Maybe Batman took its cue from Blofeld's credit in From Russia With Love?
What's the over-under on this shooting in the UK, given that the new Batman movie is also filming there and the showrunner is a British man and who has never made a tv program outside Britain before?
I watched it last night. Lots of fun, and it's not just a Kung Fu film homage: I counted at least 7 Bond references!
Take with a grain of salt, but I could see it happening.
Christopher Drake has great output with DC Animation, the Superman/Batman: Public Enemies and All-Star Superman scores are fantastic, I often listen to them in isolation.
Exactly!!! @Fire_and_Ice_Returns :)>- I do that as well. Drake is really DC's Top animation Composer. And his score for the Wonder Woman animation is really good as well....those female ethereal vocals are so good.
Drake's scores are in heavy rotation here whenever I'm reading Batman comics. I find them infinitely re-usable as mood setters and musical undercurrents for a night of reading.
Is that the most recent Wonder Woman animated movie, i still have not watched that one.
When I read the graphic novels I have never considered playing any of the scores in the background, it would certainly help fuel the imagination further.
Sounds great! :D I'll try that. The one I usually do, is listening to Bond scores while reading a Bond Novel, Comic or literary Bond. Like for example, listening to Arnold's CR score, as I read Fleming's CR....in that order for the rest as well :)
It better be. That one is great. That recent "Bloodlines" film, by contrast, felt like an uninspired rehash of things that worked in the live-action film combined with a fairly uninteresting side-story. That film oughtn't to be mentioned at all.
The Drake score for the 2009 movie is another delicious piece of work. The first track, some 10 minutes long, kicks ass. It has awesome action beats, ethereal vocals (as @GadgetMan correctly points out) and powerful "hero" music. I love that film so much, I even read the novelization and yes, Drake's sore was always there with me, playing in the background.
I really wish his score for the underrated Batman: Year One could be found in isolation, but that one was never released. I believe there was a petition for its release at some point but those usually amount to nothing.
Yeah. Perfect score by Drake it is @DarthDimi :)>-
And yes, his Batman: Year One score is another one we're expecting to be released someday. But just like you rightly said, Hopes are usually thin in such situations. But all we can do is hope for that solid score to be released :)
I wish someone would pick him up for a serious live-action horror or action flick. See, the thing about Drake is that even without a full orchestra, he can "synth" his way out of any ordeal, it seems. Plus, I'm getting a lot of Carpenter vibes off his TDKR score, and some Zimmer too. The man is in control of melody and percussion, a rare talent in these musically "monotone" days. And just imagine what he could do with a full orchestra...
Think about Michael Giacchino, who started out in video game music and worked his way firmly up the ladder, ultimately doing M:I, Star Wars, Star Trek and other projects. I'm sure Drake could get there too. What's more, is that his brilliant TDKR score was performed with very little money, and pretty much all by himself. Any artist capable of pulling something like this off for a nickel and a dime is someone you might want to give a film to score.
I'm willing to step up my appreciation for Drake even more. His Batman "theme", prominently featured in TDKR but also heard in Gotham Knight for example, though simple, is incredibly effective. Then again, between Elfman's theme, Walker's theme and Zimmer's two-note theme, Drake's Batman theme has quickly become one of my absolute favourites. I'd love to hear it again, and why not in a live-action film? So far, it's only been a synth track. Now imagine a full orchestra blasting out this powerful, fist-pumping hero moment like a boss! Yeah, heaven...
If they go through with this, I sincerely hope they spend more time and money on the animation than they currently do with the Direct to DVD movies.
Exactly! @DarthDimi Drake is just so good and his Batman theme is really, really infectious. It's still a wonder why he isn't that mainstream as a composer. But maybe, he isn't far away from it and hopefully, he scores a big-budget live-action action film soon.
Excellent point! It's looking cheaper by the minute.

I know that DC often works with Japanese and Korean animators, but they're not getting the quality that Japanese films -- granted, many of which are released theatrically -- are getting. Still, I wish they'd try better and perhaps invest a little more money in the animation.
Exactly. Not to mention that one of the things which set the animated series apart from pretty much all of its contemporaries was the extremely lavish animation and music budget.
Even animation on the same budget level as the current DC direct to DVD movies can still have interesting looking designs, shots, and backgrounds, but these don't, for the most part.
as long as Joker is not the villain I am down... maybe a villain that is under utelized Black Mask or MadHatter or clayface?
Yeah, I agree @DarthDimi Conroy, Hamill, Drake and Oliva would be the perfect combo. Maybe something akin to Batman: Mask of the Phantasm or better. Although, I really enjoyed Batman: Gotham by Gaslight....I know it feels like Sherlock Holmes because of the Victorian backdrop, but I really enjoyed it. I think we simply need the thriller/suspense elements back in Batman animations.
Absolutely.
In fact... I'd love more of those Elsewords adaptations, like the Batman & Dracula trilogy or Mignola's delicious, Lovecraftian Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham.
Yeah. Great titles. Oh, you meant the Elseworlds(must be a slight typo)....Yeah, great titles as well. Would really need an intelligent director, doing a non-linear twist with a linear purpose to properly unfold these Batman adaptations on screen, but it's still very possible.
That could work. After all, they did something much like it with Mask of the Phantasm so nothing is stopping them from doing it again.
