Anyone watched Star Wars: Resistance ? any good ?
    4.9/10 IMDb
    92% Rotten Tomatoes

I've heard "okay" things about it but I have yet to see the series.

Meanwhile, Ep 5 of S2 of The Mandalorian is nearly making me cry. Perfect. And I'm okay with the name, by the way.

EDIT: Ep 6 is another real winner. This series is shaping up to surpass many of the films in terms of quality. Once again, my Star Wars heart quickened the pulse while I was watching, something I haven't felt in a very long time...

John Faverau is a genius. First Iron Man, now this. Give the man a shot at BOND!

There was also Cowboys & Aliens. ;-)

Did he do that too? Lol, talk about hits and misses.

But I agree with the above posters, if the worst that was done by the man who kickstarted the MCU as well as rejuvenated Star Wars was Cowboys and Aliens, then I put my stock in him for sure.

Never been more excited for more Star Wars content than I am right now. I imagine it must have been what people felt after watching A New Hope/Empire Strikes Back to an extent.

Cowboys and Aliens was pretty enjoyable nonsense, all the same.

I believe that Jon Faverau should be given the chance to direct and write a Star Wars movie. Plus Bryce Dallas Howard as well.

I'd love for him to do SW. Not sure about Bond, yet. But I might warm up to the idea.

Didn't love her episode in Season 1, but in Season 2, she did the first episode? Either way I remember loving it and being a bit surprised when I saw her name.

    EDIT: The Heiress, right.

Yeah, it wasn't really that it was bad, it just didn't turn out GREAT, given the talent & set-up.

I’m sure you’re right and there were fun moments, but I just can’t remember a single thing about it personally, which is sort of a cardinal sin IMO.

I remember thinking C&A was alright, but haven’t really seen it beyond that one rental when it hit blu-ray.

Faverau could have been a better choice than JJ and Rian Johnson for the sequels.

Maybe better than Abrams, but I would never replace what Johnson brought with TLJ, which I think is the best since EMPIRE.

I love the variety of opinions regarding the sequel trilogy! I liked the beginning of TFA, didn't love a lot of TLJ (but did like some parts a lot), and didn't really like ROS that much; is there somewhere I can read about your thoughts on The Last Jedi?

Well, short summaries of the ST for me:

TFA - Back in 2015, I enjoyed it but also felt pretty underwhelmed too. At the time I didn't really want a new trilogy that was mainly recreating the OT down to plotting and aesthetics. I'm not the kind of Star Wars fans that gets excited over seeing stuff I already saw in the OT (OOOOH X-WINGS, OOOH A REFERENCE TO SOMETHING I KNOW!) I also wasn't shocked by Han's death, because I had known pretty well that Ford wanted Han to die in JEDI and that doing that in TFA was partly what enticed him to come back. Plus I was just perplexed over the adoration it was getting. I thought it was fine, not as great as hyped.

But over a year later I revisited it and came to enjoy it a lot more for what it is. So much that I pretty much rank it neck and neck with ROTJ. They often switch spots depending on the mood. Heck, they both have rehashes of the Death Star.

TLJ - The best stuff in this film for me is everything regarding the arcs for Luke and Kylo Ren. Seeing Kylo Ren kill his master and assume the role of Supreme Leader was actually one of the things I WANTED to see after TFA. It made the most sense because at some point he needed to realize that he had to surpass his grandfather, and one of the things Vader wanted to do was rule the galaxy but never did. I also appreciate the theme of learning from one's failure and stepping up to make up for it rather than wither away like Luke initially wanted to do. I get the complaints over Luke giving up the way he did, but it's not too out of step for me because he's always been something of a defeatist that needed some kind of push from someone else, whether it was Rey setting an example or Yoda bonking him on the head with his ghost walking stick (and how wonderful it was to see Yoda one last time).

TROS - In a lot of ways any EPISODE IX feels like it was always going to be seriously compromised due to the sad loss of Carrie Fisher, especially given the rushed schedule. In TLJ, it's set up that Kylo Ren couldn't actually commit to kill his mother which made her the key to his eventual redemption. Because of that, we get awkward reused footage inter-cutting with characters explaining what's happening, and Harrison Ford essentially standing in for what should have been a mother/son moment. It doesn't surprise me how lazy this installment seems, because neither the original director or Abrams seemed to figure out a way to crack this nut. I really think Disney should have allowed an extra year for this film in development (of course, COVID would have impacted its release).

The biggest mistake for me was Ben Solo dying. Admittedly, I actually didn't want to see a redemption for Ben Solo for many years because it seemed derivative of Vader, and that it would be interesting to see Kylo Ren take things further than Vader. However, with just the few minutes of Adam Driver was given to play a heroic Ben Solo I was completely turned around on that and sold by his performance. I now wish what happened was that Ben Solo decided to leave the galaxy feeling doesn't deserve to be with Rey and will essentially go off on a lone journey to atone for something he never can. This would have allowed potential future stories involving Ben Solo's travels if that could ever happen. But now it won't, regrettably.

Oh yeah, and Rey being related to Palpatine. I GET what the movie is trying to say, but this was absolutely not necessary. You can still tell a story about a girl trying to find her own identity without being faced with the reality of being related to a former dictator/dark wizard.

All that said, I actually did enjoy this film the time I saw it in theaters (I haven't actually revisited), but given how compromise/rushed it is, it ranks last among the OT and ST. It's mostly carried by the performance of the actors and some nifty adventure sequences. Oh, and despite Palpatine being alive this whole time, it's always a joy to see McDiarmid ham it up.

it has been a long time since i sat down and watched the main nine films (perhaps in 2021 I will go through the star wars films)

    but my current ranking is

    1. Empire Strikes Back
    2. Return of the Jedi
    3. Attack of the clones (yes because of natalie portman's outfit this gets bumped up so sue me)
    4. A new Hope
    5. The phantom Menace
    6. The force Awakens
    7. Revenge of the Sith: I understand they need to put the peices in the right spots for A new hope to happen but where Empire Strikes back is dark but end on a hopeful note there is no hope here and it's kind of depressing)
    8. Rise of Skywalker
    9. Last Jedi

Overall the sequels(7-9) were very poor

Finally got round to watching The Tragedy that was superb, my guess is...
Grogu either connected with Luke or Ezra who will come searching for Grogu

Watched it so many times now. Agree with your thoughts.
I think it'll be Luke, but I kind of hope they don't de-age Mark Hamill, I don't think that technology is quite there yet. Be cool if they cast Sebastian Stan or something like that.

They've just announced an awful lot of Star Wars TV shows and films. 'Rogue Squadron' is a new film, alongside
    'Visions'
    'Lando'
    'The Acolyte'
    'A Droid Story'
    'The Bad Batch'
'Obi Wan Kenobi' (featuring Hayden Christensen)
    'Andor'
    Ahsoka'
    'Rangers of the New Republic'

May be time to bail. Solo was about as exploitative a project with which I am willing to deal. Rogue One was inspired. Mandalorian feels fresh. But it seems we are heading into endless Star Wars Holiday Special territory.... ;)

I really liked Rogue One, but is there anyone out there really, REALLY interested in a Cassian Andor series?
  • I’m excited for maybe 2-3 of these projects. The rest just feels like Disney exploiting Star Wars until it’s nothing but a dead corpse. In fact the whole “Disney Investor Day” just seemed so soulless and pessimistic to me for some reason.

Diego Luna slowly held his hand up as he looked around the room hoping to see more raise their hands.

Yeah, me. I wanna see that less-than-clean side of the Rebellion that the movie was trying to imply. Outside of killing that one informant, Cassian was just as morally justified as any other hero in the saga. Give us some more ambiguous moments so that when he decides not to pull the trigger in the movie, it finally means something.

Not me, personally. And despite being a huge Fett fan, I'm glad they didn't announce a Boba Fett series as was rumoured. Would have been compared to The Mandalorian which is a very high bar.

Kind of looking forward to Kenobi, and Rogue Squadron sounds cool too. Otherwise, I'm basically happy for The Mandalorian to cap off the Star Wars story for good.

Let's just safely assume that half of what is announced today will never be made. :)
But I'm not against more SW output. I accept SW as a factory, pushing product off its assembly lines as much as possible, and continuing to do so as long as we're willing to buy it. Merchandising is the bread and butter of SW, as it always has been since the early days. EU novels, comics, TV series, video games, action figures, ... in the end, what's another film if not just one more product to sell. I made my peace with that a long time ago.

And so far so good. Disney isn't destroying the film magic of Lucas' SW. Sure, Solo and ROS have their detractors, but like the prequels, they too will grow up and be embraced after careful re-assessment. That's just a matter of time. Meanwhile, The Mandalorian should fill us with confidence. Disney may want the money, but if they can attract good names to a SW project, people who care about the universe and the legacy, who grew up with it and wouldn't want to go crazy with it, then we're good.

So I'm not against another batch of SW films. I rolled my eyes when in 2012, they announced what was on the menu for future Avengers films. And that came together very well too. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt.

Disney sure are milking star wars till it's dry and beyond.

Imagine, if you will, Disney had the James Bond rights....

There would be a M,Q, Moneypenny, Felix ,Tanner ,Jinx etc film or tv series..... :))

Rogue Squadron on the N64 and its two Gamecube sequels have been and likely always will be my favorite Star Wars games, and even though I doubt this movie will bear any resemblance to them aside from the title, that still makes this the most hyped thing for me.
