I don't know how I missed this, but Campbell recently directed an advertisement for Louis Vuitton featuring Lea Seydoux. Despite this somewhat surprising venture into the world of fashion, Campbell has not lost his touch for creating visually stunning content. The advert is gorgeously shot, showcasing Campbell's continued prowess behind the camera.
It's worth noting that Campbell is not slowing down, with two upcoming films slated for release this year. One of these features Daisy Ridley, while the other stars Eva Green.
Considering the prospect of Campbell returning to the James Bond series, there are both advantages and potential drawbacks. On the positive side, Campbell has proven himself capable of revitalising the franchise, having successfully directed two Bond films in the past. If armed with a strong script and paired with a skilled cinematographer like Eigil Bryld (known for his work on 'The Holdovers') who is shooting his film with Daisy Ridley, Campbell could potentially breathe new life into the series.
However, there are concerns about the choice being perceived as safe and somewhat predictable for a reboot. The director has already navigated the Bond universe twice before, and there might be a desire for a fresh and more exciting perspective from EON. Names like Denis Villeneuve and Christopher Nolan have been floated in discussions about the future of Bond, indicating a potential shift by EON towards directors known for their innovative approaches.
Despite some of his more recent films being a bit rubbish, Campbell's track record with Bond speaks for itself. If Eon Productions priorities reliability and a director with a proven ability to deliver engaging action sequences, Campbell could still be a compelling choice. While he may not bring the same level of excitement as a newcomer to the franchise, his experience and familiarity with the Bond world could make him a solid option if the primary goal is to get the film made efficiently.
In conclusion, Martin Campbell's potential return to the James Bond series offers dependability. Whether his appointment would be met with enthusiasm by fans, he is a safe bet. Plus, he's a company man and will listen to EON when it come to the big decisions.
I'd love Campbell back working on Bond, even if it was only to do the screentests for Bond #7 and maybe be a consultant on Bond 26. The man knows Bond
Cinematographer (DOP), Editor and composer are not confirmd yet. But mabey Meheux wil be dop again. But how amazing it wil be if there can get David Arnold as composer.
In The Netherlands and Belgium look like the movie will be released by Belga Home Video, that can mean good news for promotion to get better boxoffice and if that be good for Bluray also. Bluray with bonusmaterial and mabey 7.1 atmos and BD/4K release. There are studio who release Now You See Me 2, John Wick 2, 3, 4 and The Hunger Games movies for Lions Gate. The movie is made by same production company behind Paddington movies and Non Stop with Liam Neeson also released by them with bonusmaterial. But two times there releasing a Bluray with only a trailer and with The Courier (2020) there give it Searchers treatment (no extra's)..
I love Clive Owen but he is a box Office poison.
Anyway, Campbell needs to make a Statham movie. It's funny that this hasn't happened yet.
Daisy Ridley has landed another lead role, this time in action thriller “Dedication” from Martin Campbell (“Casino Royale,” “GoldenEye”), reuniting with the director following their recent feature “Cleaner.”
The film, written by Dan Gordon (“Wyatt Earp,” “The Hurricane”), is launching at the American Film Market, with Highland repping international sales and CAA Media Finance overseeing domestic rights.
“Dedication” follows Major Billie Jean Parker (Ridley), a decorated Marine Corps commander who is relieved of duty after a high-stakes mission in the Philippines results in civilian casualties, despite capturing anarchist leader Omar Romatas. Facing the loss of her career, she visits her dying father, Clyde, a former Marine, who asks her to attend a dedication ceremony for a school building named in his honor. The event takes a deadly turn when Omar Romatas’s vengeful son, Bento, launches an assault, taking hostages. Forced back into combat, Billie Jean sets traps and executes precise strikes to outwit the attackers. Her tactical instincts and ruthless efficiency shift the fight, as she confronts her past and proves her worth in a relentless battle that will define her legacy.
The film is being produced by Gemstone Films Ltd., Phil Hunt (“Tar,” “Talk to Me”), Valentin Dimitrov (“Lionsgate’s “The Hitman’s Bodyguard”), and Sagiv Diamant (“We Die Young”). The film is executive produced by Arianne Fraser and Delphine Perrier for Highland Film Group alongside Gaby Whyte Hart, who also serves as the casting director.
“What a thrill to collaborate with a director of Martin Campbell’s pedigree whose eye for big-scale action was on spectacular display in the Bond franchise,” said Highland Film Group CEO Arianne Fraser. “Daisy Ridley will perfectly embody the multiple facets of a fallen war hero who is forced into combat mode one last time,”
Added Highland COO Delphine Perrier: “It’s fantastic to have Martin and Daisy teaming up again for ‘Dedication’. Martin is the ideal director to bring Dan Gordon’s complex and electrifying script to life. It’s a riveting story loaded with engaging characters and we look forward to introducing this powerful adventure to our global partners.”
Highland Film Group’s current slate also includes Chuck Russell’s horror-thriller “Witchboard”; the action crime thriller “Wardriver” starring Dane DeHaan and Sasha Calle; John Stalberg, Jr.’s Muzzle: “City of Wolves” starring Aaron Eckhart; Allan Ungar’s action-comedy “London Calling” starring Josh Duhamel and Jeremy Ray Taylor; and Joe Carnahan’s survival thriller “Not Without Hope” starring Zachary Levi and Duhamel.
Ridley is repped by CAA and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern and Narrative. Campbell is repped by CAA.
I still hope that Daisy Ridley joins the Bond franchise. She could work in more roles than one. It's also nice to see Martin Campbell keep working at his age. He and Clint Eastwood (among others) prove that age is just a number.
Just released trailer. America release date is next month. Again a movie from Martin Campbell who in The Netherlands/Belgium will be released by The Searchers (The Foreigner, The Protégé, Memory). No Dutch release date yet, but expect Jan/Feb 2025.
Also David Tattersall working on the movie as cinematographer who did Die Another Day and working a lot with Campbell (The Foreigner, The Protégé, Memory).
€35 million budget ($38m).
Looks decent. Not sure about Eva’s accent or the dodgy looking CGI Helicopters.
Trailer sort of washed over me though. No interest in seeing that, I'm afraid.
Oh, yeah...right! The Foreigner was actually good.
Campbell is only as good as the material he’s given. He’s not a filmmaker that elevates with his direction alone. I’d say he’s extremely lucky he was paired with the material he had in GE and CR. With those two films alone Bond fans can always fantasize a timeline where Campbell did more Bond films and they were at the same level.
Well, that places the burden on the writers; not every director need be an auteur. Give a craftsman strong material and the resulting film will likely be successful.
