    LTK
Long time no see. Really hoped I would find some love for Dalton's swan song, but this grim and grisley story featuring tasteless deaths and grim tortures still leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth.

I know Bonds are more violent now, but somehow LTK still feels over cooked when it comes to the violence. More so even than QOS.

But, the positives. Robert Davi is thoroughly convincing as a powerful drug baron, Carely Lowell is lovely when she evolves from Tom boy to statuesque beauty, there is a superb climax featuring tankers dancing and crashing down a winding mountainside road, and Benicio del Toro is suitably slimey as one of Sanchez's henchmen.

Very few decent lines and they all go to Davi.

I thought Glen was starting to develop a decent visual style, but there's little on show here.

    All in all a disappointment.

    Next up Tomorrow Never Dies.

I got sidetracked in my last attempt, and had only seen DN, FRWL and GF. Living in a city in this exhausting heat wave, it's almost suicidal to go outside for too long. So, perfect opportunity to re-start my Bondathon with DN, and carrying on 'till the end this time! I'll continue to follow Birdleson's instructions of taking note on the way each mission is handled, and the quality of the dialogue. I'll also keep a close eye on things that are new to me or that I'd forgotten to give fresh new reviews for the films!

    Hopeful to start it soon!

My problem with LTK is that it adopts a hardcore approach, but can't quite shake certain remnants of the Moore era. The Q scenes are particularly at odds with the overall tone. TLD suffers the same problems, but I think gets away with it because it doesn't go too far in the other direction at any point. QoS on the other hand is tonally consistent. Although being the complete hypocrite that I am I'd rather watch LTK over QoS. No Bond film should be 99% gloom.

The Spy Who Loved Me never was one of my favourite Bond movies, however I really enjoyed it this time. I see why it is generally regarded as the best Moore's Bond flick and why it is seen as an improvement compared to the silliness of TMWTGG, however I can't help but think that Stromberg is so unmemorable a villain and lackluster when compared to Scaramanga, just like his means.

    Ranking:
    01. OHMSS
    02. FRWL
    03. DN
    04. TMWTGG
    05. TSWLM
    06. GF
    07. TB
    08. LALD

Such a shame they couldn't use Blofeld, as intended.

Indeed, it would have improved the movie a lot.

As for myself, last night was FRWL. Still my favourite Bond film (and my favourite film, period, if I'm being honest with myself). I love the locations, love Tatiana Romanova, Sean Connery is even better as 007 here than he was in DN, and I love the humour too.

That scene when M, Moneypenny and what I assume are ministers listening to the recording of Bond and Tania's conversation about the Lektor, with Tania constantly cutting herself off to talk about the sex she had and will have again with Bond, cracks me up every time.

    1-FRWL
    2-DN

Yes, I plan on picking it up tomorrow. I had a family gathering the other day so my schedule got a bit shifted but it was a bit helpful in preventing burnout. I look forward to continuing. :)

I'm back in action with my Bondathon, I just finished THE SPY WHO LOVED ME. and it delivered. I always loved the film so it's no doubt that this viewing would anything less than stellar. My previous gripes with the film's soundtrack have lessened a bit though some of it has dated rather badly. Other than that, another fine entry into the Bond Canon. I shall now continue with another favorite of mine. Moonraker. Ranking it will be controversial but I had a great time. The show must go on.

    MURDOCK'S BONDATHON RANKING.

    Live and Let Die.

    You Only Live Twice.

Just finished MOONRAKER.I'm one of the few who really enjoy this film. While it's not really a Bond movie, It's an entertaining movie none the less. Nothing much else to say about it. Another fun entertaining film in the Bond canon.

An awesome conclusion to the Spectre saga is YOLT. Daft as a box of frogs, but the iconography saves it.

As I stated for YOLT, It was just a chore for me to sit through in my latest viewing. After watching Connery's first four films in a row which where high energy, YOLT just slumped along. It just didn't do it for me this viewing. As my ranking is based on my entertainment factor. Not necessarily quality of film. I like YOLT as much as the next guy but It just wasn't happening for me this particular viewing. I do love the Soundtrack and Ken Adam's set design work. Oh and of course Aki. It's a shame they killed her off. Anyway, I shall be continuing on with FYEO soon, stay tuned. :)

Watched GF this evening. Still tons of fun. The only thing holding back is Bond's passiveness once he reaches Kentucky and the way he coverts Pussy to the side of good. I honestly hadn't watched GF in maybe 4 years (which an effing long time now that I think of it) and tonight that barn scene felt kind of...rapey.

But, apart from those quibbles I love it. That first hour, from the gun barrel sequence to the moment the plane lands down in Kentucky, is truly golden. Love the Fort Knox climax too.

YOLT is the ONLY film I sometimes LOVE, and other times DISLIKE. It all boils down to how much I'm into Aki at the time. I dislike her death either way, but when I REALLY dislike her death, it kinda ruins the viewing for me. If that makes sense...

I must start a 'Friends Of YOLT' thread where we can meet secretly and declare love for the franchise's most iconic and sexiful piece of entertainment.

Could the reason for the polarising opinions of YOLT simply be due to AP parodying it to death? Hence it seems even sillier than it was originally.

I think it was an opinion divider before Mike Myers came along. Or The Simpsons or anyone else who had a gentle dig.

This was the film that went furthest off the track in the 60s and acted as a blueprint for the 70s films.

I understand the opinions of this film and why people don't like it - I just think we have to remember that the film series and the Fleming books are two different animals and should be viewed as such. YOLT represents what Bond movies are really all about, which is why it's so fondly remembered and parodied mercilessly as a result.

My brand-new Moonraker DVD stopped working half-way through the movie, so after writing an email to the shop where I bought it, I watched the following scene in streaming, only to switch it back to the DVD when internet stopped working too.

Anyway, despite its silliness, Moonraker is really entertaining a movie, and the only part that made me cringe was the "Star Wars"-like laser battle. I'm looking forward to watching For Your Eyes Only, a favourite of mine.

I suppose YOLT is like a James Cameron film to some. Truly impressive cinematic spectacle but often somewhat "hollow" in terms of it's character development supporting characters.
