The Pirates of Blood River (1962), starring Christopher Lee.
If you like the bleak aesthetic of the '70s, this film will do it for you.
Casino Royale 1954 and Journey live greatest hits
54 is what it is you either love it for the oddity it is or you hate it for what it’s not
Journey live is an interesting mix of live and music videos and for those who love awkward music videos check out separate ways trust me
Unsure what franchises I will be doing this year any suggestions

Cronenberg has always been a favourite director of mine. I like Rabid a lot but i prefer his earlier film, Shivers
Both films have that 'bleak aesthetic of the '70s' but Shivers has more black humour. I also like the fact it all takes place in one location.
One of my first experiences watching Hitchcock, The Birds still does it for me. It's not always mentioned among the likes of North by Northwest, Vertigo or Rear Window, but it's still up there among his best, IMO. A fantastic film.
Gunn (1967)
A pretty bad quality upload on Youtube aside, I still enjoyed this one. Fun crime flick.
It was ok not the best Star Wars not the worst ..... overall I would put it in the middle

Watched the old Yuletide perennial classic in color for the first time on New Year's Eve
and
this morning, this Hopalong Cassidy grade B western with an above average plot for the genre and a more involving story than I expected. Also featured Derek Flint's boss Mr. Cramden(Lee J. Cobb) in a supporting role as a banker.
I have seen one Hopalong Cassidy movie, in the cinema around 1981, but don t remember the title. I went out of curiosity, as I knew the classic comic strip.
A deliciously violent Japanese classic. Imagine Sergio Leone filming the final chapter of Kill Bill Vol.1 in the '70s, except better.
For an adaptation of a classic I found myself wanting.. look I am well aware that as a white straight male Little women is not made for me neither the book nor the film but looking at it from strictly a writing and directing standpoint there were issues that I had in the way the film presents itself spoilers btw...
1. the time jumping was confusing (they only have one moment of 7 years earlier the rest the viewer is supposed to guess)
2. Why am as the green dress presented as a great source of drama only to be resolved in a matter of seconds
3. Emma Watson fries by god does she try but ehhh she feels out of place and far too modern same is true for the actor who played the father
4. The film dragged in places again I can enjoy a slow burn and even a drama but there has to be some stakes and some intrigue
5. Jo’s speech about how women are the best and can do amazing things just feels tacked on for 2019’s audiences (or even 2020’s audiences) if it was part of the original book so be it I honestly don’t know but it feels out of place
6. Laurie is a scumbag
7. Why on earth does Amy complain about being Jo’s sloppy seconds only to then be like actually I am good with that
8. How and why does Laurie and Amy fall in love I am sure the book gives more interest in that but in the film it’s literally
”paint me” Laurie
“Ok well now I love you” Amy
“Oh well I no longer love your sister only you”Laurie
Uhm what did I fall asleep or something
On the positives the other sisters do amazing as does Laurie Dern (whom for some reason I thought was dead or retired) the score was great and there is a good film in there I would just edit a few things plus it didn’t need to be 2.15 hours
Overall weak recommend

Huh?
Oliver Twist 1948 As was the case with David Lean's earlier adaption of Dickens (Great Expectations), this superb film is for me the superior version and a Masterpiece.
I have fond memories of the musical Oliver! (a genre I generally don't like!) As it was a film from my childhood, particularly Christmas.
But David Leans version is superb. Tremendous cast, and stunning settings, epic filmmaking! A masterpiece indeed!
From my research, it's a variation of the old "Phantom Hitchhiker" urban legend. More information here :

A ghost popped up and asked to borrow 20 bucks
In the last few months I’ve jumped ship from preferring the sequels to preferring the prequels. They may have more flaws collectively, but also far more intrigue and purpose IMO. Also much better action and music IMO (not to say the sequels have bad music, but Williams did much better work on the first 6 episodes).
I am not a fan of musicals either though Oliver! is one I have sat through, the cast are excellent.
David Lean has to be mentioned in the same breath as Kubrick, Hitchcock and Spielberg. Lean's film are as cinematic as it gets, I have several of his Masterpieces.
I forgot how poor this was, a million miles from the original trilogy in quality. This film is only for die hard Palmer fans.
Have to say I really enjoyed the hole spectacle. Loved the very dark nature of the Emperor and the Sith. When I look back at the 9 films as a whole? I see a story more about the rise and fall of an Emperor and his Galactic Empire, than the Skywalker family.
Well, JJ Abrams could never undo the mistakes made in TLJ. But let's start with the positives:
- It looks fantastic
- Most cameos are pretty sweet (Especially Jodie Comer & John Williams, and most of the voices at the end too)
- It's always a pleasure to see McDiarmid as Palpatine, even though his appearance makes Anakin's sacrifice a bit pointless
- Luke's role is what it should've been in TLJ
- The annoying fat Asian girl is barely in it
- And of course: Godspeed, Carrie Fisher.
But helas, it's still a pretty weak movie:
- Full of bad dialogue
- The opening with Ben meeting The Emperor makes sense, but why not showing him entering his lair immediately instead of letting him kill some random dudes first?
- Not once did I laugh with the "jokes"
- What's with the bickering between Finn & Poe?
- Why having Calrissian if you give him like 4 seconds screentime?
- Daisy Ridley looks the part, but acts extremely wooden. Is she the female Jim Caviezel? Only time will tell
All in all, I hope they won't make any "true "sequels in the next 3-5 years.
Yes ;-)
