Despite enjoying the recent T.V. series, it doesn't come anywhere near this marvellous thriller depicting Harry Palmer, described by star Michael Caine as "a spy with glasses and no money," on the trail of a missing scientist! Opening with maestro John Barrys memorable score, Caine is fantastic as the wisecracking, down at heel Palmer, Sidney J. Furies direction is a bit tricksy, but still gripping, the two sequels are worth a watch too. Great late night viewing!
I watched it last night. I feel the same way.
Thanks mate!
An excellent watch indeed, I’m quite fond of Funeral in Berlin as well. Then again, a Berlin setting during the Cold War is always a big plus for me.
Being a fan of the genre I will buy it, I bought the first film. It does have rewatch value with what happens, despite solving the mystery almost immediately..
I’ve always found the success of Avatar baffling; in virtually every age group, I have yet to find someone who is a huge fan .I love epic sci fi , fantasy films Avatar it did nothing for me .
According to imdb Avatar made nearly $3billion which is amazing.
I haven't seen it yet and am in no hurry to see it. Maybe one day ?
THE IPCRESS FILE (1965)
I think this film is a waste of time. So boring. A Snorfest.
Similar to The Spy Who Came in from the Cold 1965
Cashing in on the MEGA success of the bond films.
It made nearly 2 billion close to release and later nearly 3 billion after re-release. I also don't know who watches these movies. Nobody I know has seen it, or is going to see it.
Never felt like they were trying to cash in on Bond like for instance Our Man Flint.
It’s quite different from Bond and I like both. I prefer Bond, or at least my favourite Bond films, but for the sake of variety I can appreciate other, perhaps more sober, spy films too.
+1
+2. And neither is a snorefest.
I thought it was Cameron’s best film since T2. But if folks hated the first Avatar, I doubt the second one will change their minds.
Well, I watched 'Where Eagles Dare', with Richard Burton leading a crack team on a mission, and here he is again leading a group of mercenaries to rescue a deposed African leader. Great cast, Richard Harris, Hardy Kruger, Stewart Granger as the evil banker ( is there any other kind?) funding the mission and a motley group of British actors like Jack Watson and Kenneth Griffith. And of course our Rog is in there too, and he has brought a group of Bond alumni with him, like John Glen, Bob Simmons and even Maurice Binder does the titles ( with a nice theme song from Joan Armatrading!) Andrew McLaglen directs and the action is well staged and bloody, the climax is particularly well done and quite tense! As a footnote,I have watched this movie quite a number of times, but I just realised the mission is staged at Christmas!!
Watched the film at my local cinema earlier this Christmas. Like the first one I found the visuals good, but the film itself to be an overlong, boring average (at best) fantasy film.

The Handmaid's Tale S3 (2017) 8.0. Moost violence season so far and does not help that after the second season i wait a bit to long witch watching the already record 3th season what made i must wacht 2 episode's each time (21 December 2021 - 07 February 2022)
S.W.A.T. Season 4 (2017) Season 3 stil remain as best season, but this was very good too. So far Season 5 wil not be that great as those two.
The Good Doctor Season 4 (2017) 8.0. First couple of episodes include Corona and possible stil have his effect on 5th season. Like a chacter is gone and return in 17th episode. I hope the Season 6 wil be better, mabey there should consider to quite with S7. The lead actor sometimes look like or filming this in middle of making another movie.
Killing Eve Season 4 (2018) 8.0. Way better then with to much repeated/boring season 3 and very happy with the end.
CSI Season 16 aka CSI Vegas (2021) 8.0.
De verschrikkelijke jaren tachtig (2022) 9.0. Dutch 8 part (mini) tv series with very good plot twist.
The Handmaid's Tale Season 4 (2017) Watched between 07 September 2022 - 02 November 2022.
The Last Ship Season 5 (2014) How there dealing with this show on tv was a mess, that already started in first place with let us waiting very long. So long you not expect it to return. Then take longer breaks between episodes and with first view and second view there vergot the 9th episode. This made i wachted 6&7 episode on 10 October but mist wait 20 days for 8th episode.. 7.0. Overall season was not bad, but one S4 clifhanger moment not contuned in final season. Mabey it was something whant to use for a 6th season.
This has cropped up on Star Disney so I took the opportunity to see this in HD as it isn't available on physical media.
Once again confirms James Cameron as one of the greatest action directors. So many fantastic set pieces. And typical of Cameron, blows you away with an amazing action sequence and then raises his game with an even better one! The stunt on the Keys bridge is probably my favourite of all time.
Although in Hi-def it's more noticeable when Arnie is being doubled by a stuntman. And it's a lot 😁
A hugely enjoyable viewing though and this time I really noticed how good Brad Fiedel's score is.
I'm not very big on this one. To me, it marks the beginning of Cameron's refusal to tell good stories first and throw in the proper effects second. The score is, indeed, very good and both Arnolds play their parts very well. But the two storylines crush each other under their respective weights and the film can barely hold my attention. I also think that the comedy renders the action less spectacular than it could have been. Overall, I park this film below both Terminators, Aliens, and The Abyss.
Oh I've skipped the middle section many times. It's not that funny. I actually think it's horribly sexist during some of those parts. But when the film is an Arnie action movie it's pretty great.
Magic 1978 Directed by Richard Attenborough. This film alluded me all these years only today did I know it existed. Its a pretty good psychological thriller, worth the watch for Hopkins performance in a unsettling duel role. The film has some very sinister moments that are very effective
It was on T.V. the other night. Haven't watched it in years, all I remember was that Hopkins acting was over the top at times!
The over the top acting suited the character(s), what was slightly jarring is that some of the people around him were not really reacting to obvious psychopathic behavior, more notably Anne Margarete.
