I really hope NTTD turns out as good as this! Will never forget the feeling of joy I had when I first saw it in the cinema! Wonderful Bond movie! Craig is amazing in it!
Can't see it coming close unfortunately mate.
It's looking more like Spectre MKII to me...
Dearly hope I'm wrong.
I am staying hopeful too. I don’t need it to be a top-tier Bond to still be happy with it. It it even avoids my bottom 5 that probably means I will like it a lot. I agree Craig looks way better in the movie just from the trailer; his SP performance was so much weaker than the rest. Personally I’m most excited about Safin; I have loved what I’ve seen, and feel great about that part.
Well I liked SP, but I do think we will have a different type of film it's all down to Fukunaga, he had a hand in the script and Directs. To paraphrase M he better not "cock it up!" Rami Maleks villain is also a major factor!
Well had a really enjoyable watch of this (after a crap day at work!) Its becoming or has become one of those overlooked Bond movies. There are some really good scenes and set pieces though! Like the pts, Glen sets up the shot of Bond at Tracy's grave in case they were bringing in a new Bond! Roger looks great mind! Helicopter action is spectacular, such a pity its ruined with the chimney drop! ( though I love"Blofelds" voice, a hark back to the early versions!) The car chase is fun, Alan Hume lenses stylishly, Carole Bouquet is stunning looking, Bill Contis score goes from the sublime to the ridiculous, keelhauling sequence is a highlight, as is the raid on the warehouse, Julian Glover is poor villain though and the climax, though well staged has pacing issues, oh and I love Binders titles! Theres a lot to like. Think maybe FYEO needs a lot more love!!
It's my favourite Moore. Sits nicely in my top ten.
The keel hauling sequence is one of most technically impressive in the series.
Agreed. Also must mention the casino scene. Usually these scenes are well lit and colourful, but Glen and Hume give it a dark, smoky almost seedy atmosphere. Fleming would approve methinks!
Had it as my favourite Moore Bond for ages, until I began to appreciate OP more. I may have to rethink that stance!
FYEO will have its 40th anniversary (phew!) next year, hoping it gets plenty of re-appraisal, based on this viewing!
Another great watch of this! Love it. Always comes in for criticism for lack of visuals, but I dispute that. I think it's a very stylish film, but the reality is, it's got one of the strongest stories and casts!
As Michael Wilson states, it's really a reworking of the Kurosawa classic, 'Yojimbo', where the hero infiltrates an organisation and plays the villains off one another to destroy them.
Dalton is excellent (again!) And Robert Davi is a terrific nemesis! What I love about it is that it builds nicely to an exciting finale. It, along with OHMSS, are the only Bonds imo with an exciting climax! The tanker chase here is an exceptional action set piece, really well thought out and filmed!
Always a pleasure to watch! LTKs never leaving my top 5 Bond films!
Pure class. Beautiful direction from Terence Young, just wonderful performances and a first rate script.
The locations in Turkey are very atmospheric and Barry's music compliments perfectly.
Best scenes for me are on the Orient Express. The scene where Grant has Bond at his mercy is just seriously intense. I could watch it on a loop it's so good. And obviously the fight is brilliant.
Pure Fleming and pure Bond. My second favourite Bond film 👍
Something so peculiarly entertaining about it. It's kinda like Velveeta cheese. I know I shouldn't enjoy it, but can't help it.
German TV channel NITRO starts a BONDathon next week. Every Bond movie, as far as I can see (the listing is as far as "Feuerball"), in chronological order. Every Tuesday at 20:15. Enjoy!
Well put this in with SF as a Bond movie I really want to like, but cant!!
Always love Rog, but the film just never gets out of second gear for me! The ski jump is amazing, but there are no other highs for me! Dont like the villain, hate Jaws, score is too jokey, Bach is a bore , and the action very pedestrian!
Like SF, I still give it a chance, but I much prefer all of Roger's other Bonds over it!
Wow! TSWLM is far and away Moores Best Bond for me.its tied with FRWL as my all time favourite!
Its last for me! I would sooner watch OP or LALD, and recently I have had a great viewing of FYEO, so that's ahead of it too! AVTAK, MR and TMWTGG have flaws, but are all more watchable and have highs for me than nearly all of TSWLM!
For me, only LALD falls beneath TSWLM.
The first hour and final 20 minutes is very good! Everything after the karate school (including ANOTHER motorboat chase) and Bond landing in Khao Phing Kan is completely disposable.
It does feel that way, but I continue clinging to the notion that Mankiewicz and Hamilton were responsible for the most egregious material. Plus it was a rushed production, so perhaps Maibaum didn't have enough time to fully resalvage the mess he inherited.
Yes - there are sillier movies. I mean, there were no pigeon double-takes or anything. But none as sophomoric.
Not even complaining - just making an observation.
Well it does have quite a few sins!...
Well that can be done with any film ;)
Long overdue watch of Connerys 5th Bond movie!
Not a good one am afraid. Some great scenes, but it is very drawn out, and the whole turning Japanese segment really drags it out! The finale is fantastic, much better than the similar TSWLM, but Connery lacks the panache he had in the previous 4! Pleasances Blofeld is not given enough screentime, and it just doesnt have enough memorable moments, the Little Nellie set piece is terrible and not one bit exciting! The film remains a lower tier Bond movie for me!
Still an absolute treat to watch. Never lets me down. Timothy Dalton IS James Bond! Best pts gets things off to a thrilling start, it also a top contender for best opening sequence, the fake defection, torn straight from Fleming, and how cool is Dalton in that tux with the velcro lapels!
The villains get a hard time on here, but i really like them, Koskovs slimy rogue, Whitaker as a mercenary whackjob, and the very physical threat of Necros, vicious kitchen fight and killed off in one of the best stunt sequences in the series. So many memorable scenes, the Aston martin chase, the confrontation with Pushkin, relationship with Kara, death of Saunders, battle at the airport, and i akways loved the final shootout in Whitakers war room!
Another satisfying watch of one of my favourite Bond movies!
That war room scene is one I actually enjoy. Bizarre and atmospheric.
