@Mendes4Lyfe, always makes me happy to not only see love for DN, but to see it ranked #1 on someone's list. Glad I'm not the only one who loves the absolute hell out of that movie.

You, me and @Pierce2Daniel could probably speak ad nauseum on the subject. Incidently, do be sure to check out @Pierce2Daniel's 'DR NO ANALYSIS' thread if you haven't already. That thread really spoke to me as a diehard fan of the film. It's sad to think that a film like that probably won't happen again in the series, given how the franchise has balloned since those early days. Still, that makes Dr No all the more special, while it was being made not even the producers knew quite what they had on their hands. :)>-

Since we're doing top 6s now:

    LICENCE TO KILL
    FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE
    THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS
    DR. NO
    FOR YOUR EYES ONLY
    QUANTUM OF SOLACE
  • New trend!

    From Russia With Love
    Goldfinger
    Licence to Kill
    GoldenEye
    Die Another Day
    Casino Royale

Well, you need one bad movie in there, because all that greatness will get old. I had to cut TSWLM, which was a source of much sadness, but I had to stay true to the greats and to the need for variety.

    Top six? Ok I'll play.

    FRWL
    GF
    CR
    OHMSS
    TSWLM
    SF

My list changes all the time except FRWL always on top.

Laz keeps OHMSS from being higher. I'm iffy on GF but left it there.

    Casino Royale
    Licence to Kill

    No Moore?!?

I know. I nearly included LALD. But LTK is a better film. I prefer the film's I deem more in keeping with Fleming's Bond.

Thanks. That top grouping doesn't really change (sometimes OHMSS and CR switch places). Coming up next, if I could take eight, would be LIVE AND LET DIE and THUNDERBALL.

Classic loves here, except perhaps Live And Let Die, which I don't find overly popular (then again, on here, it is considered to be Moore's second best?).

Anyway, if you're allowed to take six, I think it should take one of each actor. If you spend long enough on the island, you'll miss the actor that you failed to take a movie of. Also, I can't imagine taking both TLD and LTK onto the island. I'm an LTK apologist myself, but even I admit that the movie is hugely flawed. TLD also has some gaping holes. Both are far from perfect - I just enjoy them for what they are: good, but not great Bond films.

I am taking eight, and not even asking: DN, FRWL, GF, OHMSS, FYEO, CR, SF and SP.

I think a lot of people consider FYEO his second-best.

I agree about taking one of each actor. But I don't agree on the gaping holes in TLD. That's rather subjective, really.

@IncompetentHenchman - Anywhere else, I'd say FYEO with confidence. But this site seems to have an amalgamation of LALD, FYEO and OP as his second best.

As for TLD, agree to disagree. But weak villains, leftover Moorism that Dalton doesn't handle well, lack of steam once they hit Afghanistan and a (for me) rushed villain death count as gaping holes. Not crippling ones, just visible ones.

I consider both TLD and LTK great and don't consider any of Moore's great. I wouldn't miss him to be honest. I find four of his seven films highly enjoyable but I can't consider them great.

My opinion of course. I know Moore has a huge fanbase.

    Dr No

6 is more logical as there are 6 Bond actors.

True. But if there are 8 I can include a Moore film.

    However, if I follow the rule of 1x film per actor;

    From Russia With Love
    On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    Live & Let Die
    Licence to Kill
    Goldeneye
    Casino Royale

Absolutely. I'll have to pop over to that thread and take a look, I always relish an opportunity to talk DN to death.

Not my personal #1, but it is the best Bond film.
  • Is the desert island six really just the top six? I think you need a little more variety in there, however you slice it. I kept OHMSS out, despite it being one of my top six, and let in LTK and DAD so that I could get a taste of both Bond at its darkest and Bond at its silliest.
  • TSWLM is his second best.

    Surely that IS his best?

Some people have a tendency to run against the norm in certain areas, and many find TSWLM overrated. Of course, it's up to their opinion, but I could debate such a topic - I personally find TSWLM to not lack of any of the gaping holes found in every other one of Moore's movies. Not quite perfect, but closer to it than any other Moore movie.

On a side note, I wouldn't mind having civilized one-on-one debates regarding films vs films or actors vs actors or anything of the sort, really.

It is great, but personally I find FYEO to be the better film.
