Has anyone of those disappointed with the sequel trilogy we got tried to come up with their own sequel trilogy ideas? I was chatting with a friend at a pub recently and we were workshopping ideas we thought would be cool for a new sequel trilogy, the titles we came up with were:

Star Wars VII: The Remnant Order

Star Wars VIII: The New Dawn Breaks

Star Wars IX: The Balance of the Force

If I have some time later I might type up the story ideas, it was a fun exercise to try to come up with a new sequel story.

I have been working on my own episode 10. It would be a chance for change. It’s honestly quite a bit of a Lando story.

Nice, does it follow TFA and TLJ as is then?

Yep, and a lightsaber fight in inside of ice on a ice planet. Some female main villains, and some force ghost surprises.

TROS is the only one that disappointed me on a conceptual level. I can keep TFA and TLJ as they are, flaws and all, and want a film that does right by the characters. TROS didn’t really do that except for Kylo Ren/Ben Solo.

The biggest issue with the ST is that it’s way too reverential of the OT and the characters from that trilogy. I know that’s ironic, because there’s a ton of fans who would say it did the complete opposite. But when you look at the end credits and the first names to always come up were Hamill, Ford, and Fisher, THAT to me says the filmmakers didn’t put the new heroes in the forefront as much as they should have.

When Carrie Fisher died, they should have written her off screen. Sure, Leia deserves a better exit, but I don’t think what they did with her in TROS was worth it.

Yes, the trilogy began as a full on nostalgia cash in, and went downhill from there.
I do really like the beginning of TFA though.

This trailer makes the Obi-Wan show look like a cheap web series ; much higher production values and real locations!

    Real locations a major plus.

Rather wonderfully, the very recognisable quarry location seen at about 1m05 into the trailer was used in the 1970s for both Blakes 7 and Doctor Who. In the latter it played the part of Skaro, home planet of the Daleks! :)

I have a lot of fondness for that quarry.

It's pretty great that it's done the triple of UK-based sci-fi series :D

I know we’ll get some TV news. Possible movie news as well? Naboo Starfighters making a comeback.

The Mandalorian already has one, yes.
I don't think too much can be read into the poster for the event.

From what I've seen of Trevorrow's story, I don't think it would have been all that great. And it's not as if his Jurassic films have been solid gold.
Personally, give me a synopsis of Rise of Skywalker and I'd probably still have picked that out of the two. It's average and pretty forgettable, but it does Star Wars things.
  • Wasn’t there some concept art from Trevorrow’s script released?

I was always against making sequels. Before ROTJ was made, Lucas's original idea involved nine Star Wars movies: the OT in which Luke would defeat Vader, a ST where Luke and the other hope (a female character) would defeat the emperor, and then the PT. Lucas had such a miserable time making ESB, however, that he decided to cancel the ST and wrap up Luke's storyline with ROTJ by merging the Other Hope character with Leia and have Vader and the Emperor get defeated.

In my view, no matter what ideas Disney came up with for the ST, it would seem redundant. There really wasn't anything more to do after ROTJ, chronologically-speaking, and the sequels spent all their time either parodying or subverting things the OT did without telling any story of its own.

The morals in the OT were very black and white, IMO; even with the emperor dead, it would have been neat if they explored the idea of grey areas in morality within the Star Wars universe. The sequel trilogy did it a little bit, but obviously it wasn’t great.

Robert Meyer Burnett did a four hour breakdown of Duel of Fates script, I much preferred it to what we ended up with for episide 9. If you have the time it's an excellent listen.

The DUAL OF THE FATES draft was heavily flawed, but it felt like a natural step in the right direction as far as the characters were concerned. I think what it needed most fixing on was Kylo Ren’s story. Ironically, JJ improved on that, but to the detriment of all the other characters.

Awesome. Is that on YouTube? I suppose I could poke around the internet to find it.

Yes on YouTube, just type in Robert Meyer Burnett Dual of Fate script there are two parts/videos. As Robert has worked within the industry for decades he offers good insight. Here is Part 1...

Hasten to add I watched this two years ago so no doubt there has been additional information released since then?

  • I wonder how much Rogue Squadron would’ve been influenced by the games/comics. This news is a tad bit disappointing.

Andor just binged watched the first 3 episodes, wow that was superb I am totally locked into this show. They were wise to release the first three episodes together as the episodes combined are a chapter of a story.

Great story telling and characterization, this is on another level compared to the other Star Wars shows, its far more gritty, mature and realistic.

I’ve watched the first episode and although I’m impressed it’s defined the biggest departure of any of the live action Star Wars media for me. It hasn’t grabbed me by the collar yet but I’m eager to see where it goes and so glad that they took a risk with it.
