Nope I disagree GE re-invigorated the franchise and when Craig took over the franchise was in a healthy stage, it could have easily offered Brosnan a fifth movie.

But indeed both Campbell movies turned out to be the best one for both actors.

I would still say Casino Royale "saved" the franchise from what Die Another Day had left for them. I mean without it, we may have actually gotten the Jinx spin-off.

Ok, between LTK & DAD, which one left the franchise more in Dire Straits?....Coz these are the two films, GE & CR had to Top.

I am sorry DAD delivered a healthy BO and as with any over the top movie it was alwys followed by a smaller movie I would seriously not minded a Brosnan version of FYEO.

It is in the eyes of the Nay-sayers that the 007 with DAD was the franchise in very healthy shape.

Yes, though the series' issues following the release of LTK were actually not all that much to do with the film itself, it was still a far worse time with more unsurety in comparison with the environment post-DAD. Bond didn't need saving after Brosnan, despite his last film being a creative clunker.

I'm not saying Casino Royale saved EON from unhealthy box office or whatever, I'm aware of DAD still being a success, but I am saying that the new direction they took "saved" the franchise from possibly continuing down the style DAD took and bringing out another film that was hated by many fans and non-fans. Also, even just bringing Brosnan in a "darker" movie back may not have had the same success that Casino Royale did.

I'm also not saying that Goldeneye didn't do more for the franchise than Casino Royale, just that they both benefited the franchise in a big way - in my opinion.

I honestly think if Brosnan did a 5th, we might not have recognized the same Bond we saw in DAD. Coz like Moore in FYEO, trying to make up for MR, Brosnan would have gone darker, and no one knows if it would have been successful or not....but part of me think it would have, I think Brosnan was aching for a 5th Bond film, in order to make amends like Craig is doing now with NTTD.

    Brosnan simply wasn't lucky.

I thought this was funny. A guy on Amazon gave CR 1 out of 5 stars, commenting as follows:

    "Movie has no color
Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2020

Movie comes up in black and white.... not color"

Somehow, I feel compelled to know if he's realised "it" already... :p

Interesting video about CR's cinema ratings and cuts.
I'm assuming American members have the UK uncut Bluray version...? 😕

I'm an American and yeah, looks like we have the uncut version, as far as the torture scene goes.

America only just got the uncut version once a 4K release was put on both streaming sites and the UHD disc.

    I would say DAD easily.

But then again I am biased. LTK is one of my top 5 Bond films, and DAD is literally the worst film of all time.

LTK left the series in a questionable state of financial viability, whereas DAD left the series in a questionable state of quality. When LTK underperformed you wondered if Bond’s relevance was over. After DAD you wondered if the Bond films could ever be good again.

That’s a pretty honest assessment. In my eyes, Casino Royale did for Bond what Batman Begins did for the Batman movie series - ditched the excess and went back to basics.

Ditto. LTK is one of my top 10 Bond films, while DAD is flat bottom.

LTK is a film I don't watch enough.
DAD is a film I never want to watch again (which will make my complete Bondathon rewatch in November rather difficult. Dont know if I'll skip it or not.).
  • This video from Netflix articulates so many reasons why CR is fantastic...Even just watching the clips reminds me of how terrific Daniel Craig's performance is in this movie. This video is a must watch!!!!!

Jesus Christ, I’m going to miss Daniel Craig as Bond.

Me too. He made Brosnan look like an actor from a bad episode of The A-Team. He inhabited the part with a depth not seen since Connery. Bond felt real and layered. Imagine Cavill or a TV actor like Aidan Turner trying to follow that. I hope EoN find someone worthy of succeeding Craig.

Now I'm waiting for NTTD with hope that this movie will be as good as CR and SF.

Casino Royale, Living Daylights and GoldenEye - easy.

  • I love this deleted scene and would have loved if it made its way into the final film...Perhaps change the music cue which is way too dramatic coming out of the torture scene. There's something so humbling about seeing the 'Indestructible James Bond' on a hospital bed and looking like he's a goner. He's a very humanistic element and would have undeniably played into the more 'real' tone of the film. Some brilliant acting on display from Craig as well - really showing the younger Bond's more impulsive behaviour (which mirrors his actions in shooting Mollaka and trying to stab Le Chiffre).

God....Remember how well written a character Bond was in CR. I only hope NTTD goes back to these halcyon days.

I do understand why the scene was deleted - in fact, it was 100% the right decision. You already have the shorter scene in the hospital (which is more than enough) and the shot of DC's eyes waking up is more captivating. Plus, the scene that follows with Mathis is basically the EXACT same scene as the one that preceded it. It would have been way too repetitive.

But I just wish Campbell was indulgent enough to have included it nevertheless....
