As both myself and @TheWiz pointed out, given that the journalist in question got some fundamental trivia wrong, I think it just about sums up his so called Bond "expertise".

I still enjoy DAD for what it's worth, but come on, ranking it in 10th place, especially over some other films that deserve a much higher ranking? Unbelievable.

Well, it has Halle Berry. And the professional critics simply have to praise any film containing the first so-called "African-American" actress to win a Best Actress Oscar.

This list is a complete joke.

If that was true then why did Catwoman get slammed? Or Gothika? Or Perfect Stranger? Or Movie 43?

Christ, she's made some bloody awful films hasn't she!

@WillyGalore, she has done some horrendous films, but she also has some good films under her belt: 'Monster's Ball' was great, and 'Things We Lost In The Fire' is one moving, emotional movie that I love.

Her tiresome and needlessly racialist acceptance speech lost her a lot of sympathy though, even if that was the highlight of her career as an actress.

You're right but the phrase "few and far between" does come to mind. I don't think she's a good actress in the slightest but she really lucked out with landing the lead in Monster's Ball. It was a plum role for her.

Ah hell, I don't know. How any professional critic can view DAD as anything other than a dire dump of a flick is beyond me. Their acceptance and occasional love of DAD defies logic.

Well many fans and critics did unbelievably accept it as great at the time in 2002 as I recall, though I was not amongst their number.

I didn't get beyond Quantum of Solace. Clearly they know nothing about movies, Bond or otherwise. It wasn't a masterpiece by any stretch but not below Brosnan's and Moore's.
I was tough and got two entries further. Them the claim that Dalton was "dull as dirt" as Bond completely stopped my interest.

I read the whole damn thing but then I'm a glutton for punishment!

I thought DAD was perfection when I saw it in theaters. Granted, I was 11 at the time, and Brosnan's films were my entry point into the Bond series, so I hadn't caught up on the rest of the films, nor had I read any of the novels at the time. As time goes on, I find myself cringing more and more at the film, but I don't entirely loathe it. The PTS, the sword fight scene, the Cuba scenes (sans horrendous CGI Jinx dive), and the Bond vs. Zao ice chase are really entertaining. But, does it deserve anywhere near the #10 slot? Absolutely not.

    I agree with this completely.

All of the connery and Lazenby films fill up the first batch, followed by in no order, Skyfall, Casino Royale, Goldeneye. The rest of the list should fill out with the rest of the films, with Octopussy and View to a Kill at the bottom. Throw in Quantum somewhere in the middles of the Moores, but certainly not worse than the clown-wearing Octo.
  • I once saw a list that had Die Another Day above Goldfinger. That might be the only one worse than this.

There are a few people on these forums that I think like DAD more than GF, some even despising the latter.

I don't necessarily have an issue with people not liking GF but to think it's actually worse than DAD is just batshit mental.

@WillyGalore, I wouldn't say I have an issue with anyone liking one film over another, though yes, some opinions are just absurd to me. If you're an ADD teenager who requires constant explosions and gunfights, then I can see why you would appreciate DAD more than GF, DN, etc., but I couldn't possibly disagree more with that opinion.

Right. I'm no fan of GF, but it is still vastly superior to DAD.

What strikes me about this list is how shallow the judgment behind the ranking is. It is spouting clichés after clichés, there is no critical approach. Why is QOS the worst? Because it rip offs Bourne. Care to elaborate how, why and to which extend? Naaah, can't be bothered, it rips off Bourne.

Yes, it's just very lazy journalism, if you could even call it that.

What a pathetic list. I'm having quite a laugh about it. Obviously this person hasn't seen a Bond film and spent time looking at the plot synopsis's on Wikipedia looking for the plots he liked best and put it in some list.

For srsness, though. Goldfinger is pretty bad but to call it worse than DAD is mentally retarded.

I watched it again a while back and it held up well for me. I know it ushered in film Bond over literary Bond, but still...

It's a shame that when checking Wikipedia that he overlooked Johnny Jordan for some bloke called "John Jones". X_X

I just have an issue with so much of it. So many scenes I don't think were well made or were even unnecessary. I watched TB last night and really felt it was a much more accomplished version of Goldfinger. I really enjoyed it whereas I find myself often complaining about GF while watching it.

It seems our opinions are a mirror image of one another. Where's the Wiz when we need him?

And Travers is actually a highly regarded film critic on this side o' the Pond.

Is he really? How amusing, but then rather like your cheese counter in the supermarket and team sports you Yanks do seem happy to settle for lower standards.

I don't understand how Travers is highly regarded. Anytime I see his name on something, it's usually a pile of trash that he's praising. I never seem to agree with him.
