Thunderball is a curious case in my rankings. I'm not swayed by the slow pace until the second half, at which point it really bogs down the film for me. It doesn't work to its favor that the splendor it projected at the time is shackled by the technology of the era. The first three don't nearly feel to be as dated overall in my opinion because the production was more barebones. The speed boat finale is one of the most unwatchable scenes in the series for me, being much more jarring than the frantic editing in even Quantum Of Solace.
It certainly went up in my estimation with this last watch, though. I don't plan on re-evaluating my list until SPECTRE is released, but I do expect it to compete for a spot in the top half of my list with The World Is Not Enough, For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy (which I also viewed with more favorable opinion lately), and Diamonds Are Forever.
Nice ... to be honest I love 'em all..even the ones I harp on all the time.

I've come to realize that I like Moonraker – it was in 20th place. Shame about LALD, though. It just keeps slipping down my rankings, as other films I find a new appreciation for. I want to move QoS up the rankings, but looking at the pictures above it.... no. Basically I love all the Bond films.
TB has one of the most ludicrous villainous plots of them all. It seems that SPECTRE (and many Bond villains, for that matter) always wants to take the "Tom Sawyer" route to mischief: make it as difficult as possible. TB is case in point. The whole "plastic surgery" approach, as a means to get a pilot on board the plane in order to steal atom bombs, is simply stupid. Thomas Harris had a better idea for such a plot, in Black Sunday: simply brainwash or blackmail the pilot! Duh!
No matter...
I still love the film. In the James Bond universe, we are suspending reality for a couple of hours. Right. But...
Interestingly, though, I can't forgive MR for its silliness. Many other fans can and rank it fairly high. I just can't get past laser beams in space and EON's blatant attempt to capitalize on the success of Star Wars.

I know IMDB isn't the greatest site but as I done one for the Rotten Tomatoes I thought I would see how the IMDB one compares, I think it is quite interesting, Casino Royale had the highest score with 8.0 and Die Another Day was the lowest with 6.1.
Interesting and artistically probably pretty accurate. I was bored one day and did the same using RT thing using the critic list and did another one with the audience ranking and then I averaged the two.
Odd that OP is so low but I think we were burned out on Bond at that time so critics and audiences both said blah.. all those rankings and reviews are products of their time.

1-3 and 4-6 are hard to separate. I fear for TB's final ranking. It has the best collection of one-liners and several great scenes but it just moves so slowly. It's not even the underwater scenes, the whole thing plods along.
I like this list very much.
Interesting ...you taste are different.

This is a very unique list - I'd like to know why LALD is by far your least favorite entry
:-?
Where to start ?
Ok i love Jane Seymour in Somewhere in time but Soliitare is one of the most boring Bond girls ive seen.
The whole story seemed like a mess with no sense, being honest i just didnt understand the plot or what the whole film was about and never understood the villain's plan or what he wanted.
The only clear thing is that solitare had psychic powers that she would loose if she lost her virginity and Kananga wanted her for her powers.
Ugh and lets not forget about the horrible scene where Solitare was about to be sacrifised.
@Birdleson
Not that unusual. Many have most of Craig and Connery in their Top 10.
Here it's most of Connery and Brosnan.
In my Top 10 there are 3 Brosnan movies as well with Goldeneye at the top.
If you want one of the most convoluted plots in the Bonds films, I give you TLD and QOS.
Its so great im not the only one who has Pierce's films at the top.
His entries may not be the ones with the most depth but there are the most enjoyable.
Every time I re-watch it I try to figure out why I rank it that low. In the end it always comes down to the almost non-existent villain's plot to do what exactly? Sure I understand what his goal is, but it's not told very well in the movie.
Furthermore the voodoo thing is too much of a contrast to all other Bond movies. Bond and supernatural or even slightly supernatural doesn't go well at all.
And quite frankly, it's crowded at the top in a Top Bond list. Crowded in the middle as well and some have to be at the bottom even if those are good as well.
LALD does have two of my absolute favourite sequences of any Bond movie:
- The introduction of Roger Moore in his flat, every second is priceless and no other Bond actor has managed to start that well. Moore had his Bond figured out from the get-go.
- The best "car" chase scene ever in any movie for that matter! Speedboats and police cars chasing Bond and especially Clifton James in what must be the funniest ever side-character in a Bond movie
Oh I just love to quote him ;)
Sheriff J.W. Pepper: By the powers INvested IN ME by *this parish*, I hereby do commandeer this vehicle and all those persons within!
[spits and looks at Eddie]
Sheriff J.W. Pepper: And that means YOU, smartass!
Sheriff J.W. Pepper: There's that son of a bitch. I got him.
[to Bond]
Sheriff J.W. Pepper: What are you? Some kinda doomsday machine boy? Well WE got a cage strong enough to hold an animal like you here!
Felix Leiter: Captain, would you enlighten the Sheriff please?
State Trooper: Yessir. J.W., let me have a word with ya. J.W., now this fellow's from London England. He's a Englishman workin' in cooperation with our boys, a sorta... secret agent.
Sheriff J.W. Pepper: Secret AGENT? On WHOSE side?
I liked your last explanation on why Live and let die is almost at the bottom of your list as well Jason i thought i started to go crazy.
Anyway i guess it has a few rediming qualities like Bond escaping from Kananga's farm and using the aligators to escape also the boat chase scene was really good almost as good as the one in The world is not enough
What the ....
Octopussy so very low. What gives? I'm still not sure what the problem with LALD is, but then we're all unique. But 21 for OP..how..why...makes no sense.
Never seen a list like it. DN below DAD and TWINE, FRWL 8th, MR beating Majesty's.
By all means you have your reasons for placing the films in the order you prefer them. Nothing wrong with that. Just took me by surprise somewhat.
What I don't get is OP (the egg bit) and DAF's (killing the smugglers) plot
But anyway as BondJasonBond said, it's crowded in the top 15 so something's gotta be at the bottom :(
In fact only 33/160 members have it in the top 19
Not the highest rank for DAD though, a user of AJB has it at 2 :))
and it's refreshing to see a different list for a change.
It clearly shows the love for Brosnan and Connery in the Top 10.
9-12 the Dalton movies and CR and TSWLM makes sense as well.
If anything then OHMSS and OP seem to be a bit low, but that's a matter of taste really.
OP is a very special movie that may be disliked for many reasons and OHMSS stands and falls with George Lazenby, if someone likes him in the role or not.
That's true it's nice to see Brosnan at the top for a change
