Yep, I always enjoyed reading what people thought stood out, regarding the ratings.

Just my opinion, of course. That, plus SOMEONE needs to defend the weak! ;)

How does it compare with your own ratings/rankings?

Very close, but with mine a little lower. Looks about right, though.
    The community = 39.92%
    Mine = 38%

Whilst reading other peoples ratings, what stood out for you?

The zeros some members have in certain categories tell me they're either not looking at it objectively, or they've overlooked something. For example: zero for Fleming? Are the scenes with Raoul or the notion of an 'abandoned station for abandoned agents' not Flemingesque- at least in the smallest degree? The same can be said for the plausibility. Not forgetting the gene therapy clinic of course- but shouldn't Bond being captured and tortured in a North Korean prison for 14 months warrant the plausibility factor at least 1 point?

The issue for me with my 0's is that, some of those categories technically have points, but then the amount of garbage that counteracts them ultimately takes them away. More bad than good, essentially. Way more. Some of the zeros are there by default, though... *cough*TAMAHORI*cough*

I thought that may have been the case, but I didn't want to believe it ;)

That's one NASTY cough you have there, buddy. Unfortunately, you'll have to be quarantined indefinitely.

Oh, you mean like the one in 'Tamah0ri'? :)) Yeah, it was hard to rate the direction category when nothing stood out.

A fine film, one of Moore's best performances. Although the main girl and villain are tad a dull, this film manages to get the other Bond elements to perfection.

    YES!

    1. Direction - 9. I'm not the biggest Gilbert fan but he really managed everything excellently here.
    2. Screenplay - 9.
    3. Script - 10. I ADORE this dialogue.
    4. Plot - 7. The swallowing submarines is a tough pill to swallow now.
    5. Action - 10.
    6. Main Villain - 7. I like Stromberg, he's just a bit underwhelming.
    7. Main Bond Girl - 8. I concur with royale here. Anya is great, Bach sucks.
    8. Bond - 8. Moore's on top form but his best performance was yet to come, and as you all know it's his interpretation itself that prevents him from ever getting a 10 from me.
    9. Sets - 10 for the tanker alone.
    10. Music - 9. You know what, I really like Hamlisch's score. Always have. Nobody Does it Better is a beautiful piece of music and the way it's used in the score is genius.
    11. Cinematography - 10. Just don't see a reason for it not to be.
    12. Fleming - 8. Jaws is a bit ridiculous but other than that, you could be forgiven for thinking this is an adaptation of the novel. It's phenomenal how they took Fleming's worst book ever and turned it into something worthy of Moonraker or Thunderball.

    13. Supporting Cast - 5. Agreed.
    14. Main Titles - 5. Yep.
    15. Plausibility - 2. Again. Swallowing submarines.
    16. Pace - 5.
    17. Editing - 4. Just some small bits here and there.
    18. Tilt - 5. This was one of my first Bond films and perhaps the one I'd say is the most fun. I adore Spy.

    The Me Who Loved Spy

    Direction: 10
    Screenplay: 9
    Script: 9
    Plot: 9
Action: 10 (How could it be any better?)
Main Villain: 8 (Despicable, great dialogue)
Main Bond Girl: 8 (great character, a bit wooden though)
Bond: 9 (the mention of him being married was a nice touch)
Sets: 10 (ten out of Ken)
Music: 9 (Mujaba Club/Kalba's death suspense, 1 point off for when the van breaks down in the desert)
Cinematography: 10 (knocks it out the park thanks to a mostly on-location shoot)
    Fleming: 9

    Supporting Cast: 4
Main Titles: 5 (this one, I believe, was a template for later entries e.g. MR/FYEO/OP)
    Plausibility: 3
Pace: 4 (drags just a tad during the redshirt battle, but otherwise spot on)
Editing: 5 (no complaints here- love the editing for the Lotus chase)
Tilt: 5 (looove this film- Roger's best along with FYEO)

Bond 23 rank: 13/23. I think the Yolt maintitle and title song be the template for the maintitles and titlesong for The Spy Who Loved Me and Octopussy, but also for maintitle of Moonraker. The Spy Who Loved Me locations, cinematopgraphy and production design are example for the next 3 movies. The villian be Spy's Hugo Drax (who on his part be inspyred by GF and Blofeld.), not fan of GF part. I think i can say he best best from the 3 worse and the same can be said from how long there stick on the lair. To dark sometimes with Dificult dialogue, OHMSS slow pacing and missing the humor that for example FYEO and Octopussy have.

Haha. That's the first time I have seen Spy described as "too dark" and "lacking in humour". :)
