I've always liked it. Since I first saw it.
I've been intentionally ranking it lower up to now to compensate for an automatic positive bias that I know inevitably exists (with everyone, including me) since it is the more recent and modern Bond film....Now that SP is almost with us (and 3 long years have passed) I am moving it up closer to where I personally think it belongs.
It is unquestionably a very entertaining, fast paced, beautifully shot Bond film, with excellent acting performances by all concerned (and I think the score is excellent too - although I realize that is a controversial opinion). I agree with those who question its plot holes and contrivances (particularly with respect to Silva) but that does not stop my enjoyment of all the other aspects, which are first class imho.
How cliched am I? My top three are the same as the communities. Though I do have OHMSS ahead of CR.

The gaps indicate tier rankings. You'll notice the movies in each tier is the same between this forum and the "random sources"
Same here... We are mainstream, boring Bond fans it seems... Or maybe we just have excellent tastes? That could be another way of looking at it ;)

20 --> 4.8/10 --> 'GoldenEye' (+2)

24 --> 2.8/10 --> 'Die Another Day'
25 --> 1.2/10 --> 'Casino Royale' (non-EON)
I just saw it. Sjee, we should watch a marathon together @royale65 hehe :-P. Good to see that my BOTTOM 7 doesn't make your TOP 10 either.
Bravo! It appears I have the same top three ignoring specific order from the forum ranking points and the same top four from the general population list.
I'm thrilled with the recent resurgence of positive Skyfall rankings. I returned to it before my most recent rankings after several months without watching and it was right on the heels of Casino Royale for the top spot in my rankings.
Trust me @Mansfield, SF is a guaranteed classic evergreen ;-). What GF is to FRWL, is SF to CR :-P: People will continue loving it right into 2037 when the Bond franchise will celebrate its 75th anniversary :-P.
Your rankings have a unique flavor. I can only imagine how much it pains you to have Die Another Day in last place for EON Productions; perhaps that's why you have 1967's Casino Royale? ;) I see you are giving The World Is Not Enough the respect [I think] it deserves. Robert Ebert gave a fantastic review that sums up my interest in the film well. You also gave For Your Eyes Only a similar slide to my own in my most recent viewing.
Keep giving Goldfinger and Goldeneye a chance. Even though the latter is in danger of falling to SPECTRE in my rankings if it delivers the goods, I will always view it favorably for its execution of modernizing Bond while also providing depth of character to the cast.
Solely looking at that discussion in the context of this topic, the two certainly appear to carry a similar value in this community. It is much too soon to make any kind of affirmation about their meaning to the series, but both films seem to be on the same level in terms of rankings and significance to the direction of future productions.

I have never thought it to be as bad a film as everyone says it is, but I can't say I can see what anyone would see in it either. It's always just stuck me as quite naff and uninspired.
I always thought TSWLM was a blatant rip-off of YOLT and afraid that OP didn't bring anything new to the table, just a routine adventure!
Thanks.
I'm not strictly a newbie as l posted in the past using Lazzers but somehow my few comments seem to have been deleted and my log-in details were not recognised.
Yes. Agreed.
I feel guilty about leaving YOLT out of the top 10. Despite it's flaws there's loads of memorable/iconic aspects to it - not to mention that it's extremely entertaining.
Where would the series be without YOLT's ninjas and Little Nellie and volcano and crack head villain and huuuuuge magnet and very sexiful girls and piranhas and rooftop punch up and and...everything else that makes YOLT a complete joy. ;-)
Yes, it is highly rated by the general public, but for the wrong reasons in my opinion. It's described as the film which "started it all", and that is why it needs to be fondly remembered. For me it is more than the chracter's debut on the movie screen, it is one of the best in general. Adding to that many people say it is "not a proper Bond film" because it didn't have many of te "Bondian features" that was introduced in Goldfinger, (the same unfortunaltely applies to FRWL) which I think is bollocks. So yeah, I'd say it is underrated. On this forum it certainly is!
I couldn't agree more!
