, because the idea and theme of it would be a nice mirror to the original. The sad thing is I think Besson has grown away from thoughtful filmmaking and just makes choppily edited action fare now.
It could potentially work so long as it was carefully done. Perhaps one day we'll see a sequel - or even a remake (less certain about that one). The original is definitely a winner in my book.
Love that film! Must have another look at it as I haven't seen it in years.
One of Peckinpah's best films. And Warren Oates is as usual excellent.
What a super badass film! It looked visually stunning, I've rarely seen a sci-fi actioner looking this slick, and the soundtrack was absolutely fantastic (composed by Clint Mansell ('Moon') and Lorn Bafle ('13 Hours')). The action scenes, despite the PG-13 rating, were very intense and came very frequently, so no time to breathe. Scarlett Johanssen was very badass as the main heroine, but for me the real deal was seeing Takeshi 'Beat' Kitano, one of my favorite actors from Asia. Final note: the body count was quite high, and that's what I look for in action flicks.
Destruction too. ;)
- all the GITS animated films, both theatrical and made-for-video
- all the GITS television series
- all the manga stuff
I love GITS! It's my second favourite anime product besides AKIRA. Tomorrow, I'm going to the theatre for ScarJo as "the Major". I hope I'll return from it as thrilled as you seem to be. :)
I literally cannot wait.
It's impossible to make a commercially feasible adaptation of the cyberpunk anime classic; I'll just be happy if it honors the source material a lot more than say the Max Payne adaptation. ;-)
Two great films! Nice!
