Ah! So close to breaking into the much vaunted 80’s club. But a very impressive showing by FYEO. A trio of Sir Rog's finest I must say! Lovely jubbly!
FYEO ranked 8/23 in our 2014 tournament with 77.68%
Will anyone stop OHMSS from running away with this tournament?
James Bond will return.

1. Direction – 10 (Campbell is superb with action and emotion. I really hope he comes back for the first film of the next bond actor.)
2. Screenplay – 10 (excellently constructed. Really love the ambiguity of vesper's action in those quiet moments before the climax)
3. Script – 9 (there are a couple of clunkers. I'm not always convinced by the dialogue every time I see that vesper introduction scene. But after that they really cook. Bond vs Le Chiffre is on point too.)
4. Plot – 10 (it's fleming at his finest)
5. Action — 10 (the best action of the series for me,)
6. Main Villain – 9 (one of the best villains of the series. Point off for being disposed of at the end of the second act)
7. Main Bond Girl — 10 (although it may be blasphemy I believe CR actually does a better job of bond falling in love than in OHMSS. Eva green and Craig have serious chemistry. She is layered, conflicted and tragic. A figure who continues to haunt the series.)
8. Bond – 10 (I love Craig's performance in this. Tough, vulnerable, charming, arrogant, violent.)
9. Sets – 9 (casinos, hotels, lake cuomo and falling houses in Venice. What's not to love?)
10. Music – 8 (among Arnold's best work - love the title song and it's incorporated throughout the score. The tragic elements of tunes like 'Vesper' offers a different layer not seen in Arnold's Brosnan era work. And the final scene is masterful)
11. Cinematography – 9 (inventively shot in the PTS and beautifully filmed at the Casino)
12. Fleming — 10 (the most fleming since OHMSS and also gets points for the way Craig approaches the role. Vulnerable, headstrong and brutal.)
/5
13. Supporting Cast – 5 (Mathis, M, Felix Leiter, Mr White all quality.)
14. Main Titles — 5 (love the card theme - mixed with a song's lyrics that resonates thematically and narratively with the film)
15. Plausibility — 4 (in bond terms this is the most plausible since LTK)
16. Pace — 5 (I love the pace of this film. It takes it's breaths when it needs to and builds tension expertly)
17. Editing — 5

My second favourite Bond film of all time. The first Bond film I would put on to try to convert someone to her majesty's secret service fandom. Everything is awesome about this film and the construction of it pace wise especially is excellent, it's not afraid to take its time when necessary. The action is my favourite in the series (that PTS, that parkour sequence, airport chase, stairwell fight, car flip, falling house in Venice. Some of my favourite scenes from any film in the last fifty-odd years!)

Egads man! We have a new leader. Personally I’m disappointed that Casino Royale knocked the majestic On Her Majesty's Secret Service on the top spot, but at least that film fell to a worthy competitor.

James Bond will return.

1. Direction – 7 (Some parts are done very well, some lag a little.)
2. Screenplay – 9
3. Script – 9 (Some great dialogue from Moore and Kotto.)
4. Plot – 8 (Intriguing story, occult. the ending is a little anti-climatic)
5. Action - 8 (Boat chase and bus chase are both entertaining and the runaway locked car at the beginning is suspenseful)
6. Main Villain – 9 (The character is fun and mysterious and Yaphet Kotto on great form.)
7. Main Bond Girl - 7 (Seymour's likeability is everything here because the character has potential to be good but the plot doesn't allow it.)
8. Bond – 9 (Moore looking and acting cool.)
9. Sets – 7 (The voodoo stuff is great)
10. Music – 10 (My favourite non-Barry 007 score - The title song plus 'The Lovers', 'Fillet of Soul' and 'Trespassers will be eaten' are all highs of the series.)
11. Cinematography – 8 (Well filmed for the most part. Especially the voodoo scenes and the boat chase is great stunt filming)
12. Fleming - 8 (Plenty of Fleming still remains among the liberties taken)
/5
13. Supporting Cast – 5 (One of the best of the series)
14. Main Titles - 5 (Again, the voodoo element is excellent and coupled with that song!)
15. Plausibility - 4 (Fairly plausible, with the voodoo Baron Samedi for the most part enjoyably balancing between reality and myth)
16. Pace - 3 (Pretty good - there are a couple of lags. I find most of Hamilton's films have a little issue with a slower pace at times and then occasionally going 'how did we get here?')
17. Editing - 4 (see - 'pace'. But overall it's pretty good except for weird 'Kananga Balloon' zoom.)
18. Tilt – 5 (I really love this film for it's unique atmosphere. Really fun.)
