The Opera scene is good, sans the artsy crosscutting.
Obvious early inspiration for the next two entries.

    Only not done as well.

I find it fascinating how differently the films are perceived. There seem to be only a few films that are almost always up there.

Very happy that OHMSS belongs to that category!

QOS is my go to Bond film when im pushed for time, just like DAD & TND are ones I always go to when i'm pissed as a fart,Andi .(Which is often he he ).

As for OHMSS,it is always a three-way battle for #1 spot with FRWL & CR .
No other films enter my top 3 ,just these ones, battling and swapping around all the time haha.

My three-way battle is OHMSS, DN & CR. Although it's a bit of a non-event as OHMSS will never leave the top spot.

Jeez the hate for SPECTRE is almost unparalleled. Is this just because it’s the new film or is it genuinely, on average, the worst bond film on this forum

Several people have it in middle, a few in the top ten or almost there.

I think it's just that it doesn't fit either extreme of the spectrum and it's not exactly something like FRWL or OHMSS, so it's harder to appreciate as much as some other Bonds. If it were a more extreme film like MR or DAD it could have a few contrarian fans, but that's more difficult since it's a bit of a middling ground between Craig's typical take on Bond and the cheesy classic ones.

SKYFALL was very well received, it still had similar complaints and dire projections for the future on forums like this at the time it was the latest Bond film.

Of course there are valid criticisms and some folks genuinely won't like the latest Bond film.
I think it's also true the latest Bond films are evaluated and put under scrutiny not applied to older films. And where a film like CASINO ROYALE or SKYFALL is over the top successful critically or at the box office or both, I expect the next will suffer some over the top lashing out. And CASINO ROYALE and SKYFALL types will have that, too. Not everyone, but a very vocal sliver of everyone. That's what I saw with QUANTUM OF SOLACE, and conversely almost 10 years later it's pretty well regarded on a forum like this. From the start its box office and user ratings matched good Bond films, and it wasn't some massive failure after all. So SPECTRE gets criticized for Brothergate and Scoobygate and other items, let's see what 10 years brings.
And whether or not you and I like BOND 25, I expect a similar reception.

To the question was SKYFALL as poorly received as SPECTRE, I can say I heard similar complaints. Better received, but still.

@RichardTheBruce - Interesting; I wasn't on the forum when SF came out. It's a bit hard to imagine SF being near-last on so many people's lists. I can definitely see similar reviews of QoS back in the day, though.

I should say I wasn't on this forum in 2012, maybe I'm projecting from my own experience elsewhere.

But I've seen the reaction (beyond supported dislike) with QUANTUM OF SOLACE as the zenith. Listened to years of damnation, a perpetrated failure myth similar to OHMSS, surety that Quantum would never be mentioned in a Bond film, Mr. White would never return due to his comments in the press, and so on.

With SKYFALL, I guess nowhere near that level of negativity but it had its very vocal detractors speaking in absolutes. Some predicting more doom in the future.

Well in fairness, Quantum was ditched in SF and SP only refers to it as part of its awful retconning of the previous films. Though it was kind of anticipated that Quantum would be a subsidiary of or alternate name for SPECTRE well beforehand.

Speaking of OHMSS' purported failure, it's worth noting that it lasted decades. Much longer than the time we've had for Quantum, and I think the gripes most can list for Quantum are a lot more specific than the ones given for OHMSS in '69. OHMSS is likely in a special place given its placement in history and the fact that it was the first post-Connery Bond, so naturally it would've been up for some heavy scrutiny. Lazenby leaving immediately certainly didn't help.

Also, I'm surprised OHMSS only scores 6.8 on IMDB. They're more generous to the "bad" Bond movies, with even DAD at the lowest coming in at 6.1. But only CR, the highest, manages to get 8.0. The entire Bond era is clumped in that 6-8/10 region, which suggests the reviewers think of the Bond series are entertaining but significantly flawed to the extent that even the masterpieces of the series don't score very highly. Which is kind of understandable for casual viewers, but I'm surprised FRWL, GF, CR and in particular OHMSS score so lowly.
