That was a nice touch.
@Birdleson Yes while they had different objectives they required the same disguise, and 007 was more successful. People often take issue with the "Siiit", Tarzan yell and silly Tuk Tuk chase etc, but overlook the decent thriller that it is. I don't mind the sillier moments, even like them, and in combination with a good but confusing plot, great ensemble of villains, and reasonably tense throughout it's always been a top 7 for me

I respect, people who like OP, but can't look past that.
So five or ten seconds from the movie, and it ruins the whole film?
The excellent PTS
The Sotheby's scene
The backgammon game
Bond fighting the thugs at Octopussy's palace
"Remember 007, you're on your own."
"Oh thank-you Sir, that's a great comfort."
Infiltrating the circus
The face off with Orlov
The race to stop the train
Defusing the bomb
The final attack on the Monsoon palace and the aerial action climax
All of that goes out the window.
Well each to their own I guess. I can understand there are elements of juvenile humour and silliness. But bottom of the ranks. Oh well.
Defusing the bomb
I like these quite a lot, fine Bond moments. Still, those juvenile humour moments kill the complete vibe for me. Moreover, I don't think that climax would have been any better even without them.
It flows better than FYEO which jumped from one protracted action scene to another, and is far more engaging than AVTAK.
The comedy doesn't seem to detract from the film as much as it did in MR. The Tarzan yell and 'Sit!' come and go so quickly you don't have too much time to despair. In MR every action scene was punctuated with a gag, which eventually wore me down.
The last 20 minutes as Bond chases through Germany to get to the circus, and defuse the bomb is genuinely thrilling. So is the early scene of 009 (8? 6?) being chased by the twins, wearing the clown's costume.
The plot is convoluted but enjoyable.
Nope. I never tire of OP.
Here's an interesting ranking. A few top ten entries on my list are incredibly low down on this list.
I like the love for CR, SF, GE, and TSWLM, but much of this list is extremely different from my own.
The meeting of the Russian generals (including Orlov's excellent speech)
Car chase (not particularly tense in itself but the stakes are high)
Twins fight
Initial monsoon fight
Basically it's one of the few Bond movies where I can skip randomly to any part and enjoy myself

Eva Green ended up as my second favourite Bond girl. CR’s plot and one of the poker scenes (the one where Bond loses and remains seated completely disillusioned) made top 5’s but it appears that wasn’t enough to end up higher.
I wonder if the outcome would have changed if you allocated points to all 25 instead of only the top 5.
FYEO, goes in and out of my top ten. Currently at 11, but it's always in that ball park.
It's a very good entry. But also imo one of Moore's best. I like the almost fatherly way he plays Bond in FYEO. I think it would've worked very well if Bond and Melina hadn't ended with a sexual relationship, but a mutual respect for one another.
It has some unbelievable action and beautiful cinematography I feel is sometimes overlooked.
If I'm not mistaken OP seems to be moving up your ranks too. ;)
Indeed it was. Luckily, I had a day off ;)
Next time, if there is one, I’ll probably go for top 3’s.
That's a great ranking @Birdleson!! So happy to see LALD so high. Mine would look really similar I imagine. I think I would put FYEO a bit lower and bring up TLD. And switch OP with AVTAK. Awesome. :)
1. Thunderball
2. You Only Live Twice
