Clooney was not the problem with Batman and Robin; in the right film he would have been a very effective caped crusader.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen it but I remember his scenes with an ailing Alfred being very touching.

I didn't like him in the suit, but perhaps the problem was the suit. Clooney could have been a really good Bruce, that's for sure. He oozed/oozes that rich bachelor charm.

I usually find that Clooney, frustratingly, always looks better, way better, than the performances he delivers… I mean he has classic Hollywood looks, but I find he doesn’t have the tools to deliver on these looks.

However, in Out of Sight, I thought his charisma and execution of Jack was beautifully on point and was as good as he was good-looking, lol! I adore the film, and his performance, as much now as I did back when it was released (26 years ago ?!?!?).

When he was cast as Batman, I got excited as I thought he looked like a playboy bachelor and this would be right up his alley… But then I was crushingly disappointed in his work, and highly annoyed by the film. Right after the film ended, I turned to my future wife and apologized, 😂.

(One can imagine that about a year later, when Out of Sight was released, and I wanted to see it, my wife-to-be wanted to make a date to skip the film. Luckily she succumbed to my charms (aka my nagging), and we both had a great time)…

    Oh wow.

I know that the entire industry is in this state of serious contraction right now. It’s unlike anything I’ve experienced and it’s pretty volatile.

And IATSE is threatening a strike and if that happens, that will be another shut down.

Honestly, we’ve never seen anything like a worldwide pandemic… that once that calmed led to two strikes, and now a third strike is being dangled over the heads…

    Wow.

    Interesting times…

Why they say one doesn’t affect the other, I wonder if the launching of the Gunn universe is a consideration?

Honestly, I’d take The Batman Part 2 over a James Gunn DC universe or whatever. But hey, it’ll come out when it comes out. May even mean a 2026 with both a Batman and Bond movie (potentially anyway).

@talos7 … ever since Gunn’s taken over, I won’t trust we will see The Batman 2 until it’s actually in cinemas.

I just have always had a bad feeling about two Batmans running around…

It would be cool if they just did it. Two different Batman movies with another star, in the same month! I would call that bold.

There’s no way they’ll abandon ship on Reeves’ Batverse. They’d be a fools to even consider it.

I agree @DarthDimi , and I hope so @Denbigh … But something’s rubbed me the wrong way since Gunn took over.

I don’t know what it is.

He has said the right things and the two Batmen can co-exit, but I just haven’t bought what he’s selling. I get the feeling that this isn’t ideal, and now, the way business has been going, they could always claim that slates have been cut due to lack of financing.

On the other hand, that decision would also be the fastest way to causing a revolt.

I’ve just always felt uneasy about Gunn’s take over and The Batman’s continued adventures….

Reminds me of Ridley Scott snuffing out the alternate timeline Aliens film that would have featured Ripley , Hicks and Newt. I really would have liked to have seen that; the concept art was spectacular.

Yes!! That may be the thing lingering in the back of my head.

And you and me both, @talos7 … what a missed opportunity…

More rotten news. At least like Bond, Batman is a spoilt franchise with tons of amazing content to revisit. Playing the Arkham games myself now and close to marathoning the classic animated series.

I'd honestly suggest to Gunn that he explores other avenues first, like he's doing with Superman and also take his time. The DCEU fell apart for many reasons but one of those was down to rushing into the Justice League. Let Matt Reeves explore what he wants to explore in the Batverse, and Gunn can explore elsewhere. So many avenues of DC are being unexplored because of the constant reshuffle.

Again 4 years (TDK-TDKR) way long, inspecialy of tone of the movie going to be simalar. Even 3 years between Bourne 2 and 3 was to long.

Not much left for 2025 for fight second place at boxoffice. Mi8, How To Train Your Dragon (Jurassic World 4) if Avatar 3 wil not get another delay. Ballerina, Greenland 2.

For 2026 we have then The Batman 2, Mario 2 and mabey Bond 26.

I really can’t tell how well Gunn’s DC will fare. Like I said it’s just not something I’m excited about (I certainly don’t think it’ll capture the magic of the Batman, Superman and Justice League animated series I watched as a kid, and if anything it was The Batman for me which came across as more fresh and exciting).

We'll just have to wait and see. The good thing about DC stuff is that you can take so many different approaches and they could all work. We haven't yet had a taste of a James Gunn DC project, other than his TSS. He may surprise us yet.

The animated series (plural) should be treasured by us all. Groundbreaking, hauntingly beautiful, and an inspiration to my generation... I have nothing but profound admiration for what was achieved then. But, these series are their own thing, and I doubt that films will ever be able to capture that specific magic. Maybe we shouldn't want that either; let TAS be TAS.

The Batman worked very well for me. It's probably the closest we've ever come to 'Detective Batman' on the big screen. Gunn's projects will probably be very different. And isn't that cool? What we have for lunch is different from what we'll have for dinner. Let one be a really good sandwich, let the other be special 'cuisine'. I'm optimistic that these separate series can coexist without competing with each other.

Rumors for The Batman Part II (from Reddit) take with a pinch of salt:

"The script isn’t done yet (which is common knowledge) but plot details have been floating around the DC offices and I found some out:"

The movie will focus on the trial of the Riddler as he’s being prosecuted by the new DA Harvey Dent (which is funny since we’re getting a new Harvey in Joker 2 also). Harvey stays Harvey though, no Two-Face in this movie.

Hush is the villain. Tommy Elliot runs a charity that’s rebuilding Gotham after the flood- think Lincoln March in the New 52 and Elliot from the comics without the childhood friends stuff.

Hush manipulates Clayface (who's gonna be introduced in Penguin) into working for him and he takes Bruce's identity later on to mess with his life.

Hush is less of a serial killer and he's more of a psychopathic rival vigilante, and the rise of hatred in criminals has risen because of the Riddler.

Robin is in the movie and he and Alfred end up saving Bruce from being killed by Hush near the end of the 2nd act.

I hope this is honestly true. However, I hope Robin gets time in his costume (unlike Batman Forever). Also, I hope Clayface stays a shape-shifter, as it feels like the character deserves this version should be in cinema the most. At least (hopefully) Batman will finally be adapting some new characters (particularly villains). They're doing that better than Superman is. When I read that Matt Reeves was on the shortlist to direct Man of Steel, I think we missed an opportunity. Zack Snyder does deserve a bit of blame for the DCEU failing. He didn't adapt many new characters, from the comics, and that hurt the films, among a few other things.

As for James Gunn, I just hope he doesn't overuse his goofy humor, and cast Chris Pratt somewhere. I'm still nervous that his Superman will just Lex again, even with The Authority as other villains.

While I don't think anything supernatural or 'shapeshifting' would suit the Reeves' Batman world, all of that sounds, quite frankly, really cool, whether it's the case or not. It fits well into the themes of Batman losing his identity (figuratively and literally) in the first film and expands upon what happened in the last one.

I thought I was the only one. I'm not thrilled by James Gunn's upcoming DC universe. I hope it turns out well, though. Because if DC's live-action features doesn't grab full attention again, DC would not be taken seriously for a long time.. and that would really hurt...because, I'm a DC fan.

    More Reddit rumors:

Details on the ‘Clayface’ film from TRAILBLAZER101 Newsletter
    From the Newsletter:

I also want to take some time to note what may seem like an obvious choice to some: that the Clayface film that filmmaker Mike Flanagan and his Intrepid Pictures producing partner Trevor Macy pitched to Gunn and his DC Studios co-chief Peter Safran last March has been in development for a while now, as Production Weekly listed it in an August 2023 issue. While the Hollywood strikes were still ongoing at that point, it is likely a deal was signed before the writers strike began in May, as the listing notes that Flanagan is set to write and direct the film through Intrepid Pictures with Gunn and The Batman helmer Matt Reeves listed as producers; Reeves’ company 6th & Idaho is also listed among the studios.

Based on the production listing, it appears that Flanagan’s film is being developed to work in tandem with Reeves’ shared universe spinning out from The Batman. Reeves has been developing a number of film and TV series spin-offs for other Batman universe characters, with Clayface listed as one of them and being expected to appear as an antagonist in The Batman - Part II, which I shared in my first issue was set to begin filming in August 2024; that pic has since been delayed a year to October 2, 2026, leaving more time for Reeves and co. to work on finalizing and perfecting their plans (ala the COVID shutdown of the first film) and distance it from Gunn’s Superman film, resulting in filming reportedly being delayed until next year at the earliest. There is no indication if the Clayface pic would be set before or after Part II, though if The Penguin (another standalone villain story) and reports of this film not having the Clayface character be a real villain and more of a protagonist are any indicator, it could seem that this tragic character, who is known for taking on different forms, may be gaining a new identity after the events of Part II in one way or another.

I would love to see this get made. After the Rogue Squadron surprise announcement today, there may be a true chance for Mike Flanagan to have this made.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see! Maybe more than one. Basil Karlo, Matt Hagen (DCAU’s version), Preston Payne and Sondra Fuller (aka Lady Clay) are the most used ones. All together, they are known as the Mud Pack. I’d be ok with them all teaming up. I hope DC and WB does more villain alternate origin movies, the material is there. I trust Mike Flanagan, he’d be a good name for a comic book villain movie.

Sounds like they truly haven’t committed to Batman: The Brave and the Bold. I could take them or leave them. With the story, it’s time for Damian Wayne as Robin to get some cinematic love. Also, a more creative version of his mom: Talia al Ghul. I sometimes wish that some of the last Batman (and especially Superman) movies had Paul Dini as a writer.

In Joker: Folie à Deux, I'm willing to bet that Brendan Gleeson is Dr. Hugo Strange. Or that Hugo Strange is going to be in the movie. With Arkham Asylum being so focused apparently, I won't be surprised if we see him. I still think we may see other villains as well. I hope that DC Comics and WB makes more of these villain movies. They can't be worse than the Sony Spider-Verse.

    THE PENGUIN Trailer (NEW 2024)

I'm honestly kind of getting tired of The Penguin in Batman media. He's the equivalent of General Zod with Superman. There are more supervillains/mob villains that Gotham City has to offer.

To be fair, in live-action film material in the past 50 years, we've seen him twice: once in '92, once in '22. The Penguin didn't make an appearance in the Nolan or Snyder films. Animation, comics and games are different things.

I don't think the Penguin has been over used to be fair, the Joker on the other hand yes.
