I don't get the Kylo Ren hate, seriously considering the garbage we got in the prequels.
The prequels are utter agony to watch TFA was a familiar blast to get things started again, no it wasn't original or mind blowing but it a huge smile on my face and I look forward to catching it for a second time on Blu ray soon.
Episode 8 will be where the series will need to strike out on it's own, if it goes down the same route as TFA then we have a problem but I don't think Johnson would have signed on to do that. Considering he's writing it, JJ was probably envious when he saw the script because Rian was getting to really take SW somewhere new.
Rogue One looks better than TFA but I always was more intrigued by that from the moment it was announced than Episode 7.
I watched TFA last night on Blu-ray and was surprised by how much Disney DNA it had. I found it odd because I hadn't really noticed it before when I saw it in theaters. So far, I really like the vibe I am seeing here with Rogue One, but I've seen a pattern lately where teaser trailers don't necessarily portray a film's tone very accurately.
(And for the record, I think Kylo was one of the best parts of TFA)
This teaser will push sales for the TFA blu ray sky-high.
Kylo Ren is a great villain.
"Wuss"? He places Vader's helmet in a pile of his enemies ashes. Doesn't sound wussy to me at all, sounds like the textbook definition of a psychotic badass.
He is psychotic yes. But watch how he fights Rey in the forest. He can't fight, he is just pathetic, weak and useless.
General Hux was more impressive even.
Once he's finished his training, watch out.
I don't believe it's fair to really judge what the character is or isn't yet when that was just the intro film to a new trilogy. Give it time, see how you feel about him in a couple of years once 'Episode IX' has come and gone.
@Creasy47
Yes I'll wait for the next one to finally judge the new films. Episode I also got so much better in retrospect as part of a trilogy :)
They probably wanted to try a different approach with this one, and that's to their credit.
Maybe. I just didn't like that stuff.
At least technically TFA is perfect. JJ Abrams really knows how to make a movie work, all his movies so far are entertaining, have good pacing, editing, camera work, score, etc.
The acting is atrocious in those films, Episode II & III are nowhere near greatness, they are agony to watch, they make me squirm whenever I catch a bit on TV and they've aged terribly.
I used to think ROTS was quite a bit better ( I think I wanted it to be) although a recent watch made me think that they are all about as bad as each other and there is no point trying to say if one is more superior to the other, they are outright rubbish.
TFA was nowhere perfect, my Wife calls in a Episode IV remake, I can see her point to a degree but I was just so carried away by the sheer exuberance of it. The acting was infinitely better than any of the prequels.
I can't wait to see TFA again soon, Blu ray arrives 18th here.
Though Rogue One is going to own it, that cast and plotline, I can't wait.
I have never been a "fan" of Star Wars. I like the movies, I own them on Blu-ray and re-watch them every other year or so.
I am a Trekkie. There lies my passion.
For some reason never got to see ROTJ although caught it on the Re-releases in the late 90's (the dreaded special editions).
My anticiaption for the prequels was built up over well over a decade so when they arrived and they were 3 over extended toy commercials with a large order of cheddar and some of the most wooden acting of all time, yeah I was big time disappointed.
TFA sated my appetite, I went in level headed and just wanted to be entertained as the previous film I'd seen to this left me very disappointed. Episode VII definitely made me leave the cinema with a smile.
As for Trek, never been a huge fan, like some of the original films, Wrath of Kahn being my favourite. I enjoyed both of the JJ films and caught them at the cinema but from the looks of the trailer this new film looks very worrying.
Hoping the trailer isn't typical of the film, also Justin Lin doesn't leave me that confident, never been a fan of the F&F films, tried to watch the first one with the Rock in recently and got half way through and turned it off bored to tears.
My hopes aren't up, but if they just at least mention Kyle Katarn by name I'll be ecstatic!
Also watched The Force Awakens (for the 3rd time, this time at my parents house). My dad went with me on my second viewing, and was confused at some parts, and my mom had yet to see it-- she saw the original trilogy only (lucky)
My dad had a better grasp this time around, and my mom, who knew who Luke, Han, etc. were, but wasn't really a 'hardcore fan' like me, found TFA to be 'alright'.
As the credits rolled, she asked "but who was that old man at the end though?"
I was like "well now we have to watch the WHOLE movie again!!"
