JJ is an unimaginative director IMO. TFA is decent, but it's disappointing that the producers appear to have the jitters.
A very safe choice indeed. Money in the bank is the first priority, which of course is understandable.
I too hope he doesn't give us something as predictable as TFA. My optimism comes from a belief that he can craft something which captures an uplifting spirit, which is something I think he achieved with TFA despite its other faults.
I would hope that he is aware (how could he not be?) with how dissatisfied people were with the derivative nature of TFA and also STID for that matter. He's going to have to come up with something original this time.
Perhaps he will be inspired by Episode 8, which he has made very positive comments about, and this will give him some new ideas on how to move forward.
Additionally, in current comics (which are considered canon with the movies) it was revealed that Vader actually made his crystal turn red through the Dark Side. People are saying Luke could 'undo' that and end the movie with a brand new WHITE saber.
That second part sounds a bit far fetched to me though.....
I just hope he still has the green one.
It'd be interesting if it were true, though I'd love to know how Luke found Vader's saber in that shaft that led to the Death Star's core. It's only a little more farfetched than someone finding Anakin's saber after Luke lost his hand.

It's been awhile since I've seen ROTJ but did we actually see it fall down to the core or could it have just fallen on the floor next to him?
Do we really need another one? We have two already don't we? I've only bothered with the first because I don't want any more spoilers than that.
I thought it was only the one, but then again, I've only watched one thus far, and have no intention of viewing any more footage. Like I've said in the past, I did that with TFA and it did not disappoint.
Since the internet is the way it is I've already had a few things spoiled for me, like the Porgs. I heard about them but didn't need to see them until I saw the movie. The internet ruined that for me.
I know nothing of the film past what I saw in that teaser trailer, and I hope to keep it that way until December arrives. I'm not dying to find out more about the movie, I'm rather surprised by my patience with it, but I was somehow the same way with TFA and it paid off. It's the best way to see movies anymore, I feel. I can't help myself at times and I end up digging into a film I'm real excited for just a bit too much before release, but the less I seem to know, the better it goes.
I just recently decided to do the same. However I didn't with TFA. I watched every trailer I could. I still enjoyed every minute of that film, and I still do. Like I said earlier, I was so let down by Rogue One that I decided from then on I will only watch the first trailer and nothing else until the movie is released. I've only seen one trailer for TLJ and Blade Runner 2049. I avoid any others at all costs.
It's possible, but Luke did damage the railing when he chopped off Vader's hand.

“More stuff is coming, that’s the nature of the beast,” Johnson wrote on Twitter. “But I fully endorse avoiding everything you can from now till December!”
“I fully endorse this @rianjohnson statement,” wrote Hamill. “AVOID EVERYTHING YOU CAN FROM NOW TILL DECEMBER!!!!!”
I'll be watching it and so be it if it gives more than it should away.
I think the BR 2049 trailer did a great job because it barely gave anything away at all and I went in despite the odd but not essential spoiler coming out none the wiser.
The film was pretty much a mystery to me, whereas TLJ is likely to be more revealing, think after how good depite it not being shot in IMAX 2049 looked I'll be booking TLJ IMAX screening for the Saturday afternoon of the opening weekend for my myself the Wife and a friend of ours who wants to join us.
BR 2049 has set a very high bar for me now and I don't expect however good TLJ to better it, different type of film and I can't imagine it connecting in the same way, not looking for anything too deep just a damn fine Star Wars film.
Just hope despite enjoying TFA that TLJ is a more original film, the vibe I get from Johnson is that it will be but all will be revealed in just over 2 months time.
Me! I am sick of modern trailers, and having everything revealed before I watch the film.
This, again. Check out some 60s trailers. They are practically a resume of the whole movie, ending included.
I believe we did have that conversation. I know I'll be seeing it in theaters within the first week. I don't need to see anything more than what I've already seen in the first trailer and I've even been avoiding that one so I don't remember everything from it. We've been waiting for this movie for about two years, so what's a couple of more months of avoiding spoilers.
