And despite CR'67 reputation as being a bit of a mess, I still find it more entertaining than DAD!!

Good point, @Mathis1. I may have to rethink that one. The '67 CR is a beautiful looking film, colorful, vibrant, and crisp. We have the wonderful Ursula Andress as Vesper, and Orson Welles as Le Chiffre. There's some funny moments, and I do love David Niven, though his Bond is really a reinvention of the character.

I've always loved TLD. Soft spot for the 80's Bonds I grew up with.

    Why the break?

Probably been over doing it lately, or some of the films just aren't hitting the spot right now.

Rankings do really change with each rewatch, it's interchangeable as we frequently watch them again and again, that's fine.

The only thing that changes in my rankings were the Craig Era films, they've dropped big in my rankings, I didn't find them rewatchable, but the rest still intact, if not maybe, moved down one or two, but never had any vast changes.

Often a day or so after I've watched a Bond, that may determine how much I enjoyed it......or if it holds up.

Rewatch of Goldfinger left me a bit lukewarm. Kentucky is just SO bland. It’s still a classic, but I’m putting it down a few notches. Recent rewatch of Spectre was positive - I’ve decided that the L'Americain/train scenes in Morocco are among my favorite sequences in the entire series.

    1. Casino Royale
    2. From Russia With Love
    3. The Living Daylights
    4. Skyfall
    5. Dr. No
    6. Quantum of Solace
    7. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service

Perfect top 3! I also have those 3 in my top 5.
Agree about SPECTRE, love that whole train sequence, and the trip in the Rolls Royce that follows!

True about SPECTRE, the scene (L'Americain/train scenes in Morocco and the trip in the Rolls Royce that follows!) felt like it came from a Fleming novel.

Note: And this is coming from someone who didn't enjoyed (or find rewatchable) the Craig Era Films.

Right!? It’s one of the most cinematic sequences in the series. Sumptuous through and through. The maligned yellow/brown sepia filters actually do the locations justice here.

True, it's the most Fleming-esque of the Craig Era films, some scenes there felt like it came from a Fleming novel.

The conversations on the train between Bond and Madeleine are very Fleming, and I love them. Nice to see the train scenes getting attention even apart from the Hinx fight.

Having finished a new Bondathon, I intend to take a break for a while, so I may not update these rankings for a while, unless a random change of heart happens in between next watches. Here we go, going to do this in special tier lists:

The Divine Nine (My very favorite nine Bond films, which all have held Top 9 spots for a very long time now, hard to see changing!)
    1. Casino Royale
    2. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    3. Thunderball
    4. From Russia with Love
    5. Skyfall
    6. Dr. No
    7. Goldfinger
    8. GoldenEye
    9. The Spy Who Loved Me

The Best of the Rest (Great Bond movies that have just a few things here and there that hold them back from elite status, but they're all filled with awesome stuff.)
    10. Live and Let Die
    11. Licence to Kill
    12. For Your Eyes Only
    13. Quantum of Solace
    14. No Time to Die

The Stack in the Middle of the Pack (Good Bond movies that have their flaws but still make for solid choices to come back to now and again outside of marathons.)
    15. You Only Live Twice
    16. The Living Daylights
    17. The Man with the Golden Gun
    18. Tomorrow Never Dies
    19. A View to a Kill
    20. Octopussy
    21. Moonraker

The Poor Bottom Four (Bond movies that I don't hate, but are substantially lower in my enjoyment level than all the rest.)
    22. The World Is Not Enough
    23. Spectre
    24. Diamonds Are Forever
    25. Die Another Day

That's an awesome tier system. I find myself using a similar one since I don't truly hate any Bond film, but I do have about 3-4 that are lower in enjoyment level in which I don't revisit that often
  • Posts: 12,473
@Last_Rat_Standing Thank you very much! This is just how it shook out for me, as far as having four tiers of different kinds, and coming up with the fun rhymes haha. I'll take my bottom few over many other films for sure ;)

Five months since my last ranking, and I’ve only watched three in the interim. The brake led to some reassessment. TMWTGG, TLD, DAD and NTTD all benefitted. YOLT took the brunt of it.

    1. GOLDFINGER

    3. ON HER MAJESTY’S SECRET SERVICE

Not a fan of his latest entries, haven't seen them nor do I really care. They're trying too hard to be "artsy" and involve MI6 and M too much for my taste. Enough with the "tragic cynical Bond" and "this time it's personal.." tropes.
