    I backflipped on this one a bit. I like it quite a bit now, even though it’s not quite Top 10 worthy.

    The biggest reason I ended up preferring it over SP eventually is that the excitement level is far higher and the tone more consistent and strong.

    True. It’s the best one to watch if you’re after pure action and excitement. Oh and it feels surprisingly standalone despite being a direct sequel to CR.

    It’s a good Bond film. I hope more and more Bond fans will turn around on it. It’s a lot more Bondian than it gets credit for too. If Craig’s next can even match this, let alone CR or SF, I’ll be satisfied.

    I’m continuing to introduce my friend to Bond. We did a double feature of TSWLM followed by DAD. While he did like them both, upon finishing he said, “The second (DAD) was definitely more entertaining, but I had a lot of problems with it.” He’s got my taste in Bond.

    Nice. TSWLM is better in every way of those two I think... but DAD is my last place Bond film.

    Kickstarted my Bond marathon with Dr. No, then watched FRWL soon after. Now , a few minutes into Goldfinger (probably one of my favorite Bond films. In a few seconds time, I could always name Goldfinger and Casino Royale as two of my favorites. There are others, of course)

    Casino Royale, which is probably one of the two or three most watched Bond movies by me. I never get tired of it. It is, after all, (according to me, anyway) the series' best movie since Thunderball. Yes, I even like it a little more than my beloved OHMSS. GoldenEye was responsible for getting me into 007 when I saw in the theater at the age of sixteen back in '95 and I loved it. Then I saw TND in '97 and though I enjoyed it for the most part, it was a step down in quality after GE and I didn't see TWINE or DAD until a decade later (had I saw DAD in the theater I would've walked out and ask for my money back). I kinda got out of Bond as a consequence. CR got me back in and here I've stayed. I loved Daniel Craig more than anybody since Connery (still do; I'm going to miss him terribly) and was excited for this series in a big way. Though QOS turned out to be a slight dip in quality (I've always really liked it though) I've really enjoyed both SF and SP and I sincerely hope Craig goes out on a high note with Bond 25. CR saved the series and brought me back. I know Craig and his movies aren't for everybody but I'm glad we all have our different opinions about the series. Otherwise this place would be boring. Anyway, I digress.

    That was me just a year ago, but SP has fallen quite a ways while QOS has enjoyed a little boost in my ranking. My biggest issue with SP is that it feels so tired and uninspired. They sort of copy-and-pasted stuff from the old days and decided to connect Craig’s previous films, which felt pointless. The one aspect I was glad they included again was Quantum/Mr. White. Otherwise though, it just felt really tacky. I think it has good locations and a few standout scenes, but otherwise is quite weak and indeed a bottom tier Bond film. QOS though is an overhated gem and really doesn’t have many serious problems.

    Another great viewing of The Living Daylights last night. One of my fondest Bond films.

    Love the cold war plot and Dalton's performance.

    The PTS and climax are my favourite of the series. Bond clinging to the net hanging out the back of the plane is one of the best stunts of the films.

    Also love the character of Kara. An innocent caught up in a world beyond her comprehension yet she rallies through by the end.

    So many great scenes. The sequence at the safehouse, Bond confronting Pushkin, the Aston chase, Koskovs fake defection, the battle in Afghanistan and the final confrontation with Whitaker.

    Also has one of Barry's best scores.

    A proper Bond film all round.

    I have fond memories of seeing it when first released. Came out of the cinema on such a high. Dalton was, and still is, amazing.
    Didn't have that feeling again until Craigs debut!

    Went straight from the cinema to buy the soundtrack!

    For me it was at that time the best Bond film since the 60's.

    I loved Time Out magazine's description of the PTS at the time....."It grips like wet rope.."

    Ah me too! I loved Barry's music. I regret to say that I've mislaid the vinyl that I got at the time! One of Barry's best!

    The Living Daylights is a great movie, and for me, both TLD and TLK are the last truly remarkable Bond movies (I really like Goldeneye but still) until Casino Royale. I prefer TLD over TLK a little, very easily my favorite Bond movie of the '80s. Both are so good and Dalton is so good in them, it makes me sad he didn't make at least one more. I often wonder what GE would've been like if Dalton was in it instead of Brosnan. Nothing against Pierce, mind you, but I think I would've liked it even more.

    I prefer GE over both the Daltons and the other Brosnans, but prefer both Daltons to the other 3 Brosnans.

    Theres a separate thread for that, but GE certainly would have improved with Dalton particularly would have loved to see him with Dench as her scenes fall flat with the wooden Brossa! As it is GE is a bit of a borefest for me!

    This. GE isn't a bad Bond film, it definitely has it's moments. But there is a 6'2" green eyed hole in the film. I can watch the other 3 Brosnan films and not think about Dalton, but I can't say the same for GE.

    I never understood the fervour for seeing Dalton in GE. For me Brosnan is the perfect fit. The film was going for "cool" and modern, and Brosnan delivered that better than Dalton ever could have at the time. He just seemed the man for the moment (Brosnan).

    For me LTK is more modern than GE which seems very dated then and now. I guess the fervour as you call it was because Dalton very nearly did it (Writer Michael France has claimed it was scripted with Dalton in mind!)
    And for .me Dalton would have brought it to life as its a very bland entry in the series!
