    The World Is Not Enough

I used to have a soft spot for TWINE, and ranked it as one of Pierces better outings. However on this viewing I found myself asking why?
Why have Bond deliver the money to King. So you can kill King at Mi6 ?
Why not just shoot him yourself.
Why do we have the parahawks trying to kill Bond. Surely there are easier ways to kill him. (Obviously it's to have an action set piece. But this was lazy.)
Why is Renards condition not explored or developed further. He feels no pain and will grow stronger everyday till he dies. Wasted use of Robert Carlyle.
Why do Renards men go on the submarine with him. He's going to blow it up and kill himself. At least have a line to let them think its for another purpose, or why would they join him.
Other issues I had, the PTS is far too long, and the cigar girl is just terrible. "Not from him."
    :-O
The pipeline scenes are also embarrassingly bad, some of the dialogue looks like it was written by a teenager. (Also, how fast is Bond at working out how much time they have to stop the bomb. He's a little too quick on that one.)
It's just a mess of a movie, with shoehorned action scenes and a lot of hammy acting. Pierce Brosnan take a bow. Pain face was never used so extensively.
This will be dropping down my ranking after this viewing.
  • TWINE often floats around the bottom spot for me.

    THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS

One of my best all time viewings of this film. Exquisite stuff. Dalton is superb, Kara is a naive but charming Bond girl, Krabbe is suitably slimy as Koskov (Whitaker is the weak link, but is still tolerable nonetheless), the action is probably the best of any Bond film (along with TSWLM), the score (oh the score!), the title track is one of my favourites.
    Yes!I concur!

Better make that two. I don't mind there being a physically weak main like Koskov and Carver, so long as there is a henchman to carry out the dirty work.

I think Koskov is a good Villian, he looks bad when lumped in with Whitaker.

halfway through goldfinger and a few points I already need to make

    1. the PTS is cassic and brilliant and maybe the best one in Connerys era so far (sure I have seen these films all countless times before but I am really trying to go into each film as novice as possible )

    2. the sneaking around geniva is nice and good

    3. so far thoug the film is just so BORING.. sorry From Russia with love had a slow pace sure but it also had great action sequences and great tension thoughout the film here there is a shot of goldfinger sleeping as odd job drives.

    4. I think the car chase is the best so far of the films (rear projection works better at night)

    5. Tilly is an absolute wasted character

    6. the hotel maid in the beginning may be the hottest girl bond never slept with..

    7. Oddjob and Goldfinger are memorable but shrugs over all I feel they are just ok (and honestly not as interesting as Kronsteen Klebb and Grant)

to be fair I remember being bored to tears with the novel (feming's weakest by far) so I guess it's better then that but coming off of From Russia with love it's going to be tough to finish this I will post more on my over all thoughts in about an hour (as I think I only have an hour left if I remember correctly)

I will say though Complain about activation all you want a lot of the details in Goldfinger's plant were done nicely and very similar to the film... ( a proper update of Goldfinger with Craig doing the voice and the ability to have 3rd person cover would of saved Activision's 007 run and given them another hit and possibly even game of the year in 2013 but you know what I will ignore it and yes I know everyone here will hate that idea but with good game mechanics the masses would of eaten it up and you all know I ma right)

As for the laser scene sure it's a classic (and some of the best moments of Connery's tenure) as is the PTS the car chase etc but that was this film feels like classic moments surrounded by a boring substandard plot sorry guys I am trying so much to love this film as many rank it number 2 or 3 on their lists but it's just ok I may watch thunderball tomorrow just to get a stronger bond film this weekend

I think there are also stretches of FRWL that are boring, personally. Especially the gypsy camp, and the helicopter/boat chase at the end.

    Oh wow, now I feel like a non-fan :))

In fact I haven's seen one Bond movie this year (Spectre at the cinema not counting).

Tonight, in 2 hours, I will start my new Bondathon with Spectre :D

    YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE

Had a hankering for YOLT tonight, so decided to pop in the disk.
YOLT usually shares the distinction with THUNDERBALL in being my least favourite Connery outing, and probably still is. However, it is difficult not to have fun with YOLT, what with the splendid score, the awe-inspiring Ken Adams sets, the volcano lair finale and perhaps some of the best use of location in any Bond film.

What stops this film getting near to my top ten is Connery's rather uninterested performance (his delivery of the lines "yes, he tried to kill me" and "I took a first in Oriental languages at Cambridge" exemplifies this), Bond's Japanese disguise, some dull stretches (the marriage ceremony, ninja training etc.) and an underwhelming Blofeld in Donald Pleasance.

    Middle of the pack.

    Bondathon 2016 ranking-

    OCTOPUSSY/THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS
    LIVE AND LET DIE
    YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE
    GOLDENEYE

Did a double feature of AVTAK and MR. 2 fantastic soundtracks and main theme songs. MR is one of the most gorgeous and expensive looking film in the franchise, and is 2 hours of pure epic entertainment with a Sir Rog who clearly is enjoying himself. As for AVTAK, I really like the film. Sir Rog may look old but he is still his usual self. Zorin and May Day are colourful characters. It always surprises me that film goes by very quickly - I had memories of being bored at several moments, but in recent viewings I find myself having a lot of fun with this film.

    I did it.
    It's over.
    Forever.
    It will never happen again.

    My first time.
    I'm deflowered.

Finished watching SPECTRE for the first time on Blu-ray on the "small" (65") screen.

From now on it's plain ole routine (until Bond 25).

    :(

    but

    :D

because seeing Spectre at home in this quality was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The first sex is always a bit awkward, highly exciting and in the end liberating.
And then it only gets better and better...

And so is Spectre, only getting better. And I'll always remember that special first time :\">

Which is better, Die Another Day or Quantum of Solace?

overall, today I'd say, QOS because as a purely entertainment fast action flick it works perfectly.

DAD on the other hand, is and feels like a Bond movie, where QOS could be an episode of any other action franchise.

Both could have been so much more with changing only little.

Yeah, I tend to prefer the films that FEEL like a Bond film, rather than just have the Bond character. That being said, I think there is a slight bit more ambition/effort in QoS in terns of the story/characters. Everyone in DAD tends to speak in cliches. And I mean EVERYONE.

    Just finished QOS.

I'm always stunned at how badass Craig is in this outing. From the thrilling PTS to the final climax in the Bolivian desert, Craig is an unstoppable machine. A shame that the fight sequences in SF and SP didn't match those in CR and QOS, particulary the CR PTS, Obanno fight and Slate fight. As for QOS itself, it seems to go by faster and faster each time I watch it.

*rubs hands together menacingly* yes, yes, my TWINE bashing is beginning to take hold.

Rewatched TB with a friend who is a smaller Bond fan. It jumped from 11 to 6 in his rankings!

As for me, it's well documented how much I love this thing. Still see it as the best of the best. And undeniably in that handful of the top films of the series. Ambitious, epic, but still thrilling and full of Fleming/Young's touches of danger, particularly the way sex and danger are so closely linked (sucking the poison from Domino's foot, Volpe as Bond's sexual doppelganger if you will, Largo's unseen torture of Domino, etc etc etc).

The action is fantastic and the finale is full of beauty, grandeur, but also I think it has the most impact because underwater the corpses seem even more unnatural and haunting.

    1. THUNDERBALL
    2. FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE / GOLDENEYE
    4. SKYFALL
    5. YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE
    6. MOONRAKER / DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER
    8. FOR YOUR EYES ONLY
    9. SPECTRE
    10. THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN / DIE ANOTHER DAY
    12. QUANTUM OF SOLACE
    13. NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN / THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH

I was told before that for the bigger tv screens you need bluray, and it's true.
The difference in detail is stunning. The old Bond films look so new and fresh.

Watched You Only Live Twice. It's a bit puzzling - for every good thing I can think of the film, I can basically think of a bad thing to counter it. It's a very strange see-saw contest between Connery's boredom and the overextended application of the Bond formula vs the nice score and the vastness of the sets.

When did Bond films stop being thrillers and became pure action movies?
