Moonraker could of been so much better if they hadn't had the asinine idea to put Bond in space, cash in on the Star Wars boom of the time etc, but it's just awkward to watch, laser beams everywhere, 007 in outer space, never been comfortable with it

Michael Lonsdale may well be an actor of the highest caliber but here was sadly lacking, he did have the best lines of the movie though, without question

I wanted to throw up when I saw the lazers, it was very uncomfortable as you say.

I absolutely can't stand Moonraker. No matter how many times I try to rewatch it to get a better viewing and maybe boost it in my rankings, it never happens. It will always be at the bottom of my list along with GF and OHMSS. It's a shame too, because it could have been pretty good if (1) they had stayed closer to the novel and (2) if they had cut out all the cheesiness that plagues the film start to finish.

Glad to know that someone else dislikes OHMSS! I thought I might have been the only one. As for GF, yes, it is true and unfortunate. I'd prefer to like it, but I just can't do it. It's simply too boring and dull.
  • Goldfinger is frowned upon by some genuine Bond enthusiasts because as mentioned not for the first time, it's simply a dull adventure, Connery is always sitting about, in Jail cells, on outdoor chairs, on airplane seats, in the back of trucks, on sunbeds etc, no wonder he had put on some weight by the time of Diamonds, the man needed to exercise some more. There are a few bits of interest such as the Golf rounds, whenever Harold Sekata in on screen, a decent teaser, fun and lively Fort Knox ending as the timer counts down etc but for the most part it's a mundane bore and some would rather look directly into the sun than watch this particular entry

Yeah, you mentioned all the good parts, and the rest is junk! The only other good scene is the DB5 car chase and when Tilly gets killed by Oddjob. Other than that, nothing special at all.
  • I'll maybe get castigated for it but I always thought Honor Blackman was one of the most forgettable Bond girls of the series. I have to be honest with myself

Oh I agree 100%! Pussy Galore is one BIG reason why I put GF way down towards the bottom of my rankings. She is dull, wooden, and down right annoying! I'd even say Mary Goodnight beats out Galore, because at least Goodnight had the looks to make up for her acting!
  • Blackman is for Connery what Chiles was for Moore, what D'Abo was for Dalton, what Richards was for Brosnan, what Arterton was for Craig etc, maybe the latter wasn't really a Bond girl so to speak but you see what I'm getting at

Yes, all of them were pretty pathetic, especially Galore and Goodhead. Also, d'Abo was not attractive at all, and I hated the whole lovey-dovey stuff between them in TLD. As for Richardson, she's a looker, but nothing else! And for Arterton, she doesn't have enougn screentime to make a difference.

    Dr No, it was great!
  • For Your Eyes Only 1981 and it's just this minute finished

Keeping it short and having seen it countless times obviously

Moore puts in a credible performance for the last time as 007, good PTS, not too keen on the Easton song, did she really need to appear as herself on the titles?, Julian Glover is wasted as the main villain, Lynn Holly Johnson looks incredibly cute, Carole Bouquet too was attractive, some fun action sequences, the ambiguous Blofeld cameo at the start, stainless steel delicatessen's et al should of been left on the cutting room floor, obvious bits creeping in here for Moore and poor humor to come before it all got a bit out of hand in future releases. Almost dropped off during the monastery climb towards the end, I've never seen anyone die so quick from having a knife thrown at their back, Moore looks a bit jaded at the end too. It was good to watch again though

Gets a 6.5 (out of 10) this end

Why do you not like OHMSS? Is it Lazenby? The writing?

It's main flaw with me is how boring it is, especially in the first half. Also, the locations are kind of bland, and the editing isn't great either. As for Lazenby, I think he was the wrong man to play Bond, and I didn't like his performance too much. Also, the love story between Bond and Tracy is boring and blah, and takes up too much of the movie.

I love Moonraker but once they are in space it becomes a little tedious and dull. Anyone read Wood's novelization of, I'm guessing one of the earliest versions of the script, if not the first version? When Bond and Goodhead are in space it's certainly more interesting, surreal and suspenseful. The scenes are reminiscent of Kubrick's ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’. Bond even mentions the film when remarking on a glass of wine - "Kubrick 2001". Some of the scenes in the jungle are superior to those in the film too. They're more in the vein of a Fleming novel.

That's always a big problem in a Bond movie if the second half is boring and stupid, because then you have nothing to look forward to. I love a Bond movie with an anticipating finale, like GoldenEye or License to Kill.

Been a while since i sat and properly watched DAD just treated myself to the ultimate bond box set. the scene where bond first meets jinx, the dialog is hilarious. will check out the extras once the film descends into lunacy.

Well, the final fight in DAD is actually pretty good. It's very dangerous and exciting! Graves' plane is being torn apart, and there are just four people left alive. Of course, we all know who will survive, but it's an edge-of-the-seat climax in my opinion. However, it is still plagued by cruddy dialogue, like "I'll have to try something more to the point" or "Oh look! Parachutes for the both of us! Whoops, not anymore!"

Only time i have really watched the end of DAD was at the cinema, i struggle with the end because there is too much cgi, to be honest film lost me earlier than that. end of licence to kill is excellent. just watched the extra's. the flaming hand coming out of the explosion that sanchez dies in is spooky. the image only appeared on a photo and not on film, though its hard not to think its not a prank. Lol

    Live and Let Die

I used to have LALD ranked at #2, but I recently bumped it out of my Top Ten. That's a huge bump, I know, but even after watching it today, I still can't put it back in my Top Ten. Now, I did enjoy it, as with any Bond movie, and I do think it can sit around #11 or #12 and be okay there. What lost it for me is the lack of good action. What little we do get is not very impressive, and is too brief. I'm looking at the double decker bus chase, the plane chase, and some areas of the finale when I mention this. These scenes just lack punch and explosiveness, and leave me unsatisfied. When mentioning breif, I'm looking at the all three previously mentioned, with special emphasis on the fight with Baron Samedi. Are you kidding me? You call that a fight? It was barely longer than two seconds! This was a huge let-down in my opinion. Also, the boat chase really isn't that exciting, and nothing really big happens except for when Adam's boat blows up. However, even with the dull, non-satisfying action, redeeming qualities like the characters and the music, and also some of the locations, keep LALD in my Top 15.
  • Watching MR it has its faults, though its a joy to watch ken adams imagination in full flow.

    GoldenEye (1995)

Actually watched this last night, so this should come before my review of LALD, sorry for the confusion. Anyway, if any doubt crept into my mind of GE being my #1, then it was quickly swept away! It is still my number 1 favorite, and always will be. The characters, the plot, the action, the music, everything! It all goes together so smoothly and gives me the ultimate Bond experience!!!
  • GoldenEye rocks. I don't care what anyone says. The only way it would have been better is if Dalton was in it
  • Goldeneye has many merits, Brosnan is fresh and hungry in his debut performance, convincing too, it has a fantastic PTS, Turner does OK with the music, and some fine and exciting bits like the Saint Petersburg Tank Chase and Soviet missile train. It's only when Bond leaves for Cuba that things go downhill for me, it all gets a bit dull, Sean Bean does his best to keep things going but things seem a bit restricted and it has a bit of a dull ending. Sorry

GE is definitely the best of the Brosnan films and I feel Brosnan is at his best in it but it's still disappointing. There's too much action and like TND, TWINE and DAD they try too hard to fit every required ingredient into one film which makes it feel over done.

With the exception of Richards, I really disagree here. I consider Blackman, Chiles and d'Abo terrific while Arterton was quite cute in her limited screen time. I'd take all 4 of them over the Brosnan era Yeoh/Richards/Berry triumvirate any day.

As for the last Bond film I watched, DAF. Showed it to a friend who liked it but she did not like Bambi & Thumper.
