GF is one of the most iconic films no doubt, due to it being the first with all the OTT gadgetry and many of the franchise tropes. However, I personally believe many things that it did first have since been eclipsed in a combination of Bond films. Moreover, I am not a fan of the 'goofy' Connery that shows up for this particular outing. I much prefer the way he moves, talks, and behaves in the Young & Gilbert outings. He's more purposeful there, and far more deadly. Hamilton was better suited to Moore imho.
I don't know what it is with GF though @BondJames....
For me Terence Young iconized the more deadly assassin part of Bond. He focused on the more realistic part of the role combined with a more sinister scare of the villains.
Guy Hamilton however iconized the more funny, laissez-faire, cheesy parts of the Bond character. Including the introduction of gadgets and slightly more flat-written characters, like 'grumpy Q'.
Hence we I personally like FRWL way more, and GF is always at 11th or 12th place in my TOP 10.
What I also love about FRWL -and something that John Glen slightly copied for his film TLD- is the fact that the villains are shadowing Bond. Bond doesn't know a thing about the sinister SPECTRE-scheme and Blofeld, yet the viewers know exactly what's going on. It's fun! And it's the aspect that makes FRWL way more a thriller.
I would love that aspect to be back in Bond #25 to be honest. Hasn't been done in a long long time.

Just keeping the Irish? end up, sir.
TB up 12 slots? Damn!
- femme fatale
- exotic locations (Bahamas vs. Kentucky)
- Bond is a lot more active too
Really enjoyed it.
TB, YOLT and SF are the only Bond movies I find boring in certain sequences. That's enough I'm afraid to put them pretty low in my ranking.
Still TB could go up in my ranking again I guess. At the moment the negative outweighs the positive for me but it could change.
I guess you meant SF, not GF. GF is simply perfect and has not one boring second.
Jason's final Bond film ranking 2016: The Top 10 is pretty much set in stone now for some time to come.

The word 'nuance' isn't practiced a lot in your arguments no :-P ;-)?
Did you see an argument in that post? It's a simple statement of the fact I find some films rather boring.
I can do "nuance", it has happened rumour has it. It can't be longer than 853 posts ago.
The Rolling Stones have 24 official North American-release studio albums.
I love all 24 albums, but I could rank them and something would be at the bottom, but that's really no slight
I'm surprised by what seem to be exceptions in your list however. Namely, MR at 9 (quite outlandish), GE at 20 (reasonably gritty, especially given what was to come later in the 90s) & QoS at 21 (I suppose the editing and shaky cam were to blame?).
In terms of QOS, it had too much action. I love action but too much in any film is overkill for me. It's pretty much just one action scene after the other. Yes, they went a bit too far with the shaky cam work too. They certainly wasted the dog fight with this shooting style.
I'm not a fan of any of the Brosnan films but GE is the best of the four. I really don't like Brosnan's Bond but he's not bad in GE. Following this film he got progressively worse. The movie also had too much action for my taste. One thing that's good about Spectre is that it doesn't have too much action like SF and CR. A decent balance is there.
I am a fan of all of the Moore Bond films but for different reasons. Moore is wonderful with the comedy and Moonraker is a big, bold, fun adventure with colourful, imaginative sets that are reminiscent of the books and the Connery movies. I just treat Moonraker as almost a slapstick comedy film. There's also some wonderful, suspenseful scenes like when Bond goes to the lab in Venice. Also, I love Barry's score.
Another part of the reason I can't get into the Brosnan films and Spectre, to a lesser extent, is that they are too multifaceted, where they attempt to mix comedy/playfulness with grittiness and for me it just doesn't work. I like more consistency. Moore's films pretty much revolve around comedy except for most of the second half of FYEO which was well executed and a radical departure from the first half of the film. It's almost like a different movie except for the ending when the parrot is talking to Margaret Thatcher. :)
