Slate was only a geologist, and bond did take out a us swat team and 4 other mi6 agents while handcuffed in an elevator. I'm really happy with the action sequences in qos, it just took bond too long to beat Greene.

The geologist was dumped in the sea. Slate was an assassin.

I'll take Bond simply kicking everyone's ass in QoS over Bond being inept and having his ass handed to him throughout most of SF.

Of course everyone has a different view on that. I simply find that I usually enjoy Bond films more than other casual action films because the Bond villains do have more personality and are memorable because of that. Not all villains must be physically strong but they should at least have something that makes us believe that he is a menacing person (some kind of weapon or henchman or at least charisma). Green had none of these qualities. I had always the impression that the writers and / or Forster thought: " Don't care about these villains, it is all about Bond".

He was supposed to kill camille but he was supposed to be a geologist, hence why when camille mistakes bond for slate she says "I didn't think geologists looked so....."
Also slate had to in some way resemble bond or camille would never have picked him up.

Too long? An exhausted Bond going against a psycho who is wielding melee weapons and fire axes, I'd say that fight was pretty even, with a perfect running time.

I know but look at Greene, he's a tiny little odious man, played so well at being so slimey, I just wanted bond to really slap him about. I don't dislike the fight scene but I felt myself thinking come on 007 just finish him.

Do you think Camille knew what Slate looked like? Camille is certainly confident when she picks up Bond that he is the right man.

Geologist was dead in the water. Slate was an assassin hired by Greene to kill Camille.
Obviously Bond killed Slate and took his place.

The briefcase had photos of Camille and a gun.

    Pretty easy to understand honestly.

I am assuming Camille had phone calls with the geologist and Greene knew ,
Had him killed and replaced with Slate.

That's what is great about it: physically, Greene isn't threatening in the slightest, but give a psycho a fire axe in an enclosed space and let him ambush Bond, and you've got a pretty even-keeled fight on your hands.

She must have had some idea of slates appearance, Bond is wearing slates jacket, carrying slates briefcase, and coming out of slates hotel, they are also both white, fair-ish hair, similar height etc. Also let's not forget camille is a secret service agent, so if green had hired a hinx type hitman camille would have never let him in the car as it would have been obvious he wasn't a geologist.

Yeah bond also gets the worst of the explosions which helps Greene out, one things for sure though. If your going to swing an axe about, don't wear gucci loafers.

Also proof that a master Villain really needs a decent Henchman ;)

I don't see anything wrong with having somewhat of a weak villain and some badass henchman or assassins.

I think Greene was super menacing.
I loved him, he was pretty scary.

He was very unlikeable and obviously nuts, a great villain and overlooked IMHO. Elvis was a rubbish henchman but was supposed to be hapless, great fun.

I watched DAD last night. Good pre-title sequence. BUT, with regards to the rest of the film the 'slow mo' cinematics have no place in a Bond film and also the CGI sequences look fake and out of place.

Whereas Dalton's films reaffirmed the classic Bond principles and brought the series back to it's dramatic and literary roots, Die Another Dies goes the other way and represents the slump of the Pervis/Wade era of Brosnan Bonds. This sees the action and budgets scale upward, while the substance conversely dips (and with the arrival of an invisible car, evaporate!).

Brosnan is ok as 007, but why didn't someone tell him that his 'running style' is laughable!

Thank god for Daniel Craig and the near perfect Casino Royale.

Like many, I was really happy with old Pierce as 007, until Daniel came along ;)

I was happy enough with old Pierce as 007, until DAD came along.

I forgot to mention that Jinx is possibly the worst Bond girl. Her character traits aren't the least bit sexy, she is almost masculine (including her hair cut). Miranda Frost is far more sexy and 'Bond girlesque'.

I see that's the general consensus in the fandom, but to be honest I never really had a problem with Jinx ("Yo Mama" aside).

For me, It's Berry's acting. She's just bad :( she's up there with Denise Richards.

I find Jinx terribly smug. She always tilts her head to the side and smirks as if she's wanting to act cool.

I don't blame her fully, since she's demonstrated her acting abilities before. Poor direction and shitty material is a large part of why her character is considered an "abomination". Both her and Toby Stephens were completely wasted. Pierce, Rosamund Pike, and Kenneth Tsang gave the best performances in DAD.

Actually in the entire Brosnan era they wanted to present us tough and physically strong Bond girls who are more like a samrt equal to Bond. I think it worked ok in GE and TND but completely failed in TWINE and DAD.

I have a feeling like DAF, the actors may have been told to play it "light". Shows
What can happen, with a director who doesn't respect the lineage or history of
    The series.

The first third of my Bondathon that happened in February and March this year in this order:

    Spectre (Top 10 movie)
    Diamonds Are Forever (best guilty-pleasure)
The Living Daylights (Top 10 movie)
A View To A Kill (fun, but not much more)
You Only Live Twice (classic but not as good as Connery's first four)
The Spy Who Loved Me (Top 10 movie)
Quantum Of Solace (considerably better than its reputation)
Tomorrow Never Dies (pure fun and Brosnan's second best)

finally it's time for the second third, it's random but I try to have a good mix. Obviously that means 2 or 3 of the 8 movies have to be Moore's. So I'll start with one of his.

Any suggestions? AVTAK + TSWLM I have already done as you see above.

I just checked and the O and S aren't anywhere near each other on a QWERTY keyboard, so the obvious typo can't explain it.
