The effects were superb for both films, Voyage home because it was earth bound no doubt allowed for greater effects as there were not a great deal of them.
I always felt they spread themselves thin with the Next Gen movies, too many average effects. Less is more in Trek and less often equates to better, not including Final Frontier
;))
I agree, the USS Enterprise as shown in the motion picture was pure starship porn as rarely seen on the big screen.

This makes me happy. I'd love to see him in a Trek film again. (May it erase Generations from the Canon.)
:))
Agree CGI does not come close to the best model work.

William Shatner has been asked to appear in Star Trek 3 (2016)

Indeed and its demise when I saw in it the cinema upon its release was one of devastation for me, like an old friend passed away. To be honest it did me more than Spocks dead in the previous one.
Just watched that scene, the Enterprise ablaze entering the atmosphere of Genesis in poetic. Kirk was devastated at sacrificing Enterprise, though he once again turned death into a fighting chance to live.
^:)^
the golden era of Star Trek for me, Kirk and Co,
Agree! City on the edge of forever encapsulates everything great about that era.
Great quality in this work.

Just read this on IMDB could be a blessing, Edger Wright is a intriguing choice and from the work I have seen would do something if anything inventive with the next film. Pegg may get a bigger role
;)
I don't mind the last 2 trek films as at the very least its keeping trek going, so many elements are repeated in both films
:))
Other characters do need to come to the fore, totally agree. Wright the more I think about it would be a inspired choice if not too restricted.
Excellent news. Star Trek's 50th anniversary deserves a real director. Not a writer who politicked his way to the gig and gets into arguments with fans on twitter. It might be a long shot but Brad Bird would make a good choice. He followed JJ Abrams with Mission: Impossible and did a good job with that. He could do the same with Star Trek.
I wouldn't be crazy about Wright. I have a feeling it've have too much comedy and quirkiness to it.
What worked in the 60s wouldn't necessarily work today. Personally I thought some of the camp in the TOS was cringe-worthy and takes away from the experience rather than giving to it. I'm not saying I want the dead seriousness of TNG but a nice balance would be preferential. This is coming from someone who really enjoyed Abrams' first film.
Well I'm not saying it has to be a hokey comedy, but what Into Darkness was really lacking was some humor. It was so dark it wasn't Star Trek anymore. The opening 10 minutes of the film were the best. What I would like for the sequel is the Kirk, Spock and Bones trio finally coming together.

--> Director: Justin Lin (!!, helmed the last two Fast & Furious films)
--> Producers: J.J. Abrahms & Roberto Orci
--> Premiere date: 8th of July 2016
--> William Shatner returns as Captain Kirk
--> Leonard Nimoy returns as Spock
--> And off course Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and the rest of the "new crew" returns
--> After the Bond franchise, also this franchise celebrates its 50th anniversary
I'm a fan of the Original Series films, but something about bringing back Shatner and Nimoy (particularly Nimoy, who will be making his third appearance in these reboots) smells a little desperate to me.
